I heavily agree with this video made by Girlfriend Reviews. It almost describes my thoughts better than I could, except I was a lot more willing to forgive Abby because I knew Joel was not the good guy of the first game in any way except how he cared for Ellie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh5gzGs-63Y

This is a very good video that makes a lot of good points about how the developers put a lot of thought into writing TLOU2. And it's very true, they did.

The problem is that, while it may be technically well written in a lot of ways (and even that's debatable on a lot of other issues, like the incredibly bad pacing with the flash backs and a lot of the 'haha gotcha' forced kick the dog moments, sometimes pretty literally- but most stories have stumbling blocks like this, so I don't consider this that grave of an issue), it falls flat on its face in execution in a lot of peoples eyes, including mine.

I did not sympathize at ALL with Abby. She is an absolutely awful excuse for a human being that I genuinely wanted dead even more after her part of the story than I did before. The whole story misses the mark when it misses an extremely key part of the puzzle like that. There's no catharsis from the story, and there's nothing left but bitter feelings toward the whole thing.

It sacrificed themes and characters people liked about the original to try to do something that was, while thought out, misguided maybe not quite from inception, but from the moment they decided to write it like they did.

Now I'm not saying its impossible to like or sympathize with Abby. But if you don't, there is very, very little left that is a redeeming quality of the story, and often times it damages what people enjoyed about the first. And THAT is the problem I have with the game.

Sky's difficulty is a little wonky because Hard and Nightmare are technically balanced assuming you're on NG+ in FC and SC. Apparently they did this because the games didn't originally have the higher difficulties on their original PC releases and they added them in for the PSP ports.

From 3rd on this isn't the case however, and in fact I'd recommend playing on at least Hard for 3rd (and for all of Crossbell and Cold Steel though I know you already played CS).

You can definitely do SC blind on Hard but it will be quite tough in a few spots. And yes the prologue is one of the hardest parts of the game on Hard or Nightmare.

Also I think "everyone not Estelle and Joshua not getting enough character development" was my number one complaint about FC and thankfully the next two games fix that in spades!

I essentially jumped into a game with computers on default settings after completing the tutorial. A few hours into the game I realized I was probably pretty behind based on score, but I had no idea if that was due to one big fuck-up or the accumulation of a lot of little fuck-ups.
Score doesn't tell the whole story, honestly.

Civ weights wonders very highly on score but often they don't provide a huge enough advantage (though they are fairly big and good) to present an accurate picture of where you stand vs the others.

Also there are several catch up mechanics like spies, so even if you are behind you can make up the difference.

The best way to learn CK2 is literally to just watch some Lets Plays of it.

You'll learn most of the big mechanics that way which gives you a frame of reference for how to deal with stuff you don't know when you play it yourself.

But yes its super dumb to get into.

I understand the working conditions at ND were unacceptable, but I don't know what that disgruntled employee hoped to gain by shooting the entire company in the foot. If ND makes far less money off of this release than it initially would have had they not pushed their staff to its breaking point then wouldn't that just make ND want to take more drastic measures to make up for that loss? Surely the leaker wouldn't drop this bomb and leave the company in this economical climate... So wtf? I just don't get it.

this actually ended up being a myth.

A hacker found a security vulnerability in one of ND's older titles and got access to their servers.

FF6 would be the one I WANT the most though.

Yeah time and water are generally the best elements in Sky. Earth and air are pretty worthwhile in terms of spells too, even if the quartz themselves aren't generally the best.

Fire for spells isn't the best but you'll still want it for weaknesses, and it has some good quartz too.

Space is a bit worthless in Sky sadly.

Lockdown will probably last, in varying degrees of intensity, until August.
It could be done by late June or early July, but the powers that be will try to force everyone to start going back to business as usual early and we'll get a second wave, making it take longer and do more damage.

Bank on it.

But yes we'll most likely be in alert mode into next year.

He's the DLC guy, the game comes with all the DLC it previously had in current versions so you just get all this stuff for free.

Raka_Putra posted...
Also, man, if only it's that easy to get money IRL. This game's even more ridiculous than Persona 5, money-wise. Speaking about P5, walking around in this game felt more robust than P5. Kiryu had tempura ramen for dinner, yummy.

The 80s actually were like this in Japan. The economic bubble had everyone swimming in cash. The other Yakuza games, set a decade+ later, actually reflect this in cash amounts.

Also while Yakuza 0 is 'a prequel' technically its also currently the recommended place to start anyway because the remakes of 1 and 2 contain references to things from 0, so the creators actually intended 0 to be the 'new start point'.

???

The Zero patch wasn't machine translated, and there were no slurs in it. I'm not sure where you got that at all.

It WAS very poorly edited, but it was mostly accurate and readable with some exceptions. Obviously this will be the better version and obsolete the leak, but that's some pretty big misinformation you're spreading.

6 was one I really didn't like at all on first read but appreciated a lot more when I reread it a few years ago.

I think a lot of backlash to 6 that happened when it was new was a lot of theories being proven/disproven and people (including myself) not understanding what actually got revealed and drawing false conclusions.

I think its a very solid Episode now, personally.

And yeah if you've never read the Higurashi VN I very heavily recommend it. The anime does not do it justice at all (even if its an entertaining anime).

Re: Higurashi

Every time Rika died, she didn't just go to the next world. She went to the Sea of Fragments in-between, and created a copy of her memories to insert into a Rika in another world. Rika eventually decided in Higurashi Rei's Dice Killing Chapter (kind of an epilogue chapter) that because she is, mentally, effectively completely different from the little girl Rika, she would take the name Frederica Bernkastel (Furuderika and then Bernkastel after her favorite wine brand). However, due to the lessons she learned in that chapter, she decides to stop hopping between worlds when she dies and have this be her final life, like a regular human would. Thus, she effectively splits off from the 'her' that is still in the Sea of Fragments, becoming Rika again for real. However, the one in between still exists, and she is the one that ends up adopting the moniker of Bernkastel.

So Bernkastel is Rika, but Rika is not Bernkastel, basically.

That is, if you believe magic exists... :p
