I'm trying to make myself sad within a short period of time. What are some sad movies? I've seen most of the usual stuff like A Silent Voice, Grave of the Fireflies, Your Name, The Wind Rises, I want to Eat Your Pancreas, 5 Centimeters Per Second.

What are some uncommon/underrated tear jerkers?

I'm always told how Korean or Japanese horror films are far scarier than western made horror movies. Only ones I've seen are the Japanese made Ring and Grudge to see the comparison, but still think it's not really fair to say they do the genre any better. Originals of any film usually tend to be better anyways. Still, I'm curious as to what are some genuinely scary eastern made films. I'm specifically looking to watch a Korean made one tonight. Anyways, what's CE's list look like?

Also I'm not sure where it falls because of it being an OVA, but Gundam The Origin. If I were to recommend any Gundam to anyone, I'd say that's easily the best place to start.

Ghost in the Shell - A classic. Quite high concept at times, might give you an existential crisis. Still holds up today.
Perfect Blue - Never quite sure what is real and what is not. An untrustworthy narrator, a mix of acting, dreams, and real life. Excellent story being told despite the jumble of reality and otherwise.
Grave of the Fireflies - The best anti-war movie ever made. Full stop. Fucking destroys me every time I watch it.
A Silent Voice - The best anti-bullying movie ever made. Beautiful, shows how bullying affects both the victim and the perpetrator. I will show it to every class I teach as a full time teacher.

<u>SERIES</u>

Cowboy Bebop - Perhaps the best nearly fully episodic anime ever made. Exceptionally likable flawed characters, an old west in space feel, and wonderful fight choreography. Fantastic music, just amazing.
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - The best shonen anime ever made. Full stop. Heavy themes of war, loss, and the price you pay for power. Great characters throughout, understandable villains, just enough episodes to tell the story without feeling overly long and filler-filled.
Steins;Gate - An absolutely wonderful adventure about the power of science and the problems with time travel. Probably one of only a handful of time travel stories to get it right.
Haikyuu (S2) - Probably my favorite sports anime of all time and Season 2 is amazing. So much drama, respect for the sport itself, compelling characters, and wonderful animation.
Made in Abyss - If you ever wanted to see what a trip to hell would be like with stunning Ghibli-esque graphics... yes. Yes. Amazing animation and art, WONDERFUL music, atmosphere that is both wondrous and terrifying.
My Hero Academia (S2 and S3) - MHA is a wonderful story using the backdrop of super heroes to tell more complex narratives. Perfectly nestled in that cliche of shonen while giving a spin that keeps it engaging and interesting.
A Place Further Than The Universe - The perfect anime about following your dreams regardless of what others tell you, the coming together of very different people towards the same goal, and making you appreciate the splendor of our own planet.
Dororo (2019) - Wonderful fight choreography is the backdrop of a story of revenge, what is right and wrong, and how far will you go in order to get what was ripped from you. It is uncompromising, brutal, and brilliant. Great creature design.
Promised Neverland (S1) - I can't think of another anime that had such a deep feeling of dread and foreboding. Imagine that everything you knew about life was wrong and the only people you have ever known have always had other plans for you.
Keep Your Hands Off Eizoken - A wonderful love-letter to the creation of anime, the burst of inspiration that drives everyone in the industry, and the monumental task of bringing it to life. Wonderfully whimsical while also being down to earth, it is splendid.

Pretty damn solid list if I don't say so myself.

If I were to make a list, you'd have already hit the nail on the head for movies. Of course I'd really have to show some restraint and not list every other Satoshi Kon or Ghibli movie. Honestly that wouldn't be too hard considering Ghibli's got more "meh" films than outstanding.

TV Shows, I'd add Samurai Champloo. That's easily an all time top 3 for me. Soundtrack especially sets it apart for me. Also Demon Slayer is up there for me. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it.

Rachel was completely justified, most people saw themselves in baam, the stalkerish tendencies he portrayed and the "this woman owes me and i deserve to have her attention and keep her near me" attitude.

She was a far more interesting character than him.

I'd hardly call her justified, since from the very beginning she threw a bitch fit as soon as she got to the tower and then when she found out she wasn't called to the tower etc. Headon hit the nail on the head when he called her out. Then there was his deal that she took. Grimy as fuck

Yes. I had most of my dreams and ambitions shattered along with my hip. Jk. This has been a pretty bad year and I'd say most of it is because of my injury. COVID and all the other larger scale issues haven't made much of an impact on me actually

I've seen that complaint so often and I just never understand it. There's a lot you can criticize the show for, but a lack of character development for Korra is just not one of them.

I think it makes a lot of sense initially since the first conflict she had was with Amon and the equalist movement. What's that? You guys don't like benders have an upper hand and abuse their powers and even the ones who use them responsibly are still regarded as better and more deserving? Guess I'll just beat some sense into you with my powers. It's been a long time since I watched Korra, but I think it would've been so much better if it centered on that since it's the Avatars job to bring balance and that's exactly what the equalists were calling for.
