Social Security and Medicare have been extremely unhelpful. A $25 trillion debt as well. All of this is damaging to financial independence. But nobody wants to talk about it and refers to it as the third rail because NIMBY. "Don't take MY benefits away! I worked for those!!" even though by and large, they didn't, it pays out more than they ever put in (particularly the city-bankrupting union pensions). The average retiree is actually getting richer due to these programs, we even pay out to the wealthiest individuals, and the ratio of current workers to retiree has dropped drastically from something like 30:1 to 3:1. People are having tons of fees taken out of their paychecks to subsidize benefits programs that will not exist by the time they get old. I would not hesitate to call it generational theft. Late socialism has failed and has left a massive debt in its wake.

The most important issue, imo, is making sure the autonomous zone is controlled by the Autonomous Solidarity group and not the Solidarity for Autonomy group.

Clunker can tell you that Gamespot has its act together. You should see how they handle complaints about moderations, it's like a competent company. Their staff over there recommends using a site feature which gets you moderated and insulted over here if you use it, so I won't even mention what it is.

Since I'm a conservative, I always thought that anyone could claim anything is racist and often it's a lot of smoke but no fire. But I look at what's going on right now and...I don't know if it's intentional, I don't know if their actions are just clueless. Who was that mod who went on for several pages defending that dog lady, before finally several people corrected him? And this guy is reading disputes, he's reading marked messages, he can't seem to pick up on this.

I have some catching up to do in this area. Does anyone have a master thread documenting this stuff? Wanna make one of there's not one? Send me a PM.

This has everything to do with the mod staff proclaiming itself correct 100% of the time. Someone questioned them so it wasn't treated kindly. If they did a 180 tomorrow and made a statement, they would of course be 100% right. If the guy then wanted an overturn, they would uphold the moderation anyway because "at the time" they viewed themselves as 100% right to hold the opposite position. This happened to users during the Smollett situation as well. There are certain mods here who will never admit they made mistakes.

I'll settle for having people that can do the job competently. That's hard enough as it is

Back when Harry Potter and Pokemon were huge, I did not understand why people warned about witchcraft, satanism, etc.

The books are basically YA and somehow people were convinced they are for mainstream adults.

Then I saw some of these young adults take the books way too seriously the older they got, apply them to every political topic as if a work of fiction was prophetic and had something to say about every world event, play dress up and spellcasting as fully grown adults and so on. Then I understood.

This is one of those moments when some people may look back and wonder why the site did nothing about the warning signs.

@SBAllen I reported this and there has been no site action against an open endorsement of domestic terrorism by a lead mod in 24 hours. I have zero trust in a moderation system that has failed to do the right thing for years and has retained staff that make such hideous threats.

Many media figures have openly called for a recession and their intent is to stir up trouble. The coronavirus panic served their purpose, but now the economy is recovering quickly. Lockdowns are ending so this is just the next media-induced panic. All of this is based off the news cycle - they were getting fewer clicks for coronavirus, so they started fishing the internet for things like that dog lady. They want violence and they want chaos.

I've seen independents say the only time they get moderated is for their right-leaning positions.

I don't have a hard count of the warned/suspended but pretty much anyone can tell you the ratio between people who were moderated for 'right wing' vs 'left wing' positions would be 100:0

I have asked which way the mod staff skews since at least 2013, and it has predictably skewed one way.

That's some great projection but no.

ITT a generic moderation over someone's political views was compared to an arrest for indecent exposure. I have also seen it compared to trespassing and setting someone's house on fire, when the two are clearly not even close. Last month some of them wanted me arrested and involuntarily committed just for posting news stories. Some people need to relax.

You heard that from the site, but it was a few updates behind. Mods started complaining that the response time took too long (this was the whole point of initiating the notes though, as it was meant to explain their actions and cut down on the number of frivolous moderations).

Staff decided it would be easier to "mod less" by upping the penalties from 3kl to a warning right out the gate. It also means fewer dispute options, higher penalties for disputing (extra 15 days on mod history), and no chance of interaction or clarification through the mod system.

All I can do is speculate on the last part, but I assume it's because there were some bad dispute responses taking place and the lazier option for the site was to take those embarrassing replies away rather than improve or pay their mods.

2 potential outcomes, if this makes its way through the courts:

1) the current system continues, but has to avoid deceptive advertising practices such as labeling itself as a "public forum" or message board. Maybe just rewrite the description to something like "approved users network" and that would be enough to get around it. However, this could mean higher penalties for the site if another church-burning incident happened on their watch. Moderation would be increasingly restrictive with zero tolerance for jokes and the legal team pushing for any sign of the slightest danger to be pre-emptively removed. I don't know if the unpaid staff, which is known to miss things for several hours or days at a time, would be up to it, but I also don't know if CBSi would approve of a paid staff especially after its recent mass layoffs. If they had to take a strict publisher model rather than a platform model, they may not consider it worth the trouble and it could unintentionally lead to accelerated board shutdowns.

It's refreshing to see someone in office who recognizes what people are going through, since he's so engaged on the technology side, whereas sheltered politicians of the Bill Clinton generation were known never to send a single email. Some of them are still like that, so this progress could've taken years if not decades to filter up to less-aware politicians. But I think that (pre-coronavirus) Big Tech was one of the top base issues, this move is simply the president continuing to deliver on his promises.
