LA is the first one I started up, and yeah, its pretty great to see this classic thing I love remade in this incredible art style. also its nice to play on a system with more than two buttons.

Holy crap dude. Don't get me started on actually getting to speed through dialogue either. Combined with the buttons and the visuals, Eagle Tower and Turtle Rock also feel much easier to navigate too.

The game wasn't just a remake but a massive improvement over the original.

Can you tell me more about this? I feel like my water usage is always higher than it would actually be with just toilet flushes, dishwashing, and haphazard showering.

We tested the water level in this little tank in our front yard. We would make sure it wasn't more than a certain amount which it wasn't.

We had to call the water company several times to let them know they're charging us an absurd amount of cash and for them to monitor our levels. Sure enough, it was a flub on their part and our bill went down drastically from then on.

was fine with 999. The 3-D of VLR is a distinct downgrade and maybe it gets better, but the characters at the beginning seemed too stupid to live.

I don't mind the 3D although I will say I did prefer the spritework of 999. The writing is still amazing through all three games.

I got the Zero Escape games as a bundle. I played 999 and thought it was okay, but then had zero (heh) desire to progress into VLR, which didn't feel very compelling and seemed like it was really poorly done between the clunky 3-D and the terrible dialogue. Haven't touched ZTD yet. So...

a) Should I bother with ZTD?
b) Will I enjoy AI?

A) Probably not. It doesn't seem like the series is your thing overall.
B) Try the demo. It's available on PS4 and Switch.

* Make sure the AC is working reliably and not just jury-rigged with some parts thrown together
* If your water bill is too high, contact the company and let them know there's a serious error. That goes for any bill but for us it was water due to a huge issue with billing
* Make sure you're covered with homeowner's warranty for at least a year. This way the insurance can pay for anything that's wrong with the house.

Hope that helps.

Would you not say the popularity of Xenoblade was capitalized on by other publishers to sell copies of Persona 4 Golden and Fire Emblem: Awakening?

clearly it's really the garou

GGXX was a solid anime fighter that made anime fighting games popular in the west and had that incredibly fast-paced gameplay and weird character design. Not to mention the godlike soundtrack. On one hand, you have a point. However, that's not really the comparison I see otherwise in terms of their respective genres.

Then you have Garou which is still heavily slept on by all but hardcore FGC. It's never going to get the recognition it deserves even despite re-releases by SNK for PS4 and PC. It's like that great, quality fighter that hit all the right notes but never took off. Not sure that comparison is right for XBC.

I just see it as the beginning of the renaissance for the JRPG genre. If you don't see it that way that's understandable.

...

We really got off-topic here.

There aren't that many options for a female, Fire Legendary using a Red weapon. Since we just got Dimitri, the scales tipped heavily in favour of Lilina over Byleth. There isn't really a good third option so everyone else combined is the 5% chance out of nowhere pick. Legendary Camilla or Micaiah wouldn't have a Red weapon. Caeda, Tsubasa and Ninian won't be a Fire Legendary.

That's incredibly perceptive. Do you specialize in statistics or gambling?

Smash for multiplayer, P5R for single-player. This past decade was incredible.

Definitely not. It's not our site either. There's far too much elitism and gatekeeping to take it seriously. If it's too popular, someone will shoot it down with a contrarian take. It's like the opposite of the overly mainstream TGA.

IGN panders to hell to western devs. Absolutely not.

https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/12/03/every-ign-game-of-the-year-winner

GameSpot at least gives Nintendo some more leeway and Japanese developers as well. 2009 for Demon's Souls and 2013 for A Link Between Worlds is surely worth praising.

https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/every-gamespot-game-of-the-year/2900-653/

But then Middle-Earth and Half-Life: Alyx? Really??

It's probably easier to trust a site when you at least see the nominations and winners for various categories and not just GotY.

I wouldn't trust any site that didn't feature Persona 5/Royal as best RPG though.

Honestly, even if this doesn't get any traction, it felt good to just let that out there.

I was reading another thread here. Something like if there's a site that is the best when it comes to listing the Game of the Year.

There isn't. It's relegated based on multiple tastes. The only GotYs are the ones you enjoyed the most. The only site you'll say is the best is the one you best relate to.

I have zero interest in most WRPGs. If Horizon: Zero Dawn does not count as a WRPG, then I have zero interest in any WRPG. I also do not care for shooters as well as most western titles, or those catering to the west, such as Death Stranding. I find Hideo Kojima to be the most overrated game designer in existence.

Yes, he's capable of big-budget works with big-brained philosophies. The games themselves range in flaws from being overly indulgent to lacking a solid gameplay/cutscene ratio. The first MGS3 games were great for what they did even if MGS2 spent too much time on cutscenes to warrant much of a replay. I will not deny the hours I spent in MGS2 Substance playing through those incredibly difficult Missions and Snake Tales.

/end TGA 2019 tangent when they shoehorned an award to Death Stranding for every category but GotY.

TGA is currently the most prominent source for GotY. The real flaws, unfortunately, not only come from mass-marketing bias (RDR2, Death Stranding, TLOU2) but from the presentation as well. We do not care about these Premieres of random games we will never see again. We do not care about these mini-showcases of things that don't interest us. It is a gaming award ceremony. Keep the focus on what we want and not use it to leverage your virtue signaling.

TGA rant over.

It feels good to know where you stand and what you enjoy. But I don't think there will ever be any one site that will give us the GotY results we want let alone every year. It's virtually impossible.

Blue: Another Peony for any potential future Light setups, another Dimitri merge couldn't hurt, and Fighter fodder for Effie
Green: Everything is good

Lilina was not predictable in any way. I get this feeling there's a datamine that was only accessible to a small portion of the fanbase.

even by these bizarre metrics, Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 4 would be bigger considering fighting games were dying again until the latter came out. Melee didn't revive the fighter scene, fighters were dying through its release and Brawl. SF4 came out, boom, triple everything else at EVO, massively more views, and fighters became a mainstream genre again as opposed to a niche.

Street Fighter IV definitely had that "revive the FGC" thing going for it. It was kinda obvious nothing was really selling hard even though SoulCalibur IV had just come out. SF4 paved the way for BlazBlue, UMvC3, and MK9 to shine.

Revolutionary, I'm not sure would describe it as. I would say it was "revolutionary" the way that Xenoblade Chronicles breathed life back into the JRPG genre and made the genre become mainstream in the west.

SF2 >>> any Smash in this discussion. Trying to defend Smash is ludicrous and reflects your age. Nobody who was around and playing games in '92-'96 when Street Fighter was ubiquitous in the arcades would try to defend Smash here. nothing beats Smash in term of hype but Brawl did that, not Melee

Fair enough. We'll leave it at that.

I will agree Brawl did beat Melee in terms of hype especially since even more eyes were on the game thanks to Snake & Sonic and the install base of the Wii.

I use Melee predominately since it started many of the Smash traditions that weren't previously featured in Smash 64. Brawl put more eyes on it and added more to what was already there.

Arguably better as well if you're not a fan of Melee's scene or competitive meta. On the other hand, you can't deny the impact Melee itself left on the competitive scene. Even outside of Smash players, everyone knows what Melee is.

yes if you're using "people in 1992 weren't begging for new characters online" or if you're seriously arguing Street Fighter was never mainstream to say Smash was more revolutionary then there's really nothing else to say

there is no Smash without Street Fighter II

Street Fighter *II* was mainstream and fell into the niche FGC crowd after that. It did invent fighting games to be the way they are although what you might not know is Fatal Fury did the same thing. The only thing is it was heavily overshadowed even though they both came out around the same time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK3VltKv3JI

Street Fighter II set the groundwork. But if you asked a group of all ages which game is more revolutionary, between Street Fighter and Smash Bros., what do you think would win?

Also, would you condescend the voters for being too young to understand or call them plebs who can't appreciate the classics if they voted for Smash? Or would you accept that Smash Bros. had a bigger impact on a larger scale of people?

Almost everything there can be said for Street Fighter 2 only it's a significantly bigger monster. Melee not even top 20 in this considering the only thing it revolutionized was other Smash games.

Street Fighter did not become an internet sensation with people begging for characters.

Melee might not have outsold SF2 but SSBU sure as hell did.

SF2 might have started fighting games in the 90s. But Smash brought it into the mainstream. SF will forever be relegated to the niche FGC and 90s arcade nostalgics.

Smash is the revolution that has affected the gaming community with every iteration.

Edit: Yes I know SotN was Greatest Hits and re-released multiple times. I also know it sold better than the other IGAvanias.

Doesn't change the fact Konami didn't find the formula viable and decided to scrap it, reboot the series into generic western fantasy God of War derivative garbage, and give IGA the boot.

The silver lining? Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night raised more on Kickstarter than Lords of Shadow ever hoped to sell.

So in a way, IGAvania, SotN or otherwise, did manage to be quite revolutionary. Not to mention, prior to Shenmue III, it grossed the highest cash for a game on Kickstarter.

After the Mario series, it might be Super Smash Bros. Melee. We went from a Nintendo crossover platform-fighting game to a series that:

* Popularized tournaments to becoming an international phenomenon throughout the series
* In doing so, gained the top attendance at EVO 2019 and Smash 4 was also shown on Disney XP once at EVO 2018
* Spawned multiple documentaries
* Single-handedly challenged the FGC with its ever growing cluster of fans vs the scattered fans across multiple titles
* Spawned a sequel that featured 3rd-party characters which was unheard of for its time
* Spawned another sequel that brought forth said tournaments to international status
* Spawned yet *another* sequel that brought back 70+ characters from the entire series which, again, is unheard of. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Mortal Kombat Armageddon had a similar concept but not nearly to the level of depth, variety, or copyright-securing that Nintendo accomplished.

Smash has completely broken ground worldwide. Every time a new game was coming out, even on the weak Wii U, the entire world's eyes are on it. No game has people requesting their favorite characters to be added quite like the Smash series. It's the perfect unification of competitive fighter and party platform-fighting game. The attention to detail with animations, sound effects, backgrounds, and music is, again, unheard of for any other game to emulate.

The reason I say Melee has nothing to do with its scene or meta. The foundation Melee built was an achievement on its own thanks to the single-player unlockables, extra content, gorgeous visuals, amazing soundtrack, and everything it spawned afterward. SSB64 felt like a prototype in comparison. Melee brought forth the things we loved in Brawl, Smash 4, and SSBU and was used in the foundation for these magnificent games.

There is nothing in the world like Smash.
