basically Touhou + Irisu Syndrome (by the creator of Irisu Syndrome). You can only fire one shot at a time, so you need to shoot colored blocks so they collide with other blocks of the same color, creating a chain reaction that destroys enemies/bullets. You have to piece together the story and such by reading the character profiles etc. that unlock as you play.

There was a limited edition one for Spice and Wolf 1-17, and they released two Boogiepop omnibus volumes to cover 1-6 (since they licensed and translated those volumes a while back, but only released 4 of them since there wasn't a market at the time). Crest of the Stars got a hardcover of volumes 1-3, and Full Metal Panic 1-3 (and I guess there's going to be another one for both series eventually, I assume Banner of the Stars 1-3 and another for FMP 4-6). Also there's going to be a limited edition set for Invaders of the Rokujima 1-30 but it's probably too late to try to get a hold of one at this point.

You're going to have to buy individual volumes, which kinda sucks since they're pretty expensive for being relatively short in length and not being edited properly. I don't really feel it's too worth it to buy physical releases, unless they're on sale at rightstuf or they've got a buy 2 get 1 free sale at the bookstore in town and I can get other discounts on top of that.

(edit: I forgot that there's a box set for the monogatari season 1 and 2 novels)

I have been interested in Gundam overall, is G Gundam a good starting point once I feel like watching it?

yeah I'm not super big on gundam and only seen a few odds and ends but basically you have the Universal Century series going like this

original/0079 -> Zeta -> ZZ Gundam -> Char's Counterattack

There's movie versions of the original and Zeta. the movies covering the original series are often recommended if you can't stand the wacky dated 70s animation of the tv series, although the Zeta movies have a different ending than the tv show.

then you have a bunch of OVAs and movies and such that fit in various gaps around the timeline (0080, 0083, 08th MS Team, Unicorn, Origin, Hathaway's Flash, etc..) although there's some that aren't really canon or are alternate takes

after that, you get into late UC (F91, Victory) and post UC (X, Turn A, G-Reco) stuff, where there's less emphasis on continuity and such and are probably more able to be watched as standalone.

then you have alternate universes/timelines. Seed, 00, Iron Blood Orphans.

and then lastly you have Build Fighters series, which is more of a toy commercial for models where you have japanese kids building models from various series and having them fight in tournaments so the tone is a lot lighter. you could probably watch it without being familiar with other series, though there's a lot of references to them that you might not get.

yeah that's one of the bad things about super metroid (especially since it doesn't actually warn you like this game at least does), but at least in super metroid you can still go back as long as you don't save at the last save point.

Started up Moonlighter earlier today, though just finished one floor so far.

A note about Gato Roboto since I finished it a few months ago. If you care about getting 100% you'll need to do it before going past the point of no return. It clearly warns you beforehand, but I went past it thinking I just could avoid saving at the save points and go back to the last one if I chose to reload it. Nope, it autosaved past the point of no return anyway so I couldn't. And after beating the game, you can't do anything else meaningful on that save file not even going back to fight the final boss again.

I didn't really try to see if you could get around it by copying save files (if you're able to), since it was too late. *shrug*

Devil Dice
Intelligent Qube
Front Mission 3
Alundra
Brave Fencer Musashi
Tales of Eternia
King's Field series (if you like souls style games and don't mind it being first person and a bit clunky/janky)
Persona 2 Eternal Punishment

there's the arc the lad games, but I couldn't get through them all because 2 is pretty long and exhausting. I guess Dragon Quest/Warrior 7 would fall into the same boat for most people (and it also got remade). Koudelka is neat story/atmosphere wise but the combat is pure unadulterated garbage. Tales of Destiny doesn't really hold up as well as Eternia (which actually probably holds up better than many of the Tales games that followed it honestly) but isn't bad either.

I personally enjoy SaGa games, but wouldn't necessarily recommend them to others. Same goes for roguelike/dungeon crawlers like Torneko, Chocobo Dungeon 2, and Azure Dreams (which is actually kind of bad/incomplete, but is a bit charming).

Rhapsody is bad and not worth playing unless you're interested in seeing Nippon Ichi's older games.

Kind of want to say maybe Rising Zan just because the theme song is amazing and meme worthy, but I haven't actually played it enough to judge it. >_>

Chocobo Racing's ok I guess, though you would have to play through the story mode a lot to unlock all the characters and CTR's the better game anyway.

Tail Concerto is cute but easy and it generally feels like they were ripping off Mega Man Legends and other Laputa inspired stuff.

if you're into shmups there's some titles like R-type Delta and Einhander, but you're probably not so I don't know why I bothered mentioning it. >_>

Haven't tried the patches for Front Mission 2, SRW Alpha Gaiden, Persona 2 Innocent Sin (although there's the psp version), or Tear Ring Saga.

the thing about underwater ray romano is that it's basically just disc 1 of a two disc game so you probably need to get both of them (and possibly the remake of the first game when it comes out). also, it's a lot cheaper to just get both of them on the ps4 in the current sale than try to buy just one on the pc. like, half as much. so it's probably not a good idea to buy them at this time.

well beat the world 3 midboss in rabbids, probably just quit for the month since I wouldn't make it at this point anyway. I don't really mind the puzzles like other people do, other than trying to push them in a hurry is annoying since it's kind of inaccurate/sloppy. what bugs me more is having stages with multiple battle segments since it makes me feel like I'm making less progress (I kind of feel like I have trouble maintaining interest in strategy rpgs the longer they go on, due to battle times going up while the amount of progress the story makes in cutscenes go down, compared to early on where you have quick snappy battles with only a few

I did some more rayman legends though, did the first three and part of the fourth origin worlds, got over 400 teenies and finished the first two stages in the music world.

if you don't mind imports you could probably muddle through Hatena Satena or Guru Logic Champ without too much problem. Former is a picross but with minesweeper style clues and the latter you try to fill in marked squares but you only can fire in a straight line so you have to rotate the level around. Also Rhythm Tengoku is great, yes.

eh, the thing that kind of bugs me about the new rayman games I guess is collecting all the teenies and cups and junk. Like I don't really feel like there's a good "flow" to most of the levels that let you build up some momentum and feel like you're blazing through levels and improving skill wise because you have to stop every 30 seconds to find one or a bonus room behind some random bit of foreground (I hated that about DKCR too, what with all the bajillion puzzle pieces in each level and dandelions and crap and people complain about rare games being "collectathons" but stuff like that or rayman are just so much worse than they are about it argh). and I just don't really have much enthusiasm for going back to old levels for one or two teensies or because I didn't get enough lums.

now, I ended up enjoying playing the daily challenges more because they had more "flow" to them and I felt more of a sense of accomplishment from getting further in levels/less time and getting slowly better at playing the game from them. Though, deciding to make the trophy ranks percentage based on the number of players was a terrible idea, as was the last rank requiring such a high number of points from daily challenge trophies even if you got all the ones from story levels (also the diamond trophy trophy you would need for the platinum but I managed to get that one despite the top rankings being monopolized by untouchable players thank you glitches).

I guess I'm weird since I don't particularly care for the rayman reboots very much in terms of gameplay. tbh, I nominated it to get me motivated enough to try to finish it since I've been doing the daily challenges almost every day for almost 2 years yet not felt like doing the main story levels. Yes, I enjoy the horrible soul killing trophy grinding more than the main game. A freak, I know. >_>

Unless you're like some sort of god speedrunner you basically have no hope of getting a diamond trophy in a challenge unless you play on a day when the murphy challenge is glitched and you die automatically after a certain point because the runner doesn't jump. Then, everyone can get one (well, you have to pick one of the princesses instead of globox or whoever as the character running to drift a few fractions of a meter further distance). Ok it's probably not quite as bleak as if you're playing on the Vita version like I have been, since it's based on the number of players. Still pretty disheartening to see top scores being say 20 kilometers on distance challenges lol.

even if you hold down the run button, it's not enough to be fast enough, you have to use some tricks to get ahead. like, you have to run attack -> jump -> forward jump kick as much as possible to keep from losing momentum. you also probably need to get a boost at the start for a really good time but I never really bothered trying to figure out how to do that too.

Can I play the GOG games offline? Let's say they go out of business tomorrow, do I still have access to their platform?

yes, you'd still be able to play them or install them (if you keep a backup of the offline installer).

SMRPG beaten

In the past, I always used peach and bowser... this time around, I was wanting to play with Mallow and Geno the entire time for a change, but Geno just seemed too fragile and reviving is probably more efficient than healing so I went back. >_>

Ys 1 beaten

it was a lot more enjoyable this time around playing it on easy and not having to pull my hair out at the final boss >_>

now time to switch back to smrpg and sprint through bowser's castle and the factory.
