No, the reviewers are just garbage at the game and expected it be something new when it was pretty explicitly just a remaster of the original. They're literally upset that the game is the same as the old version, but with better visuals.

Just look at 27 seconds into your second video. He literally complains "the attack moves you forward, so you move off the button and close the gate." So fucking stand further back when you start the attack? He literally does the exact same thing 5 times and gets upset that he keeps getting the same result. It's not exactly rocket science here.

Option 2. Your good friends - customers probably won't even notice you are missing.

Lots of them definitely will. I don't think that just because many customers have explicitly told me that I'm the reason they come here. Once or twice I've had car troubles and had to put my normal car in the shop for a few days and drive a loaner car. I wouldn't see a bunch of the regulars during that time. They'd come back and immediately ask where I'd been, and when I explained that I'd been here like always they'd say they didn't see my car in the lot so they went somewhere else. That conversation has actually happened several times, so I have no doubt they'd find another place to go if I told them what was happening.

Right now $12/hr normal rate (but everyone got a $2/hr bonus working during the Corona lockdown, so it's actually been $14/hr for a bit). It's obviously not great, but it covers my bills with enough extra to be comfortable, and the job really is incredibly easy. I'm in northeast Ohio.

Your decision should just be about what is going to be best for you, short or long term.

Yeah, I'm probably just gonna work the rest of the week. The extra overtime pay isn't huge, but every little bit counts. And it's not like it's an overly complicated or stressful job. I get to spend half the shift on the internet or gaming, after all. Which is pretty much just what I'd be doing if I was at home. I can't file for unemployment until I've actually lost the job next week anyway, and I've already started getting my resume together and looking to apply for other jobs. I might as well get paid in full for it.

I posted about a month ago about how the owner of the gas station I work night shift at has decided to retire and sold the place to corporate.

I've been working 6 nights a week for over 3 years. Corporate has decided not to let me stay on. My best guess as to why? They probably don't want to have to keep paying my current rate as I've gotten a few raises over the years and they'd probably rather just find some random idiot they can pay minimum wage to. Fuck corporate. And fuck this station, tbh.

I have 2 options at this point.
  1. I can keep working the rest of the week like normal. I'd probably spend it telling all of my regular customers to stop coming here because corporate doesn't deserve their business.
  2. I have enough vacation days to cover the rest of my time here. I could potentially just take them all, effectively "quitting" right now while still being able to claim unemployment afterwards. Of course, then I wouldn't get to say goodbye to a bunch of my customers that I genuinely would consider friends at this point. And I wouldn't get that little extra in overtime pay on my last paycheck.
I'm not going into a ton of detail right now because frankly I'm pretty pissed off. Not just at corporate, because they're a bunch of greedy scumbags just as you'd expect so it's not the least bit surprising. But also at my boss, who claimed he always had his employees' backs and told me to my face just last week that he had gotten some assurances that anybody who wanted to stay on would be able to. Clearly that was a blatant lie, and I'm not the only employee I know of who is getting let go despite wanting to stay. I don't begrudge somebody wanting to retire. Just don't bullshit me and tell me I'm gonna be fine when you know damn well most of us are going to get fucked over.

Used to be Old Spice. I can't wear deodorant anymore, though.

I've got psoriasis on my scalp and armpits. It's always on my scalp and there's basically nothing I can do about that (tried several prescriptions without any changes whatsoever). Thankfully, it only flares up in my armpits if they get irritated, whether from excessive sweating, tight shirts like Under Armor that rub a lot in the pit, or using any kind of deodorant. I've tried everything you can think of, too. Gels, dry rub on, spray, "sensitive skin" formulas, you name it. Within just a couple hours I've got rashes that itch like you wouldn't believe. And due to the location, I can't help but aggravate it every time I move my arms, so it just gets progressively worse and usually takes a couple of days to go away after I've washed the deodorant off.

Shit sucks, man. Thankfully I don't really have a very strong natural odor, so as long as I shower regularly it's not a huge issue.

Prediction: Earth-like planets with complex life are common as dirt. Eventually, civilizations emerge and become advanced enough to interpret the radio bursts. The message is simple: keep your head down, or you're dead. Species that attempt to become multiplanetary, develop Dyson spheres, etc., are wiped out before they become a threat to galactic stability.

So the Dark Forest theory?

I don't buy it. It really only works if species are somehow excluded entirely from going to and colonizing other star systems. But if you're able to kill another star system, which is kind of a fundamental part of the theory, then you've got the technology to spread to other star systems.

Once you can spread to other systems, you are no longer at risk of being easily wiped out by a single attack. And if you're not at risk of being easily wiped out, you'd be more likely to take the chance of introducing yourself to another species. It just doesn't seem to fit with some pretty basic evolutionary principles. After all, we actually have dark forests here on Earth, and they're full of animals announcing themselves to each other despite the likely presence of predators.

Distance plus age of the Universe means that even if the Universe was littered with intelligent life, we'd almost never interact.

This is talking about a dwarf galaxy 3 billion light years away. Between the Milky Way and Andromeda, we're dealing with about 1.5 trillion stars. Even if there was tons of intelligent between these two galaxies, it takes too much time to travel in between stars in the Milky Way, let alone the 2.5 million years to Andromeda.

This isn't exactly accurate. I mean, it certainly wouldn't happen overnight. But a single civilization could hypothetically colonize a significant portion of its home galaxy within a matter of millions of years. Compared to the age of the universe, that's the blink of an eye. And the effects of the colonization would more than likely be visible to an outside observer long before that.

https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/294051-scientists-simulate-human-colonization-of-the-milky-way
"JPL found that it took around 90 million years for the teams to occupy large swaths of the Milky Way."

My personal belief when it comes to the Fermi Paradox is the simplest solution. I think we might just be the first. I also think we probably won't be the last.

I just flatly don't judge people by their profession. Just like every other job in the world, there are good ones and bad ones.

I judge people based on their actions, not their uniform. Since I work night shift at just about the only store that's open 24/7 in my area, I see all the local cops stopping in for coffee and snacks just about every night. I've had several conversations with them all about what's been going on, and every single one of them has agreed that what that shitbag Chauvin did to George Floyd was disgusting and inexcusable.

I also know that they're scared shitless by the protests going on. There was one in our area last weekend, and one of the officers that stopped in the night before told me he was just glad it was his day off, and that he would be turning off his phone so they couldn't call him in because he didn't want to be anywhere near there if things went south. Said he didn't want to end up in a situation where he'd have to choose between ending up in the hospital or hurting the protesters he agreed with. :-/
