If you wanna go the layers route, you can make a clipping mask over the base sprite (anything in the clipping mask won't appear in transparent parts of the sprite image) https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/clipping-masks.html Then make the clipping mask in multiply mode or something and play around with opacity/colors --- |
