Actually, everyone with 388 should be there, because I just barely got in the Top 100 with 384.
Looks like its based on prize-eligible entries, then.

Oh hey, nice to know I finished Top 100. Too bad the badges aren't ordered by score.

Also, looking at the Guru listings, the Top 45 of the Guru contest made it to the Top 100 overall.
Everyone who scored 389+, and 4 of the 8 best tiebreakers at 388 made the top 100. I squeaked in with the 388 & a decent tiebreaker, having lost 32 points from the Skyrim vs. Witcher 3 semifinal - the one match I spent the longest time going back & forth on. Needless to say, when the 2nd chance opportunity came, I immediately hedged with the other game as the winner, but also eliminating any shot I would have had at winning 2 prizes.

I guess LastHeroDrew is the real champion of this contest - grand prize in 2nd chance and 7th place in the main bracket!

When do you expect the next contest to start?

They used to be yearly but have become way less frequent in the last decade or so. The next one is probably 18-24 months from now.

I like how you thought our picks averaging 47 were too optimistic, then wound up achieving it yourself.
Right, I was quite surprised!

Usually every contest has some late-round surprise that ends up screwing over a lot of brackets.

(For example, Zelda the character beating Mario in CBX)

Congratulations to @paulg235 and @LastHeroDrew for dominating this contest! Congratulations to @Camden for outscoring me by 1 point, as I realized a few days ago I could not beat him.

If all 3 of you are prize-eligible, then the tiebreaker between me and @th3l3fty is irrelevant; both of us would walk away with $25. Otherwise, my tiebreaker was 19,587, and the actual unweighted vote count was 20,488, for a difference of 901.

This would be my first contest prize in over 10 years, after a heartbreaker last year when I missed out on 10th place due to the tiebreaker. I submitted my bracket in between office meetings and put a random 7-digit number, thinking there was no chance of a multi-way tie in the largest bracket ever (CBX had 150 matches.) Needless to say, I took the tiebreaker seriously this year.

I said from day one W3 vs Skyrim was a tossup, and not a guaranteed W3 victory. I have Skyrim in my first chance bracket, and W3 in my second chance bracket. Both are fantastic games, far superior to BOTW, in my humble opinion. Not sure which one to root for, either in terms of personal preference or which will maximize my odds of winning a prize

Paulg has a pretty large lead right now so he wont be easy to beat.

Edit: If Paulgs entry in the BOP thread was his final submission, and assuming hes eligible for prizes, Im mathematically eliminated because I trail him by 7 points & the maximum total difference between our final 3 is only 6%.

I have
BOTW def. SSBU - mid 60s
Witcher 3 def. Skyrim - mid 50s
BOTW def. Witcher 3 - lower 60s
TB - 19000s

I have Skyrim def. Witcher 3 in my main bracket (but Im further down), so Ill be falling off at least one of the two leaderboards.

I wonder if Paulg and Camdens predictions in the Oracle thread reflect their actual contest entries? Paulg has a pretty large lead right now so he wont be easy to beat.

Using 2017 GotY polls, Smash would probably get around 35-37% (against BOTW) if you assume equal levels of SFFing done to both Odyssey and SSBU.
Thats what I have in my contest entry. But Smash games have a cult following & I can see it getting upper 30s to lower 40s.

A winning score above 700 would imply a mean absolute error of just over 3% across the 15 matches. Seems overly optimistic to me, even if the rest of the tournament does proceed as Board 8 expects.

Is this how scores are computed?

If you had BOTW: 50 - abs(70 - your prediction)
else: 0

If you had ME2: 50 - abs(52 - your prediction)
else: 0

I put 74 for BOTW and 53 for ME2, so my score would be 46 + 49 = 95 out of 100 possible. Is this correct?

Which do you have winning?

I can see it go either way. TES is a major brand in open-world, and has spawned numerous internet fads. There might be a recency effect with Witcher 3 & the TV series. Both games have been ported to the Switch.

Its annoying to have what is effectively a coin toss count for so many points at the end.

Republicans seem to be completely controlling the narrative around these checks. Uninformed people online at least (from what I've seen) are mostly upset that the dems are "holding their checks back" for one reason or another. Sadly, doesn't seem like many people care, or even know, about the corporate bailouts.
Hmm... the democrats seemed to control the narrative well enough for the TCJA. The average family saved about $1-2k, while billionaires got another yacht. But that legislation remains mostly unpopular if polls are to be believed....

https://prospect.org/economy/avoid-taxes-receive-federal-bailouts/

As the nearly $2 trillion congressional stimulus package comes into clearer focus, one of the most controversial components remains the corporate bailout package (which, as has been noted in the Prospect, is massive). In the days and weeks leading up to the bills final draft, a number of industries have been floatedby themselves or by the Trump administrationas worthy bailout recipients, due to the challenging economic conditions of coronavirus-induced shutdown. Among those listed: the airline industry, Boeing, the cruise lines, the fossil fuel companies, and more.

What do these industries have in common? They operate in far-flung corners of the economy, some consumer-facing, some not so much. Some are represented by veritable armies of lobbyists, others seem to just be near and dear to the Trump administrations heart. But one thing that they all share is a pioneering commitment to federal income tax evasion. All of the industries listed are among the countrys most decorated exploiters of tax loopholes, offshoring, and public subsidies. In healthy economic times, they contribute almost nothing in tax revenue; now, in crisis, theyre poised to be some of the biggest recipients of public funding.

The $1200 one-time checks are peanuts compared to this giant corporate giveaway. And if your income is not below a certain threshold, you won't even get it! Yet all people talk about is the $1200.
