Right. It's totally impractical on it's face because too many people who have the cormorbidities that are of most concern live with people who don't. So like... a grocery store clerk might return home to their parents who are at risk and they dont have the means to separate themselves into different homes.

Everyone in general needs to practice mask wearing, social distancing, etc... even if you are in a category with the lowest risk.

Another problem I'm worried about is people seem ready to party the moment a vaccine is released and there hasn't been any strong messaging that this is really dangerous. I dont blame people wanting to get out but even if we have an effective vaccine this virus can still become endemic in the population if we aren't careful.

We cannot protect every single person - we simply can't. If, by using data presented, we can determine that certain individuals with certain conditions create a greater 'risk' of fatal Covid infection, we should prioritize protecting those individuals. (IE, food delivery, unemployment benefits, etc.). We can use that information to keep the world moving, while also reducing the death rate.

Now I'm curious.

Are you in support of the herd immunity 'strategy' or any of the ideas laid out in the Barrington delcaration?

i.e. we should hide those who are most at risk and fully open up the economy, minimize social distancing, etc... for everyone else?

This isn't a fair comparison. India has a far younger population on average, and more limited medical care in general and therefore less of an ability to track who is dying of covid particularly in the more rural areas.

No country is a fair comparison to any other country when it comes to infectious diseases. There is always going to be a different population density, different social behavior, natural barriers prohibiting immigration, etc...

but that doesn't explain differences of several orders of magnitude. Australia has huge advantages given its isolation and population density when it comes to handling a pandemic. That advantage doesn't explain how there is a comparable amount of daily new cases in just the fucking White House to the entire continent of Australia.

2) We don't determine the fatality rate of an infectious disease like that. It would be impossible. Almost everyone has a comorbidity. That's why 99.7% of deaths in your province have a comobidity. It's not covids fault that America is fat as fuck. Like... we don't only count covid deaths when it's some dude in peak physical condition because that wouldn't explain why we have the need for mass graves all of the sudden.

Depends on what you mean by landslide.

There are many scenarios in which a democrat can win the popular vote by 1 to 5 points and lose the election. The electoral college pretty clearly favors the republicans.

But once you start going above 5 points then the chances of republicans winning the electoral college starts to significantly drop off.

So if you mean a landslide like... Biden wins the popular vote by 9 points... then Trump is probably going to lose badly.

Are you doing a physics degree or EE? And that is a totally normal feeling for that class btw.

One of the problems with QM is that you HAVE to learn it as an undergrad because it's too important for physicists but the mathematical machinery used in QM is beyond what an undergrad takes in math classes.

You need...

Partial Differential Equations
Functional Analysis
Fourier Analysis
Hilbert Space Theory
Knowledge of special functions like Spherical Bessel function, Laguerre polynomials, etc...
And your calc 3 and linear algebra knowledge needs to be fairly deep.

All of that is like graduate school level math shit. So a lot of people in the beginning of QM kind of learn the process of solving the Schrodinger Equation without fully understanding what is even happening.

I assume you are using the Griffiths textbook right? There is a reason why he says he is "Teaching you how to do quantum mechanics, not what it means."

So don't beat yourself up too hard. If you have made it this far that is already an impressive feat.
