They made a good job at making you hate abby through the whole game, and they made a terrible job at actually making you feel bad for her, she's a shitstain, acts like a complete bitch towards everyone, and doesn't give a shit about anything other than what she wants to do, she only starts caring once lev enters the picture but at that point its too late

I don't think it is really about feeling bad for her, just giving another perspective. Hell, as far as her story is concerned the Joel part is finished after beating him in the start up until she finds Owen and Mel (or arguable the last scene of Manny). It's just that (like Owen) she gets tired of her daily schtick and wants something more "light" after meeting Lev and Yara (as in going back to the norms of the Fireflies)

It probable could have been structured better, mostly because (IMO) the entire time after that you just want to get back to it and it takes a bit too long to get there. Not that the part in between is bad, it's just not what you are waiting for at that moment.
