Oof, that was a little bit flat at the end, but it was a nice look at the dynamics going on. I was wholeheartedly rooting both Natalie and Yul on to come back, but I'm so happy it was Tyson edging out Rob to come back in. Also, great deal.of Sophie makes me happy.

The editors love the funny 115. The target shifting one by one narrative, starting with Nick and a brief montage of him showing up in the middle of conversations, before switch8ng talk to Adam.

Then five minutes later with talk on Wendell, there's Unexpected Nick interrupting conversation and walking off and my ass is laughed off

Just starting Vesperia, and I'm wondering before I get too much farther in...

Are there any achievements/titles in this game, or frankly any other Tales, that are like Colette's Dog Lover title or Genis' "Don't use Gels until this point in the game" kind of titles? Where you don't really know to be aware of them the first or even second time playing, and that csn be easily failed before you even realize failure was an option?

Just curious if I should keep an eye out on who to lead parties when talking to people. Zesty and Berseria didn't seem to have anything like that (though I could be wrong).

Yeah, on Redemption Island, they weren't clambering up a mountain for a scoop of rice.

And Yul is the last old school Survivor out. He is the All-Stars Ethan Zohn of Winners at War, the last of his kind before the game goes to hell.

I'm still enjoying the game. Sophie is love, Sarah is life. Tony's fun. Michele's been amazing. But... yeah, now that MY guy is gone... I'm not really... looking forward to who's left? Like, the double elimination last week kind of masked it, and with the big HvV personalities of Rob/Parv/Sandra now gone, ...yeah. This final 11 is rough. Sophie and Denise are great, no doubt, but the rest...

Kim's got a One World edit, as in Kim's got the edit of nearly every other player on her season where she just comes out of nowhere with plot stuff after being in the background the rest of the game.

Adam feels like a really depressing, whiny James Miller.

Jeremy's from my town, but he is such a non-factor it's disappointing. Natalie, who got voted out in the first episode, has had more character development and stronger presence than Jeremy.

Ben's faded into the background after being a weird source of chaos the first few episodes.

The less said about Wendell, the better. Wow.

...Sarah, Tony, Denise, Sophie, Michele... there's 11 left right? Who the hell am I missing?

It literally took me two minutes since typing that to remember Nick was even in the game.

My only quibble, and it's a dumb nitpick that I'm also kind of glad is removed, is the lack of random chests.

I feel like I already started to build my character all wrong because back in the day, I'd pump my luck hard into Hawkeye so he could be designated chest opener and best avoid the bad luck wheel spots. There doesn't seem to be a reason to pump up my Luck in this one yet since it just adds to item drop chances. I don't really care about the items, and I don't need Luck to grind them out if there aren't any reaper/moogle/poison traps to avoid.

I am curious about the later stats though. It's cool that each character gets their own trees for each stat where, for example, Hawk got a badge at 4 Luck for +5% Item Drop that can be equipped to anyone while Kevin has something at 4 Str that can be shared. And if it stops at 6, that's probably how far it goes before Class... Change...

Oh Mana Goddess... The class changes will open up branches for each STAT. I'm gonna do so much replaying!

Hahaha, yeah, I definitely stopped caring at all about the story once Rose became a fixture. Pre-Rose, the story was flowing fairly well, there was great concern over the malevolence and its effects on the party, and honestly it was getting super depressing at every turn. I can understand her inclusion as an attempted shot of hope and energy, but it was pretty storybreakingly silly. There were a good number of moments where her actions broke my brain not just because of what she did and how cheerily she did them, but the sudden lack of consequences and the muted reactions of the cast. Like, probably after the first or second twon with her, I just completely gave up on the story making sense, and you know what? I'm okay with that

I definitely enjoyed using her in combat (but everyone in Zestiria was surprisingly fun in combat) and right around the time she joins, everything else about the game loses momentum too. I still somehow like her, but I completely agree with her placement at the very bottom because she is the most perfect demon girl who is super pure and has her own guardian watching out for her always and is the best and most noble murderer.

But damn Zestiria combat was hella fun

Does this get better than the beginning? I tried it like twice but found the start too unfunny to continue.

It is definitely early-Youtube era comedy at the beginning, but starts picking up in quality with the arrival of Nappa. Lots of meme and silliness and quotes that is just super playful with the material.

Frieza saga definitely begins to pick up in quality and storytelling while still retaining the humor and adding some more wonderful comedy, continuity, and callbacks. I will forever love Goku's and Piccolo's exchange before charging up the spirit bomb. It definitely comes into more of its own.

Then the Future Trunks and Android sagas are sublime, and Imperfect Cell is horrifyingly good, and the Perfect Cell saga... I mean, it might actually be better than the original material.

Now that I write that out... DBZA is actually a lot like Dragonball.

Emperor Pilaf Saga is the early episodes where there are gags galore and it was excellent at the time, but feels super antiquated with what comes later.

The Tournament Saga is the latter half of the Saiyan Saga where different things start to take focus, characters get a bit more personality and depth, and we have some hilarious fights before ending in the epic brawl between Goku and Roshi/Vegeta.

The Red Ribbon Army Sagas are all different aspects of Namek/Frieza sagas with different villains popping up only to be thwarted, new and interesting characters getting a moment or two to shine before never existing again, a long adventure questing for the Dragonballs, and the hilariously (and terrifying) over-the-top badassery of Mercenary Tao/Frieza. It's still hilarious but has a lot of dark moments.

Fortuneteller Baba Saga was originally the Ginyu Force, but feels appropriate for Future Trunks as kind of fun but kind of forgettable and very comical break after the intensity of the last saga.

Tien Shinhan Saga is tough. It definitely feels like the Android saga with some really great character work and great fights, but also kind of meanders a bit and gets overshadowed by...

King Piccolo, where **** gets horrifyingly real with quite the mood whiplash right at the start. Mr Sandman is Krillin's death. It is just dark and action packed and story-driven and amazing.

And Cell Games is Piccolo Jr. Saga with one of the greatest fights in dragonball history, where the drama and action have overtaken the gag comedy, where the characters have grown so much over the last eleven years that they're fully formed and not just complete jokes (except for Yamcha. And Raditz.) And it's just so damn good.

I feel like my grasp on my opinions twenty years ago are stronger and fresher in my mind than my opinions today. Everything blurs together nowadays, but I remember coming here for Harvest Moon 64 recipes and Pokemon questions, and remember a great deal of what games I had and what interested me most. Also, first off, I just want to say how great that run with Brock Lesnar was. They made a 'one man eliminates everyone as they come in' story WORK.

#2. Elias - He pokes fun. He knows he's going in the ring with Brock, he's the sacrificial lamb, he jokes around and pisses the beast off, and gets a big splintering guitar shot and an easy, but memorable first elimination.

#3. Erick Rowan - Okay, we might get what's in the cage stuff. That'd be dumb, but okay. Nope, big man goes in, big man goes out. Fodder #2.

#4. Robert Roode - Okay, they're feeding the Beast. I got it. Roode could maybe put up a fight, but no. Goodbye.

#5. John Morrison - Alright, he came back early, so he might stick around for a bit! Do some parkour and keep himself alive, especially since he's freshly back! Oh, wow. I didn't expect him to go THAT fast. Anything really can happen.
