If you turn this back a few decades, Tucker Carlson would be claiming that Mr. Rogers dipping his feet in the same pool as Officer Clemmons was indoctrinating children into accepting de-segregation.

There was a Hannity or Carlson segment, I cant tell the two apart from each other anymore, where one of their reporters went around a Japanese train station and claimed it was so clean because they were no immigrations. Amazing that segment ever got aired.

I totally lost interest in standard come Ikoria, mainly due to the companion controversy.

Doesn't help that all my friends are modern players, but they've lost interest in modern since the quarantine as they all favor paper over online. We're all EDH guys and gals now.

Which I don't mind, because anything I disliked in standard would probably be magnified in modern. I'd probably just make the cheapest modern mono red deck available just to have something to play in card shops with them, but with the quarantine and all...

Does it even have a remotely satisfactory conclusion? This was the series that was supposed to flesh out all the other timelines in Xenogears and from what I remember hearing it never actually tied into XG in any cohesive way beyond Easter Eggs.

It was never tied to Xenogears. Its all just fan service.

And Ill say skip it as a Xeno series fan.

The series is a train wreck of a story being split into three games alongside developmental trouble.

One of the Episode 1 trailers had a scene that wasnt actually seen until Episode 2 and the games has flash-forwards to scenes that never actually happen or happen quite differently in subsequent installments.

Nearly every sub-plot or side story is infinitely more interesting than the main story and the character concepts were wasted on said main story.

An ultimately unimportant yet very interesting character who dies halfway through Episode 1 is given more backstory and cutscene focus than most of the main task throughout the entire trilogy. Keep in mind that a playable character in all three games had his entire backstory relegated to a cell phone game.

Guess we shouldn't be surprised that they gave Sephiroth/Jenova a bigger role in Midgar. He literally makes no physical appearances until the Kalm flashback after you leave; Jenova escaping and killing President Shinra was entirely off-screen. And they needed a bigger set-piece boss fight to end on than Motorball, granted Motorball looked pretty freakin' rad from the trailer.

I wonder if they're going to alter how in the original game the Sephiroth you were following the entire game was just Jenova and Sephiroth was in the Lifestream at the Northern Crater the entire time.

I was handling it fine until today where I felt the anxiety kick back in.

Have a mandatory work conference tomorrow where Im probably getting laid off. Im fine economically and intended to give my two weeks around late April or early May but it still feels bad.

I was going to finish some schooling and get do some job-hunting for a real job but that idea is completely screwed now.

Im getting quite jealous of some of my friends who are white collar with jobs that can be done from home and are mostly unaffected.

On the bright side, this at least lights a fire under me to get a desk job once this is all over because Im really understanding the benefits now.

Another bright side is more video game time with friends since theyre mostly working from home and cant go anywhere else.

Bought my first deck for Magic on a whim after a friend sent me a Snap of his pauper commander deck coming in. Friends have been teaching me until Im shop-ready. Cant play now but at least that gives me something to look forward to.

  1. Many of my closest, long-time friends live in California and work in the film and service industry and hence have no incomes right now. The two that can work from home and are financially secure are still stuck sheltering-in-place.
  2. After a roller-coaster of emotions following two of my close friends getting married last year to wonderful women (Ive never felt so happy in my life or felt so anxious), Ive resolved to better myself by being more outgoing, being a better friend, and building a career where I planned to do some intensive job hunting once Ive finished some additional classes in late Spring...this virus fucks up both of them.
Ive tried to see my friends more and was having huge successes at that but now I feel guilty at having seen them last Sunday due to the virus and some of my other friends were shaming me for it.

At least my financial situation is fine and my savings are strong. My work is giving me at least the next week off and paying me 4 out of every 5 hours of it so that lessens my fear of getting sick and still making money.

I'm not sure it's all that arguable tbh.

It was a way more ambitious game and is also a way longer and more content-rich game despite also having way more cut content. Not to mention it's highly catered to the Japanese market with its episodic anime-style story and all sorts of anime and Japanese culture stuff.

Yeah, it's never gonna happen, but it's probably the #1 game on both the "needs a remake" list AND the "deserved a remake" list.

It would also indisputably get an M rating today which is different from Squares image and somewhat out of place for a JRPG, but then again Persona is extremely popular despite having an M rating.

Xenogears and Xenosaga really squeaked by the ESRB, granted Saga did require edits to keep the T rating.

Best game ever made.

So romantic. Really avoids the issue of most fictional couples just being in love all of a sudden and they never actually explain how it makes them feel, how they feel about the other person, or what they gain from being in a romance with the other person.

I read an interesting article about how the devs believed that the game was more slanted towards female players due to the emotional and romantic themes and this was the reason they decided to make the lead of Xenosaga a woman which was very rare back then, and still kinda is in JRPGs.

Shame it'll never get remade. It's arguably harder to adapt to modern video game standards than FF7, Square Enix won't invest money in a large scale remake that doesn't have Final Fantasy in its name, and I'm not sure if a single person who worked on it still works at Square Enix.

4 was a soap opera by today's standards. The only members without twists are Edge, Cecil, and Rosa.

4 is fair for its day. You have to realize that it was the first FF game to have a plot beyond "get crystals" and has actual characters with their own personalities and arcs rather than the blank slates you had in the first three. In 1 and 3 all your characters had zero dialogue or character. It was a pretty big deal for its time.

And I've always liked the idea of Aeons in FFX basically being dream magic.

Then weirdly at the very beginning of disc 3 he's like head over heels in love with her and talks about how he can't live without her. It's very jarring. I used to think the romance was pretty amazing (and still consider the ballroom dance to be one of the best scenes ever) but considering Rinoa was in love with Seifer initially for some odd reason, it kinda sours the relationship.

Love is a crazy thing. I knew somebody for nearly six years and one day realized that I loved her. Especially in Squalls case where his love epiphany happens when shes absent due to her coma.

Never understood the appeal of the game though it did have good, underlying ideas.

You outleveled everything so quickly, small enemies are almost never a threat, BBI is mostly the same enemies with boosted stats, extremely underbaked over world, game is extremely biased towards the rogue classes as large enemies are usually climb and button-mash fests, fighter and warrior can barely interact with large enemies as they have neither good climbing attacks or ranged weapons, magic classes require too much channeling...
