I had mixed feelings about Brightburn.

On one hand, the concept is great and I wouldn't even be opposed to expanding on the universe from the ending.

On the other hand, there was no indication that he couldn't talk to his parents, mom especially, about anything, so how did things get so bad so quick? The only thing I could come up with is that he was a sleeper agent, and the ship triggered his activation, and that he was going to be evil regardless of how well he was raised and answers were given to him.

I'm not a big fan of the romance heavy plot Final Fantasy games, so 8 was a bit of a miss for me. I also wasn't a fan of drawing magic because I got into this stigma where I felt like I should never use magic or I'd lose stats. Similarly, I wasn't as big a fan of X for the romance plot, and I tell myself I probably would have enjoyed it more if Tidus didn't exist (zing!). I did enjoy FFX-II a bit more than X, until the end.

Our chickfila never has downtime. Like legit it's always busy, I've never seen the drive-through with less than 4 or 5 cars. During lunch and dinner rush, the line spills over into the highway and I'm surprised there's not more accidents, although I'm sure there are some. It's ridiculous.
That line gets super long, but I've had longer waits in a 3 car line at McDonald's than a 15 car wait at CFA.

Ive been playing the mobile version of FFVI lately, and honestly its fine for someone replaying it whos already got play throughs of this game in the double digits. But it would be a real shame for someone to experience it that way for the first time!
QFT. I was in Middle School when it came out in 1990. I remember doing a paper route in order to make money to buy it.

I was already a die hard Final Fantasy fan at that point and had played the NA versions of 1 and 2 (OG and IV) multiple times each. I was in love with FF3(6). I actually legally changed my first name to Locke in 2006 because of this game. I probably played it at least 10 times before Mystic Quest was released 2 years later. I did my first blind run, I did a 100% run (closest possible), I did a CES run, all imp party... To this day, the only game that has probably consumed more of my time has been FFXIV.

I played the PS1 version when it came out. I played the GBA version as well. I also own the game on mobile. Never picked it up on any other platform. SNEs version is absolutely the superior version, but barring that, GBA is the only passable version for a first timer.

VI most definitely. PlayStation helped bring fans to Final Fantasy, but many are ignorant that the best game came before the PlayStation.

VI, IV, Tactics, IX, and V are all legendary entries, and arguably better than VII and VIII.

My first playthrough was completely blind. I didn't know anything about the game other than it was a Slasher game, and I wasn't even aware everyone could survive. For me, my Deaths in my first run were...

Jess died - was too safe getting to her.
Matt died - tried to save Emily twice, and she had the Flare Gun (and used it already).
Ashley died - she investigated the voice.
Josh died - didn't find all of the collectibles to save him.
Mike and Emily died together - flipped the light switch with Sam when exiting the house.

Mike also lost two fingers in my first playthrough, and Sam got captured by the Psycho.

So, you can get Jess near nude, Undies/Bra only, if you woo her well enough on the way to the Cabin. She gets dragged around the snow all in her undergarments too. I always thought that would be just as bad, if not worse than the shaft fall.

To save her, you pretty much always have to pick the fastest route, and in doing so, never miss a QTE.

----

A lot of your deaths were prevented by simply not doing anything at all. Not pointing the gun at anyone, not attempting to save Emily, not investigating the voice. In fact, a lot of detrimental things are avoided by simply not doing something, like saving Mike's fingers (which you also did). At the same time, you were still thorough enough to save Josh, so your intuition was on point through out the game, with some exceptions.

When you use things like this as gauges as being "better", it's not really any different than saying things like "Nobody else knows their way around my house better than me", which seems like a cheat. I mean, it's technically right, but it's also not something anyone cares about or considers a skill.
Based solely on the OP, there is no cheat though. TC didn't specify it had to be within a very wide range of skills excluding day to day monotony.

The differences in the yes and no are either to be interpreted literally or philosophically, but the statement of rule as to what counts was left vague enough that either interpretation should still be quantifiably, 'no.'

Some of my characters were downright worthless in the final fight too.

Olberic was pretty much relegated to Rehabilitate and Plum duty since he wasn't adding much else through his abilities.

Similarly, Primrose and Alfyn in party two felt like they were just doing busy work while Cyrus an H'aanit did the bulk of the clear.

On the subject of the Runelord, I was a bit disappointed that the elemental buffs didn't go off on every auto attack hit. First time I found out, I used a 4x Boost on a normal attack, and then realized that first off there is no additional elemental hit after each attack, but second off the elemental damage doesn't get boosted either.

On the flip side, Therion easily benefited the most from the Runelord buffs since he was my Sorcerer. Since he had Elemental Aid on, on the Sorcerer spells cost 72 SP, so I really just used them for breaking, and once he was buffed by the Runelord, I was spamming SP and HP Thief for damage instead. The spell damage could only, at best, match the damage of a elemental infused SP Thief if it was fully boosted.

So that's it then... 106 hours later, I have completed the story of Octopath Traveler.

I'm sure there might be some side stories, treasures, or even a dungeon I may have missed, but I feel good about my completion.

Overall, this was a pretty solid game. I wouldn't put it way up there with some of the better story telling or game play from Square Enix. It's hard to top things like FF6, FFT, and what not, but I was vested enough to enjoy the game and it's lore. I read everything and didn't skip through even the side story events, so that's a pretty good credit to this game.

Might be some time before I play it again though, or what I would even do to keep it interesting on a repeat playthrough.

If you guys have anything you want to ask or add about my impression of the game, go for it.

Ah... Yeah, maybe. It was kind of weird when nothing attacked me in Hornburg.

But... Galdera defeated.

The boss rush was a joke. Their power level vs. what came after with Galdera wasn't even remotely similar in difficulty.

I did like the lore bits left behind, and I think the most fascinating of which was that Redeye was Graham Crossford.

Galdera was a bit much. I did do it in one shot without wiping, but from start to finish, whole Gate of Finis took me about 2 1/2 hours, and I'm pretty sure 90 minutes of that was on Galdera.

Not sure what the benefit of taking the Warmaster for part two was. I'm not entirely sure if that role made it easier or not, but part 1 definitely took the longest. I might have made things more difficult with my party formations, I'm not sure.

As far as the lores go, oddly enough, some of the heroes aren't really that tied to the story other than by circumstantial involvement. Alfyn, H'aanit, and Tressa seemed to be more in the right place at the right time and not so much intertwined with the destiny of Lyblac.

Ophilia and Therion, and maaaaaybe Olberic, probably have the strongest connection for being "main protagonist" in so far as the culmination of all stories being linked and their involvement with the evils of Osterra. Cyrus and Primrose are collateral involvement, neither primarily indebted to the story's branching, nor circumstantially involved.

As a result, I feel good that my pick for main character had one of the better stories, was a good candidate for main hero and bringing people together, and had one of the deeper ties to the background lore.

I am going for defensive setups, I tried to get my Elemental Defenses over 900, or as high as possible on anyone who could heal.

I started running out of decent gear and had to start using mid-tier gear on a few areas.

I'm worried about SP issues on Therion, even with his ability to get it back. I was also thinking of a Last Stand possibility with Olberic, hence the reason for forgoing Saving Grace and putting Fortitude on instead.

Very first Side Story I did featured Alaic. He gave me some backstory that he was an Obsidian sent to kill Susanna and failed, but was redeemed by her. So it's arching the Obsidians from Primrose's story into characters from H'aanit's, albeit very minorly.

I didn't have H'aanit in my party when I did this quest, so I wonder if the dialogue changes if certain party members are active when you do NPCs stories from their past.

I had Therion as an active party member when I did Heathcotes, but I'm not sure if there was any dialogue that would have changed in the side story.
