It's sounding like a 7.5/10 type game. And a 9/10 if you're younger and newer to the genre.

Not at all. Sounds like an ~8 or higher. Pretty standard open world romp that is your typical Sony-exclusive flavor of fun. Anyone that expected anything different or revolutionary given the genre and kind of game Sucker Punch tends to make was just fooling themselves.

Mars War Logs was straight up booty. Never played Technomancer. I enjoyed Greedfall for what it was, but it is pretty generic on the story front.

You're not playing on normal if you're just mashing square and thinking that works. Won't get you anywhere with mechs, the bosses, etc. unless you enjoy fights taking 525415142154165 times longer than they need to. Most everything else is fodder that is meant to die quickly anyway to give you the sense that your characters are getting stronger.

I think for a lot of people, the simple explanation is that their moral code is "save my loved ones, no matter the cost." So they agree with what Joel did on that basis.

This is exactly it. Druckmann had to correct the course after learning the ending of the first game wasn't anywhere near as divisive as he wanted it to be. He didn't like that most people felt Joel did nothing wrong in saving Ellie from being dissected for a cure that wasn't even guaranteed to work.

Either way, gamefly shipped it so I'm still excited to play it for some actual context in-game.

I was pretty surprised tbh. With modern story telling, she'd be dead more often than not imo.

Honestly felt the opposite. Felt like the usual would be to have her alive. Maybe I watch too much cable tv and that's why. Sure, she'd probably be dead on something you'd find on a channel like HBO, but not on a standard cable channel, IMO.

I honestly can't recall any instance where I've seen P4 or P4G be hotly debated here. Its almost always talk about how its the best and that, while P5 was great, it wasn't as a good.

Just get the Royal Edition. I won't because I don't want to spend another 120 hours on P5 >.>, but I will say I loved every second I spent with it when I got it with my PS4 shortly after it launched.

It was kind of a technical shitshow at release, I suspect that accounts for most of the bad scores. Sure, IGN had an... interesting take, and I think Polygon bellyached about Deacon being a boring white dude, but other than that...

Could be it, actually. I only just played it late last year/early this year. One complaint I will say I have is how fucking long the game is because of the way they structure the missions. Most of what you get in a standard playthrough is required to progress the story.

I really enjoyed Days Gone, actually. Its one of the few instances where I was legit puzzled by the middling scores it received. Its not amazing by any stretch of the imagination and Deacon is a laughable one-dimensional protagonist with his irrational anger all the time, but overall, I really liked it.

More difficult to continue playing because of a lack of enemy variety, reused assets, environments, etc., sure.

Honestly, if you like it, more power to you...I'm just still butthurt that i spent nearly 40 hours on the game before I finally asked myself why I was forcing myself to play a game I didn't find fun.

The thing happens a few hours in. Its confirmed (unless you're playing on a harder difficulty...someone playing on normal yesterday hit that point just under three hours). Whats hilarious is that this only came about because Druckmann was butthurt that the ending of the first game wasn't as divisive as he wanted it to be, He wanted people to hate Joel but of course #Joeldidnothingwrong became a thing so he had to correct that.
