About to ask a stupid question, but am asking in good faith.

Are Eastern Asians (like Japan, China, Korea) considered people of color? I understand they're called "yellow" sometimes, but their overall tone can be even lighter than white people's. Also, there are plenty of southerners called red necks, who quite literally have a reddish tint to their skin that makes them darker than East Asians. However, they're still considered white despite their reddish tint.

Edit:
Asking because Asuka is in that picture, and her skin tone is quite light. While I would never considered her white, I'm wondering if she's considered a person of color.

If you want to get very technical, Jacob is the patriarch of the Israelites, and thus the "founder" of Judaism. Of course, his father was Issac, and his father was Abraham, so it kinda starts with Abraham. I'm not too educated in this, so I'm not sure why Jacob is considered the father of the Jews, and Abraham was not. Perhaps it has to do with that his many sons eventually went on to found the tribes of Israel.

Let's first identify what virtue signaling is. Not my definition. Lets look somewhere online.

wikipedia seems as good as place as any.

From reading that, I don't get the sense that its a bad thing. So virtue signaling can be any form of outward expression of moral (or what is perceived as moral) values. It could be a person who was a victim of sexual assault as a child, and is now an outspoken activist against sexual assault. That is a good thing.

Now don't get me wrong. There are some people who want to capitalize on an ongoing movement for their own advantages, and don't really believe in the movement all that strongly. But I honestly don't think virtue signaling is exclusively that.

And why am I only hearing about this the past couple of years?

The reason why I'm only asking this now is because I assumed cancel culture was if someone (or an organization, or a company or a group of people) did something that people generally didn't agree with, they would condemn their actions, demand that their work (if any) be discontinued and even boycott their products (if they sold any)

But that has been going on for years. Long before the internet and long before my time. In that sense "cancelling" was already a thing. But perhaps I'm missing something?

I dunno. I was pretty far right before college, and was around the same when I left college. I didn't think my school was actively brain washing me.

I went more moderate (and in some stances, pretty far left) after my time in university for reasons unrelated to university.

Maybe until they stood over his body for a full two minutes and the guy kicked him that could have been the case. That time lapse 100% factored into his death and refusing to give care is easily murder in that situation.

If this is the case, then its 100% murder. Even if the suspect was a cold blooded serial killer, with multiple deadly firearms, once he's down, he needs medical attention.

I'm a person of color. I'm not black, but my skin color is about as dark as many black people. For people who grew up in areas where there aren't that many black people like east Asia, I have often been mistaken for black.

I've been scowled at many times, but it isn't exclusively from white people. Its also been from black people. I've got stories but they're too long, and I need to go to bed.

There are a few bad apples, but communities need cops for maintain order. They should get the funds from another area to help the lesser areas. Taking away resources from cops will just lead to mayhem. Then people will complain about higher crimes. Chicago alone is a prime example. Imagine defunding the cops there.

I agree we need cops, but Chris Rock convinced me that there should be NO bad apples. The training must be on point. Their mental stability must be accounted for at all times.

Whenever the cops gun down an innocent black man they always say the same thing. Its not most cops. Its just a few bad apples. Bad apple? That almost sounds nice. Ive had a bad apple. It was tart. But it didnt choke me out. Heres the thing. I know its hard being a cop. I know its hard. I know that shits dangerous. I know it is, ok? But some jobs cant have bad apples. Please bear with us.

It's just an emotional talking point where people latch onto two or three sensational articles acting like it's a completely realistic thing to do. Broken cops are often a symptom of a broken community, so doing it in those communities is just going to make things vastly worse.

The Native American tribes did alright without cops until the white man brought famine and crime to the country.

I'm sure many societies outside of the Americas functioned well without cops a thousand years ago. I'm not convinced this will work in America. I do believe SOMETHING needs to be done in America concerning its policing methods and training.

I know plenty of colored people who are against affirmative action in any form. Affirmative action can be argued helps reverse a racist trend of only hiring people of a certain race.

I also know someone who was an illegal immigrant from Mexico who got his legal status through marriage. Although he's not a MAGA Trumpist, he is a card carrying Republican. He's not an independent that doesn't vote democrat. He is a Republican through and through. He's not a republican through religion though. Last I checked, he's not all that religious.

He does not judge by race. He loves his Mexican heritage, and he is close with many black people. His wife is darker than many black people.

Point is, he won't be out to protest for BLM. He is more of an All Lives Matter, but not as an opposition from BLM. He, himself, was subject to incredible racism, and he feels BLM takes away from the systemic racism that goes on nationwide that doesn't involve black people.

He hasn't been subject to racism for many years, and I think that's why he's a bit tone deaf to the whole BLM movement.
