it's not automatically bad, but it is a harder sell

if you make a pokemon that's something I already like (a dog, a t-rex, a turtle) then I'm probably going to like it unless you screw it up somehow. if you make, like, a rock or an ice cream cone then it's uphill from the start. but not impossible.

for the record Golem is pretty cool, but Graveler is hideous and clearly worse than the ice cream line

gen 4 is solid overall and has a bunch of my favorites - Empoleon, Luxray, Gastrodon, Electivire

gen 5 is where the designs really take a hit imo

I'm working from home, so it doesn't really affect me this year. But normally I have to wake up at 6:45, and I love the end of daylight savings because it means I don't have to get up when it's still dark. It's absolutely worth losing an afternoon hour to make waking up less miserable.

Hmm, the song doesn't use the word "ghost" anywhere within the lyrics, but I could see how it might refer to ghosts.

I was thinking mainly of the music video (boy marries girl, boy murders girl, girl haunts boy from beyond the grave, boy commits suicide).

Ghost River is also one of my favorite songs but it's not really about "a" ghost, it's just a bunch of unspecified ghosts.

I mean, if you love the game and want to explore the optional content, that's great; but feeling like you have to do it is a good way to burn yourself out.

Not really. It says that being strong-willed means you can hold out longer (if you're so inclined). Anyone can be strong-willed. Also it's been consistent that negotiations and forfeits are allowed, as well as incapacitating opponents without killing them (for characters that don't like killing).

Being a cosmic being matters for timescale - e.g., for Maxwell, waiting 30 minutes is probably like FOREVER; for Death, waiting 30 years is nbd - but it still comes down to personality and willpower.

In any case, Star's transmutation spells take the form of a ranged beam which seems fairly dodgeable. Or at least the marshmallow spell does. I don't see it being a gamechanger here.

Having "a lot of options and ways" is basically the Terrarian's forte! They're a good match in that regard.

That green blast is pretty impressive - better than a lot of Star's magic cited on her respect page, so I'll give her that. Her showings seem to vary quite widely. But I don't give any cred to anything that "supposedly" has planet-level power if it's not shown that way in practice.

Also, looking at the wiki, I don't buy that Star is the type to immediately use All-Seeing Eye, teleport onto her enemy's face, and use all her most powerful spells.

Strangers, in her eyes, are just friends she has not met yet, and she feels bad if she hurts someone's feelings, whether intentionally or not.

As the series progresses, Star becomes less prone to resorting to magic to fix a situation, and she shows a willingness to become stronger and more serious and not run away from her problems, despite this sometimes resulting in her underestimating her enemies.

As of "The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse", after her mother's use of a magically-created army backfires horribly, Star outright hates magic, believing it only causes problems and that those who use it are "idiots". She even believes magic to be the cause of all of Mewni's problems and that destroying it will solve everything.

Diplomacy: Star has shown great charisma in her goal to achieve equality between mewmans and monsters. She was able to garner respect and admiration from the monsters and was able to bring momentary peace between mewmans and monsters during "Monster Bash".

Especially because of her diplomatic inclinations, I don't think she gets put in a match with a stranger (a friend she hasn't met yet!) and immediately tries to nuke his face off. I mean, it's not like he's an actual enemy, she never asked to be put in a tournament and commanded to fight.

Meanwhile, Terrarian is not short of nuking options:

Yeah, this. On the flip side, Jack can probably figure out Maxwell pretty easily: he writes in his notepad, stuff gets summoned.

Even if Maxwell does make himself invincible from the start, Jack has multiple ways to deal with it.
- Liquefy the pavement under Maxwell's feet to submerge/immobilize him.
- Transform the pavement into fists to punch the notebook out of Maxwell's hands, then just grab him. (This is way more feasible for Jack than for Armstrong because Jack doesn't have to go through Maxwell's summons, he just makes it happen wherever Maxwell is standing.)
