Hmm, I followed it mostly from 2008 - 2015, and it shows only about 4 months of that period it was in the top 250 (at least at those snapshots of the month).
It was definitely popping in out irregularly from 2008-2012. Though it should be noted in 2012, imdb drastically raised the amount of votes required to be on the list, so there was a 4 year period from 2012-2016 where it didn't have enough votes to be eligible, but then it returned when it had reached that number, and it seems to be a mainstay since.

No way it's been on for that long. Maybe five years if that. I used to track that list religiously and watch anything knew that came on.
I was close, 14 years.

The way this site works is it just does a single snapshot at the beginning of the month. So for films like this that usually sat in the 200-250 range, they would fall in and out of the top 250 on a daily basis due to tight score differences, so they wouldn't always make the snapshot. But you get the idea.

Come and See may legitimately be the most unnerving film I've ever seen. My criterion Blu Ray actually just came in yesterday, so hopefully that helps it garner some attention.
I mean, Come and See has been in the imdb top 250 for well over 15 years, and that list is about as simple as it gets for basic movie fans. I'd think that most people who consider themselves film fans (people who like cinema enough to look up things on their own and read movie sites) would know of it.

Not my taste, but based on imdb:

  1. Parasite - 8.6/10 (All time #22)
  2. Green Book - 8.2/10 (All time #129)
  3. 12 Years a Slave - 8.1/10 (All time #200)
  4. Spotlight - 8.1/10 (All time #224)
  5. The King's Speech - 8.0/10
  6. The Artist - 7.9/10
  7. Argo - 7.7/10
  8. Birdman - 7.7/10
  9. Moonlight - 7.4/10
  10. The Shape of Water - 7.3/10

It definitely looks like the Oscars have turned themselves around after that patch of dark years.

My takeaway from this topic is that only one person on this board has seen Marriage Story apparently.

Don't think it's the favorite if it didn't get nominated for editing
There has been 1 Best Picture winner in the past almost 40 years that wasn't nominated in Editing: Birdman.

I'm sure you'll notice the similarities between Birdman and 1917.
