I've always wondered how long it would take before someone finally checked in on me if I were to die at home. It would take a couple months for family to check on me I'm sure. I can't imagine my friends would let it go more than a couple weeks with zero communication. My coworkers are a wild card. I'm close with a few of them and they know where I live. One of them would likely be the first to show up to check on me.

I've seen articles about colleges scrapping it just for 2021 to discourage travelling during what will probably still be a pandemic. I don't think any school has decided to permanently get rid of it. So if that's what your old school is doing, that is most unfortunate. Having a full week off is way more beneficial than 5 random days off, even if you don't travel anywhere.

Why on earth would anything other than "stop working immediately and evacuate" not be the correct answer?

OSHA requires there to be a fire evacuation plan in place, and I'm reasonably certain the employer could get in trouble if OSHA found out they were telling employees to ignore alarms, whether the alarm is a drill or not.

The issue isn't space, we got plenty of that. What we're lacking is places people want to live.

I could live in a highrise building in downtown Toronto, and be stacked 30 families high... Or I could live in the middle of nowhere Newfoundland on an acreage that cost a fraction of the price of that tiny condo.

One of those cities has more opportunities than the other, and prices reflect that. Space isn't the issue, opportunities are.

I've used it to play Red Dragon Inn and Catan, and both worked well.

Bought it alongside a few friends when it hit $10, and it was worth it for the few times we played, though I greatly prefer playing in person.

I have a lot of computer science and engineering experience.

Note that to work as an engineer here, you must be registered with the engineering association of the province you work in, and you must have an actual engineering degree (minimum bachelor's). Since you mentioned computer science though, plenty of software jobs that don't require an engineering degree, they just generally can't call it engineering since that's a protected title.

If you have an engineering degree from a 4 year program, those are generally recognized by the local associations and they'll grant you the appropriate titles.

You aren't missing out on much. It adds nothing to the game and just makes it harder to play longer, as well as completely destroys the battery life.

I don't know a single person that uses it for more than "I wonder how that looks in 3D", and then immediately shuts it back off.

See, this is why I hate this question. A friend of mine did this, and their interviewer responded with "sounds like you overcame that weakness, what would you say is your biggest current weakness". He still got the job, because these are fluff hr questions with little to no relevance unless you say something really dumb, but there really isn't a "good" answer to the question.

My biggest weakness is perfection. When I try to fix a problem it is in my nature to try to get the best solution possible. Getting to the best solution sometimes takes to much time.

I strongly recommend against this suggestion though. It's the most common go-to, and if they are interviewing a lot of folks, they're bound to hear it several times. More original, and more relevant.

I legit think they have some of the best fast food burgers, but I don't know if American and Canadian DQ differs like other restaurants (such as KFC). Their fries are some of the worst in fast food though, so it balances out.

Interesting that that's your example, as replacing a toilet is actually really simple. Of course, you mentioned renting, and when you rent you don't pull anything out. That's the landlords problem.

As for me, my dad is quite handy and is able to provide guidance for most things. Electrical and plumbing I'm pretty uncomfortable with, and major appliances I would want done by a professional (furnace, water heater, AC, etc). But I just bought a house and have done a ton of small things. Replaced electrical plugs, new baseboards, jackhammer out some concrete and fix the grading. I got my uncle to fix some of the tile though as he's a journeyman tile setter. No point in me messing that up when he does it for a living and can fix it in 5 minutes.

He already has the lawyers and accountants on payroll. He wouldn't bother - they would. It's generally their job to find these things and they're not just gonna ignore an easy 12k/year.

That isn't UBI. The entire point of UBI is to give it to everyone, regardless of their income. Reasons for it are two fold

1) The cutoff would need to be arbitrarily high to prevent people from intentionally not working or otherwise trying to find ways around it ("no, don't give me the raise because it'll put me above the $20 limit of ubi and I'll make less money")

2) Rules around the money means there needs to be enforcement. And that enforcement costs money. If it just goes to everyone, you don't need to worry about people not claiming other income or otherwise tax dodging in order to claim the money.

With those rules on it I would absolutely expect to see a headline like "Bezos claims UBI because his lawyers found a way around the rules" when plenty of normal folk would otherwise get cut out. Just give it to everyone.

And yeah, 122k would mean I would be living in the hood and probably get stabbed. My place is still cheap compared to most major cities, but it is certainly not that cheap.
