The sequel trilogy was poorly planned and executed even worse, my guy. Could have been the greatest story in the franchise. Instead, it falls behind even the sequels. I'm just talking about the story, put your gun away Solo. The prequels were awful of course but the narrative was better than the sequel trilogy.

The sequels and prequels are opposite one another. One weird and camp with a decent narrative, the other well directed and visually stunning but with the consistency of a runny egg.

And then, right in the middle, is the original trilogy. Just the right blend of each. A delicious fucking omelet.

That's how Monster Hunter has always been kinda where they thrust you into the world. The first 3 monsters are super easy. Barroth I believe is the 4th monster that will give you that "WOW THAT WAS CHALLENGING AND FUN!". And then Anjo is when shit hits the fan and gets worst from there.
