Just because you disagree with something someone is saying, doesn't mean you're allowed to block me from informing myself on what said person is saying.

This is true for either political party.

I have every right to view any event or speech of my choosing in order to help make an informed decision with my vote. If you block my access to said desire for information, you are, by definition, a Fascist.

For those unaware, basically people are halting all social media presences and only posting big black squares to show solidarity for the day.

I understand the point and the message and the motivation, but on the flip side, social media is singlehandedly responsible for raising awareness to Floyd's death in the first place. Not to mention also being a source of sharing the massive amounts of unwarranted attacks taking place during these riots (Louisville bar owner, Omaha store owner, etc.)

Does that make sense? Removing the platform that raises awareness to all these travesties seems to defeat the purpose of the message.

So the public complaint is available now. No clue where to find it but details should be available soon. According to someone calling in who found it:

"the hennepin county medical examiner conducted the autopsy on 5/26"

Preliminary findings: "no physical findings that support traumatic asphyxiation to support a diagnosis of traumatic strangulation or asphyxiation"

Floyd had 'underlying conditions of "coronary artery disease" and "hypertensive heart disease" and the combination of the police force on him likely contributed.'

The knee was on Floyd's neck for 8 mins and 46 seconds, and Floyd was unresponsive for I think 2 mins and 56 seconds is what they said.

I was transcribing so not everything is 100% garmmatically clean, but I tried to ensure all the buzzwords were correct.

So this is going to be bad. Chauvin's attorney is the one who got the Philando Castille cop free. It's legit possible Chauvin walks free too if the lawyer can pin it all on Floyd's underlying conditions.

Will try to find link to full report, should be easier to find soon.

SOURCE:

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/george-floyd-protest-updates-05-28-20/index.html

Floyd was "non-responsive" for nearly 3 minutes before officer took knee off his neck, complaint says

The combined effect of George Floyd being restrained by the police, along with his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system, "likely contributed to his death," according to the criminal complaint for former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin.

Floyd had underlying health conditions, including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease, the complaint said, citing a preliminary autopsy conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

Chauvin had his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total, and 2 minutes and 53 seconds after Floyd was unresponsive, the complaint said.

The complaint noted that police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a "prone position is inherently dangerous."

Floyd's autopsy also found "no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation."

The autopsy was included in the criminal complaint released by the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in the arrest of Chauvin.

Chauvin has been charged withthird-degree murder and manslaughter, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/05/13/senate-browsing-histories-fisa-254970

The Senate on Wednesday blocked a bipartisan effort to shield Americans internet browsing and search histories from warrantless surveillance.

Lawmakers voted 59-37 on an amendment by Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to a House-approved bill that would reauthorize domestic surveillance authorities. It was the first in a series of at least three amendment votes that senators agreed to in March.

The intelligence tools expired on March 15 after senators left town without renewing key sections of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, amid objections from privacy hawks who said the compromise bill didn't go far enough to safeguard Americans personal data and communications.

Wyden, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, noted in a floor speech that Americans are relying on the internet more than ever due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Don't those Americans deserve some measure of privacy?" he asked, arguing that without the amendment "it is open season on anybody's most personal information."

Senators were expected to vote later today on an amendment from Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), which aims to bolster legal protections for individuals targeted by federal surveillance.

On Thursday they will vote on an amendment from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) that would prohibit the FISA court from authorizing surveillance of a U.S. citizen. Then they will move onto final passage.

I have this fantasy where we start talking at the ballistic missile test after party. We exchange a few pleasantries. She asks what I do. I say I loved her on CNN. She laughs. I get my drink.

"Well, see ya," I say and walk away. I've got her attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with Kim Yo-Jong? She touches her neck as she watches me leave.

Later, as the night's dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, she finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette.

"Got a spare?" she asks.

"What's in it for me?" I say as I hand her one of my little white ladies. She smiles.

"Conversation with me, duh."

I laugh.

"What's so funny?" she protests.

"Nothing, nothing... It's just... don't you grow tired of the egos?"

"You get used to it," she says, lighting her cigarette and handing me back the lighter.

"What would you do if you weren't the Supreme Leader of the DPRK?" I ask.

"Teaching, I think."

"And if I was your student, what would I be learning?"

"Discipline," she says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject.

"Where are you from?"

"The Bahamas" I say.

"Oh wow. That's lovely."

"It's OK," I admit. "Not everything is to my liking."

"What could possibly be not to your liking in the Bahamas?" she inquires.

"I don't like sand," I tell her. "It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

So they don't pay taxes, but they qualify for government bailouts?

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/04/06/828462517/ another-break-from-the-past-government-will-help-churches-pay-pastor-salaries (lol 150 character limit)

In a development that could challenge the Constitution's prohibition of any law "respecting an establishment of religion," the federal government will soon provide money directly to U.S. churches to help them pay pastor salaries and utility bills.

A key part of the $2 trillion economic relief legislation enacted last month includes about $350 billion for the Small Business Administration (SBA) to extend loans to small businesses facing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus shutdown orders. Churches and other faith-based organizations are among the businesses that qualify for aid under the program, even if they have an exclusively religious orientation.

"Faith-based organizations are eligible to receive SBA loans regardless of whether they provide secular social services," the SBA said in a statement. "No otherwise eligible organization will be disqualified from receiving a loan because of the religious nature, religious identity, or religious speech of the organization."

Churches have been especially hard hit by shutdown orders, because many of them rely on weekly offerings that are no longer being collected.

"There is a portion of that revenue that just by virtue of people's habits and practices doesn't come back," Vice President Mike Pence reportedly said in a recent conference call with U.S. pastors. In introducing the new SBA program, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Pence and President Trump "made sure" that churches would be included in the program.

Under the Trump Administration, the federal government has already been providing funds directly to churches, synagogues, mosques, and other religious organizations. In 2018, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) changed its rules to make houses of worship eligible for disaster aid.

The new SBA program, however, takes federal funding of religious institutions significantly further. Under the new Paycheck Protection Program, businesses with fewer than 500 employees, including faith-based organizations, are eligible to receive loans of up to $10 million, with at least 75 percent of the money going to cover payroll costs. The loans are in large part forgivable, so churches and other houses of worship won't have to worry about paying all the money back.

Organizations that advocate for strict church-state separation are criticizing the program.

"The government cannot directly fund inherently religious activities," argues Alison Gil, legal and policy vice president of American Atheists. "It can't spend government tax dollars on prayer, on promoting religion, [or] proselytization. That directly contradicts the establishment clause of the First Amendment. This is the most drastic attack on church-state separation we have ever seen."

According to the First Amendment, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Advocates for government funding of religious institutions argue that denying them aid that is available to non-religious institutions amounts to discrimination, and the U.S. Supreme Court has recently declined to challenge such support.

"In the last 15 years, the Court has moved increasingly in a permissive direction," says John Inazu, who specializes in religion and law at the Washington University School of Law. "There's just an increased willingness by the Court to allow for direct funding of religious entities."

In prior years, the federal government has generally steered clear of such funding, although it has freed religious institutions from paying taxes and made donations to them tax-deductible.

Under existing SBA regulations, among the for-profit businesses declared ineligible for loans are those "principally engaged in teaching, instructing, counseling or indoctrinating religion or religious beliefs, whether in a religious or secular setting."

That rule, however, may soon be eliminated.

The SBA statement on the participation of faith-based organizations in the new loan program declares that some agency regulations "impermissibly exclude some religious entities. Because those regulations bar the participation of a class of potential recipients based solely on their religious status, SBA will decline to enforce those subsections and will propose amendments to conform those regulations to the Constitution."

TopicFormer FBI Official Andrew McCabe Won't Face Charges
BenRoethlisberg

https://www.npr.org/2020/02/14/806052193/former-fbi-official-andrew-mccabe-wont-face-charges

The Justice Department announced Friday that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe will not be charged following an allegation by the department's inspector general that he lied to investigators about a leak to the media.

In a letter to McCabe's attorneys, the department said that "based on the totality of the circumstances and all of the information known to the government at this time, we consider the matter closed."

The decision is not likely to sit well with President Trump.

Trump has repeatedly criticized McCabe online and in public remarks. McCabe has long been the target of Republican leaders who allege political bias within the FBI.

McCabe's wife ran for the state legislature in Virginia as a Democrat, prompting early attacks that he might be going easy on Hillary Clinton. Later, McCabe was fired after investigators concluded he lacked candor about an episode involving the release of information to a reporter.

He was relieved of duty in March, hours before he was set to retire.

McCabe always has maintained he has done nothing wrong and called himself the victim of political vengeance.

"At long last, justice has been done in this matter," McCabe's lawyers said on Friday.

"We said at the outset of the criminal investigation, almost two years ago, that if the facts and the law determined the result, no charges would be brought," they said in a statement. "We are pleased that Andrew McCabe and his family can go on with their lives without this cloud hanging over them."

The allegations against McCabe stemmed from a Justice Department Office of Inspector General's report, which found that McCabe "lacked candor" when he told investigators that he did not know who authorized an aide to talk to the Wall Street Journal about the FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation.

The Justice Department's decision not to pursue charges against McCabe comes a day after Attorney General William Barr publicly lashed out at Trump, saying his tweets "make it impossible for me to do my job."

McCabe has sued the Justice Department, alleging that his March 2018 firing by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions was politically motivated act of retribution by Trump and "unlawful."
