We've not had Mario really beat Smash in over twenty years. This could break the mold, but Mario needs to shoot his shot.

Well, this is his chance. Odyssey had the benefit of being a very early Switch game, had that fantastic trailer, and was very well-received. It could be the Breath of the Wild vs. Twilight Princess equivalent of compared to Galaxy, which would give it a shot.

Really if we want the closest thing we have to 'Link is actually maybe vulnerable' it was Mario vs. Bowser holding up way better than they ever have against Link vs. Ganondorf, in what was basically a Series Contest matchup. Things had only been downhill for Zelda since then.

...Until Breath of the Wild happened, and Breath of the Wild 2 is on the horizon.

I mean during the Wii U era we got...one contest with games or characters that didn't boil down to rallies. The difference is that before 2018 Nintendo recovered with the Switch while FF continued its descent.

I maintain that The Witcher II is the biggest snub of the contest.

The thing with Chrono though is that its two games. Is Chrono Cross stronger than Xenoblade 2? Maybe. Is it stronger than the combined strength of 2 and X? No. I would like series to mean 3+ this time honestly.

The only interesting thing about a series contest would be Smash vs. Pokemon, imho. We saw last time that Final Fantasy boils down to 'FFVII', and that probably hasn't changed.

I would take Smash > FF long before I would take FF > Mario. The last 15 years have been terrible for FF.

I'm convinced FE3H > FEA because Console > Handheld.

DKC2 beat FEA 52-48, which is a narrow gap to make up, especially for a game like FE3H that put 46% on RE2 back in January.

Would you trust DKC2 to score higher than 46% on RE2?

In a year where Mega Man X is worth 45% on FFX and SMRPG is stronger than the entire MGS and RE series, I'd easily take DKC2 to put 46% on RE2.

I never bought the XC = DKC2 > FE3H argument (especially considering how DKC2 got ravaged by SotN in '15), but it appears that XCX, XC2, and XC1 Definitive have boosted Xenoblade.

Byleth had the worst spot ever for the reveal.

The biggest anti-Smash joke is 'SO MANY FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS', and then the final character of a DLC set of fantastic third party characters, one that most people had already paid for. Could it be Dante? Doomguy? Master Chief? Hopefully not Minecraft Steve, at least...

...And it was the biggest, worst joke of a character possible.
