Wait what happened? I saw this pic on FB earlier and have no context.

About a week ago, a semi-popular R&B artist named August Asina admitted to having a fling with Jada. It turns out that Will and Jada split up a few years back and were seriously considering divorce which is when the fling happened. Ultimately they got back together. They both have already been to therapy/counseling and hashed this all out years ago so they dont even care.

The thing about analogies is that the two things being compared don't have to match 1:1 in every single imaginable aspect. The comparison here is that both are symbols of state oppression of an ethnic group on the basis that they be worth less. Not that the American history of slavery is an exact carbon-copy of the Holocaust, or vice versa.

This. Its become perfectly clear to me over the years that people dont understand how analogies work.

So much wrong with the cops actions in this video

-The guy complied and handed over his ID and still got body slammed for no reason. They didnt even check his ID until well after the fact
-The cop who body slammed him never even made his presence known. Just snuck up behind him and immediately just resorted to extreme violence and apparently broke the mans arm. There was zero attempt made at de-escalation
-The idiot cops gave commands that are impossible to comply with. You cant put your hands behind your back when someone is bear hugging you
-Then after the arm breaking body slam, the idiot cop is like just relax!. No you idiot. Its not easy to relax when your bones are broken
-When they realized that they had the wrong guy, they were desperately looking for a reason to justify what just happened which is why they were mad when his background check came back clean
-Even if they did have a the right guy, all of this was a response to a panhandling call. They truly believe this is the best way to handle a person begging for money
-Despite all this clear video evidence, the department still found them at no fault. Despicable

This and every argument like it is so disingenuous. It totally ignores the fact that essentially every religion has so much knowledge behind it and developed from it that it would be impossible to learn it all in one lifetime.

So again, regardless of whether religions' claims are true or not, the religions do stand on their own.

Firstly, knowledge would be something knowable or provable which youve already admitted is not possible when it comes to religion which is why faith is necessary in the first place. Secondly, even if we went with your bastardized definition of knowledge, the fact that so many religions exist while claiming to be divine truth, yet theyre contradictory to each other on even the most basic topics. Hell, if we were to take the top 5 religions (based on # of followers), they cant even agree on how many gods exist or the form of that/those gods. This actually weakens the argument for religion in general and should make any logical person skeptical.

Agreed TC.

As a Christian, I will flat out admit that Agnosticism makes the most sense out of the three, with atheism and theism being two sides of the same coin. Declaring yourself as atheist, you're declaring there is no God, which in and of itself requires some form of evidence, because contrary to what gets parroted fucking constantly, you can in fact prove a negative statement. And in that same breath, making the claim that no God exists is almost as grand of a concept as claiming that there is one. So honestly, the two are pretty damn close to one another.

I feel like a lot of people who aren't into religion would fall into the Agnostic camp, but just don't really grasp the idea of it. So instead they erroneously identify as atheist.

Nearly everything you said here is wrong. Atheism does not require a claim. As post #5 already pointed out, theist seem to have a hard time understanding that.

Yes. Juries are often given the opportunity to vote on a lesser crime during deliberations. I know for a fact that this was the case in the Botham Jean shooting case. The jury had the opportunity to convict of either murder or manslaughter.

Around 2010. I had bought a new car and the dealer didnt put the correct type of license plates on it. When the cop first pulled me over, he insinuated that I had stolen it and kept asking where did you get this car from. He ran my info and everything came back clean and then I explained the situation. He chastised me and then let me go.

There should be a licensing process required to become a cop the same way there is one to become a doctor or lawyer. When there is evidence of wrong doing, that license should be taken away and youre not allowed to be a cop anymore in any jurisdiction, the same way a doctor/lawyer can be disbarred and prevented from practicing medicine/law.

The difference is quite simple: atheist refers to someone who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods, and agnostic refers to someone who doesnt know whether there is a god, or even if such a thing is knowable.

The problem is in the premise right here. A person not believing something is not necessarily making a claim about the existence of said thing.

Take me for instance. I've been thinking lately that I can either keep working for the man or I can start my own business and run things my way. But then I would be another one of these capitalists right?

But I don't seem to exist in a reality where I can earn a living neither working for myself or working for someone else, so my options are limited. So what do you do?

Zano
06/01/20 1:43:38 AM

Indoctrination from a young age has brainwashed a lot of Americans into believing were the best country due to the freedom it offers. The truth is, that freedom is in no way unique to America. There are a plethora of countries that operate very similarly to America yet actually invest in their populace (education, infrastructure, healthcare, etc.), thereby creating a higher standard of living for everyone. The USA is far behind on these issues.
