Not that hard when someone's bankrolling your accommodation. Plenty of people have moved in with friends and family for a while, worked really hard and then saved enough to start afresh. It's even easier for this couple since they are not that old and have no dependents.

They're 100% lazy, for all the reasons everyone has mentioned already. Helping all others is all good and nice, but you can absolutely hold down a full-time job and get financially independent and still volunteer with the homeless.

Those government handouts come from somewhere (i.e. other people's money), so I would prefer they go to the people who actually need the help and not to those who reject a God-sent opportunity to get their lives back on track in favor of 'gaming the system.' It would be good to tighten the system to prevent such abuses, but such attempts invariably punish those who are really suffering instead of those who are just taking advantage.

It really highlights how welfare can be a poverty trap. A homeless guy getting a home halves his assistance, and getting a job halves it again. So he can be homeless and survive off what the government gives him, or he can work really hard to drag himself out of that hole, but anything in between puts him in a worse position than if he just did nothing. So in his mind, doing nothing (or doing volunteer work which is functionally the same to the government as being jobless) is the best option because it pays the most.

It sounds like they're lazy and don't want to work that hard, not when they can get the same results by leeching off government benefits. So what they wanted was either to mooch off the millionaire in perpetuity, or to get a job right away that pays more than what the govt handouts do? Right after being homeless? Aren't both unrealistic?

(caveat: Haven't read/watched the article, the situation may be more nuanced than that)

My experience as a TA this semester

Flesh out every point with a concrete example. E.g. if you wrote "I believe I have built a real rapport with the students this semester," you can add, "For example, a student came to me with X problem and I was able to help them by doing Y." Or if you write about challenges, you can explain in more detail.

Writing about real life experience is the easiest thing ever.

If they can prove from past precedent that they routinely call the cops of anyone suspected of fraud, regardless of fraud, then they have a case. Otherwise they need to settle this before the story gets too big.

What's strange about this? This has been the official position of the church since it was founded. I'm glad to hear there are still churches in Europe that are bold enough to content for the faith.

As someone mentioned, getting the time and energy to cook those veggies and rice and beans isn't a given either, especially for struggling families working multiple jobs to put bread on the table.

Furthermore, wealthier families are more likely to know and care more about health and nutrition. You plonk some kale down in front of a section of the population and they might not even know it's food, much less what it can do for the body and why they should eat it.
