I bought it in response to Tony's topic. It won't win any points for originality - at all - but I enjoyed my time with it. Replay value seems pretty high, and the makers are still adding patches for side content. I'd recommend it without hesitation at that price.

If you want a love letter to FFT (in, like, every way), you won't be able to do better than Fell Seal. Just don't expect any novelty.

I have wanted to rewatch in quarantine as well, but I can't imagine sitting through the setup of the Chimera Ant arc again. The payoff is the peak for the series, but damn does the pacing in that arc suffer at times.

"Scar" -Boss - Overall this is a nice quote. I think it is a bit on the nose, but it's still my clear favourite between these options

"Nudge" -Flemeth - Simple, understated, effective; the exact opposite of its tryhard and cringe-inducing opponent

"God" -Monika - At first I wasn't crazy about this, as it seems like something vaguely neckbeard-y, but overall I think this still works pretty well

"Speck" -SHODAN - Just better written in about every way, I think

I'm completely on the fence about buying this. I like XB2 well enough, but I cringed every time half the female cast was on the screen, or whenever any of the cast spoke.

I finally bit the bullet and watched it while knee-deep in Stardew Valley.

This might be a hot take, but the Requiem scene in the Yorknew arc is the best scene of the series, and perhaps the best scene in all of shoenen.

Sure, I agree with that, but I would challenge your assessment of angry FF7 fans on the internet as 'regular people'. Anywhere but GameFAQs, it seems clear to me that more people - not critics, just people who play games - liked the game than hated it.

And I say that as someone who almost hates it for the failings it does have as a remake/tribute to the original.

EDIT: To make it so my comments aren't completely off-topic, I have an MGS-related question. Obviously MGS5 has fallen hard, which seemed predictable at the start of the contest. If there is another games contest, how do each of the first 3 MGS hold up?

Fair enough - if the characters aren't resonating and the world doesn't have a particular appeal, the game's charms definitely won't take hold. I do think Zidane has the best characterization of a mainline FF hero, although it does take a long time to unfold (beginning at the end of disc 3 and culminating in the last few scenes of the epilogue).

I should say that each time I replay an FF game from FF4 to FFX, I tend to re-evaluate my ranking, as I love part of them all. They all do particular things very well and are probably worth playing (something that I'm not sure is true of the series since FFXIII)

The dislike of FF7R seems isolated to or exacerbated in certain angry corners of the internet like this one.

I have spent a lot of time thinking about whether I liked it or not. It's objectively a good, probably a great game, but fans of FF7 do have defensible reasons to be mad. That said, voices like that are amplified here and don't reflect the critical and commercial success of the game.

Chocobo Hot and Cold and the Friendly Monsters (I suppose this is more a sidequest than minigame - maybe I'm conflating my ideas here) are both absolutely amazing. I can appreciate that the rest - skipping rope, races, tetra master, frog-hunting, etc - could be very 'take it or leave it' to seasoned RPG fans.

FFIX is damn near perfect. The main cast, overall, has more satisfying character arcs than any other FF I can recall. In my view, it has a more interesting world than its contemporaries, the music is flawless, and the minigames are excellent (even if tetra master is a bit difficult to comprehend at first).

FFIX does character-based storytelling as well as any RPG I've played, all set against the backdrop of a more interesting world than we see in previous FF games. FFIX is aging the best of the series because the paths of Vivi, Zidane, Steiner, Garnet, and Freya (and to a lesser extent Eiko and Quina, but never Amarant) feel like they matter and feel relatable.

Just my opinion, but as someone who initially ignored FFIX when played through the series when they were new, it has quickly become my second favourite FF (behind only Tactics).

It's a popularity contest, and this site skews heavily towards Zelda and Nintendo in general.

I'm a big Mass Effect 2 fan (although I'd say Nier Automata and Spec Ops: The Line did storytelling better this decade), but even at its most popular, it isn't a match for the horde of Zelda fans here.

That's not it. I'm regularly annoyed by these types of complaints. At most, its exacerbating an issue that lots of well-adjusted people could reasonably have about the leak.

I agree, especially with the Reddit part. That site is obsessed with The Witcher. I would guess that getting more Reddit eyes on this contest will help TW3 disproportionately to other games.

Edit: I'm just being cheeky. I guessed the Witcher would get 64 based on a few points of shared interest. That was based exclusively on the fact that all the people I know in real life who played God of War got their start in gaming this generation on Skyrim and then Witcher 3. I doubt it makes a massive difference to the point where results get genuinely skewed.

Except the metacritic score for that was based on Blizzard not properly giving care to remake a game that so many people loved because it was great.

That's not what vindication means. No one now thinks "oh yeah Warcraft 3 is bad because reforged sucks, Ulti was right all along".
