Because our country needs more people like him and the fact he has inspired millions does matter. It has already changed the discourse on a lot of topics. I think he sped up America's move back towards the left 50 years tbh

I mean, this is also a very good point and I don't disagree! He has absolutely moved the Democratic party left fairly significantly within a relatively short span.

I'm just still grumpy because I feel like this was within his grasp if he could've been even slightly more strategic politically. But you might be right and that could've cost him in other ways, so who knows.

(I actually thought Warren was a pretty good mixture of good policy and political acumen but she got thwomped so obviously what the hell do I even know in the first place)

Like...she is far and away my least favorite choice for VP. She has no national profile, her highest office held was in the Georgia house, and she just lost her first big swing at an important political seat. There would be like...15-20 women I'd be significantly more excited for and would add more to the ticket.

But I wouldn't say I hate her. Why "hate"?

If Sanders had been more successful making some sort of deal with Buttigieg/Klobuchar/Harris/anyone prior to Super Tuesday, he might've won this whole thing. I know it is a dirty part of politics, but these sorts of dealings happen all the time. Trump was smart enough to partner up with people like Christie so he wasn't doing this whole thing by himself. And once Sanders had won the first three states, the smart move (politically) would be to pivot towards the center. Lie a bit. Exaggerate about how moderate he could be. He had the left lane sewn up. He was the furthest left candidate by far, particularly after it was clear Warren was toast. Any move towards the center, true or not, would've picked him up more votes.

But he has "convictions" and "principles" and all these things that make it hard to be a politician in America.

It wound up being a lonely campaign for him. Part if this in on the DNC. But part of this is because Sanders is one of the few earnest politicians and his brand of politics will make him lonely regardless of what outside forces are doing. So I think he was a very good candidate (for people that like him). But sort of a lousy politician.

Literally every poll ever taken has shown that Biden supporters were significantly more likely to vote for Sanders than Sanders supporters were likely to vote for Biden. Usually by margins of 10%+.

Which is why Sanders made more sense as the democratic nominee but hey what do I know >_>

Honestly I think they should mandate working from home where possible always for jobs that can do it. It's good for traffic, the environment, natural distancing, workplace harassment, less time sink on workers, etc.

I think people that can work from home should, and maybe keep online learning the norm through the summer. Kids are gross and will spread this like crazy.

Beyond that open things up and encourage common sense after the end of the month imo. Id suggest wearing masks if possible to really limit this, but I think thats hard to enforce with the current shortage.

How do the NYC cops (and people in general) feel about De Blasio's response to this (and Cuomo's and Trump's too, I suppose)? I have a couple of friends in NYC, and their general opinion seems to be that de Blasio has done a terrible job but I don't know how generalized that is.

It's the second time it was scaled back. It was over 100k 2 weeks ago.

And, optimism is welcome. Just trying to say let's hope but also remember weekend numbers may not paint the whole picture. We will see soon enough.

The death rate does look to be around 0.6-0.9, in line with that paper released a week or so ago. It helps that the federal government did the right thing and extended suggested social distancing until the end of the month, and a lot of the big state governors were fairly proactive on this.

If we could just get Trump to lean a bit harder into this to get some of the most stubborn republicans on board...

I have a feeling this pandemic is gonna end my relationship. Every single day is another argument about her going out and doing things. I don't see it lasting.

Yesterday was a birthday party. Day before was going around shopping for a birthday present. Day before was a fire at her sisters. Today is shooting airsoft guns at her mother's.

I dunno how people can't grasp things

I have family members that I think believe I am some sort of radical liberal conspiracy theorist because I've told them multiple times to stay inside and their responses are increasingly of the type of "you are a drooling moron". I don't even know what to say anymore that is helpful at this point.

Ive only done pick-up once since this all started and I instinctively didnt tip, but felt bad afterward like maybe I should have. I feel like the people working these places now deserve it as hazard pay.

Thats why Ive done it since the shut down started! They arent getting paid nearly enough for working when everyone else is forced inside. Ive been tipping drivers more than I used to as well.

Before though, I would:
1) Put the order through online
2) Drive to the place
3) Carry the food out myself

All theyd do is bring the food from the waiting area to the counter. I dont know why Id tip for that!

I never tip for pickup unless I personally am friends with who the tip is going to. You should always tip at least $5 for a delivery driver tho.

I've started tipping for pick up specifically for this crisis, but I never did before either. No clue why when I'm driving out and am not being served in any way.

But yeah always tip a good chunk for delivery, especially now.

Sort of. Roughly 1 out of 2 people that need ventilators recover and live through the experience. However, they NEED the ventilators to survive. If the hospitals get overwhelmed and don't have enough ventilators, then suddenly we need to start rationing care and the potential fatality rate will increase up to two fold. That is just for ventilators. What if hospitals start running out of sick beds? Suddenly people who need treatment for other stuff will receive a worse standard of care, leading to worse outcomes, etc.

It is very important not to get everyone sick at once. Also, it will start to build up herd immunity which will dampen the spread in the future.

I get Harris not being your favorite, but I have a tough time understanding someone that prefers Biden over Harris in the first place. I'd take Harris in a heartbeat.

But yeah I agree with Tony that Abrams is far and away the worst of that group of three. I see 538's arguments, but she hasn't held any major office and I don't think she would have any pull, at all. There are no kryptonite picks for me out of anyone he could reasonably pick, but Abrams is the one that I feel like would be the one that confuses me the most.
