Earlier in the day, members of the Democratic groups leadership said they were not impressed with Mr. Trumps overtures, including the Super Bowl advertisement.

CNN analyst Van Jones said Tuesday night that the previous 24 hours were "a big wake-up call for Democrats," citing the Iowa caucuses "debacle" and a "strong" State of the Union address in which President Trump went "after black votes."
"I think the last 24 hours have been a big wake-up call for Democrats," Jones said. "The Iowa caucus was a debacle. And this was a very strong speech."
