And aside from the video being fucking awesome, the song itself is really good imo. Heavy with an atmosphere

As someone who's followed the melee scene for a few years now the past few days have been pretty tough to watch. I never idolized people like D1 or DJ Nintendo but I always did enjoy their commentary, and I assumed they were positive influences in the community. I did think SleepyK was kinda weird though.

Out with the trash IMO. Melee has survived so much, it'll survive this too. I mean Slippi just dropped and will contribute to new growth. We just need to realize that some of the shit that people would just brush off is NOT okay.

I dunno about Ultimate though. I don't follow that scene.

By your definition, I probably have weak empathy, then. But I think it's less weak and more heavily skewed.
Yeah I mean I don't know you so I can't act like I can judge who you are. But I strongly disagree with your stance on this and I would urge you to reconsider. It's easy to pretend like other people make the big mistakes, but it happens to everybody and I would just hope that one day, if you happen to do something you regret, that people don't treat you the way you are treating her.

Plenty. I hate it when bad things happen to people who did nothing to deserve it. But bringing things on yourself? Muy caliente.
That's weak empathy though, I would say. A true empathetic response applies EVEN when people deserve it -- perhaps especially so. Like when I think about this, I think about mistakes I've made in my past, and while nothing I've done can compare to this particular situation, I can at least imagine a fraction of the shame and regret that she probably feels. That's enough to ruin any sort of sexual pleasure I would get from this, personally.

Just because I haven't made the specific mistakes she made, doesn't mean I can't empathize and act in good faith knowing how she feels.

it wouldn't be nearly as hot if she didn't regret it, though.

I think my fetish might actually be "play stupid games get stupid prizes". Heck, it doesn't even have to be porn. Bad cops getting fired, racists losing their jobs, those are more noble things to want, but frankly, I just really get my jollies from people paying for incredibly stupid mistakes.
Honestly that's a pretty bad take IMO. Allowing yourself to gain pleasure from that kind of thing is really unhealthy. It's fine enough to fantasize about it but these are real people.

Regardless of legality or whatever, I think the compassionate thing that we can all do is at least make the choice to just not watch the videos. There's a billion other videos out there that you can watch to get your rocks off, featuring professionals who are still active.

Just remember the human, that's all. Just a little self-control and awareness on all our parts can go a long way towards improving things in our world.

This is actually coming up with a Minecraft server I spun up recently with some high school friends, to play during corona time. One friend has been doing all this research to build the most optimal resources farms and stuff, which is fine I guess, but definitely not how I like to play the game personally.

He also keeps bugging me to give him the world's seed number, which is the initial number chosen by the game that dictates how the random world generation algorithm plays out. If you have the number, you can essentially use a bunch of online tools to figure out exactly where all the good stuff is in the world.

I'm like... eh I don't really want to do that. We're playing survival mode, where exploration is kind of one of the central gameplay features... There's already so much information online about Minecraft anyway, that it doesn't take long to figure out how the game's systems work at a very detailed level. IMO giving out the seed number is just shortcutting the fun out of it.

He also jumped into the nether ASAP and entered the End dimension without me or any of our friends because he wanted to do it first. Not a huge deal there but it's just kind of how he tries to play the game... really competitive and optimization-heavy. Whereas I'm just dicking around making maps and shit

I checked it out again after the NEXT update and really enjoyed it; then played it again when VR support was added. Both times, I really enjoyed the first 20ish hours, and then I kinda hit a wall where I got kind of bored of the exploration side of things.

I contrast that with my recent experience picking up Minecraft again after several years... Exploring the procedurally generated world in Minecraft is infinitely more satisfying IMO for a number of reasons -- one of them being actual biome variation within the same world, and the variety of interesting topographical results from the generation. NMS' planets have some pretty interesting procedurally generated stuff, but you kind of get the gist of a planet and its flora/fauna really quickly. And once you visit enough planets then you really start to see the patterns. The aliens start to look really samey.

So for now I'm tabling it, at least until they refactor the exploration and procedural generation side of things to be more interesting. I do appreciate that HG seem to really be invested in updating and maintaining the game -- lots of little updates and things that are pretty cool.

I used to keep a pretty big iTunes catalog but it just became too much of a hassle to maintain, especially when updating iTunes would randomly do things like remove album artwork or split albums in half for no reason. I felt like I was doing more gardening than actual listening to music. And if Im gonna make a hobby out of organizing a music catalog Id rather do it with vinyl, I think. Feels better to me, and less frustrating.
Yeah, that's fair. iTunes has some seriously frustrating quirks that I've learned to work around... I have occasionally sought out alternatives, but so far I haven't found any that can reasonably match iTunes' playlist-creation tools.

I make heavy use of the smart playlist feature; for example, I realized a year or so ago that out of my library of ~4500 songs rated 4 or 5 stars, only about 1000 of them had a play count of 20+, and significantly fewer had made it to 40+. So I made a playlist of all songs with a 4 or 5 star rating, but less than 20 play count, and by using that playlist I've re-discovered a ton of music that I had loved at one point, but just happened to forget about.

Also, iTunes is really nice about adding music from external sources (i.e. not bought through their store) to your library. Whereas, the last time I checked, Spotify isn't too great about integrating non-Spotify music into playlists and such.

EDIT: Forgot to mention -- while iTunes' handling of music metadata is sometimes weird and counter-intuitive, it's also really flexible and allows me to modify almost any data field. Since I use last.fm pretty religiously, having control over the song tags is really important, and iTunes allows me to do that.

I still maintain a library of downloaded music through iTunes, and listen to that on shuffle most days... But I still use Spotify as well. Typically I use Spotify to explore/listen to new music, and then, if I like it enough, I'll buy/download it via iTunes store, bandcamp, beatport, wherever.

fun story about that: that ended up being not SOAD in the end, it was some rando band called Rabbit Joint. It was just that a particular (mislabeled) .mp3 of the song was circulated widely on Limewire. And since the Internet around the early 2000s was basically the wild west with very little standardized/centralized databases about stuff, (not to mention the singer does sound like Serj) it was just accepted truth

Probably at least a few people still know about the Descent franchise -- the 6DOF shooter games from the 1990s -- but I do get the sense that it's been somewhat forgotten in the legacy of the FPS genre.

I've played a lot of Descent II specifically and I definitely have a soft spot for it. The movement controls, level design, combat, soundtrack, everything.
