As much as I love Merchant's stylings, it's significantly easier to ad lib a script around your performance compared to elevating the script through performance. Plus even from an ironic comedic standpoint, I adore what Shimerman did with the "Ryan The Lion" bits of Bioshock 2 - elevating the usual cheesy educational video delivery (which I am a sucker for) by matching his delivery in his impassioned speeches, just barely remembering to keep it toned properly for children.

Hamill

Frankly, taking away the veneer of The Animated Series, Hamill's take on The Joker in the Arkham games is his best work as the character. Able to add actual vulnerability to the performance over three games, showing the age of the character, shows an evolution to the performance that is insanely hard to top. Adding in the obvious favoritism the character gets for "being The Joker" by the scriptwriters, and he's given so many chances to shine in so many ways, Hamill doing a remarkable job capitalizing on all of them.

... plus, to be fair, I love Mando's work as Vaas a lot more from pieces outside the game, too.

Is The Force able to be taken away? From what I understand, energybending is taking the energy out of the individual that allows them to bend, based on their chakras and chi. But The Force is just everywhere, working through a Jedi who guides it, who is just attuned to guiding it. Whereas water and air don't have consciousness, The Force kinda does, to an extent...

... or is that just EU force and is movie force different? I just question if there's anything to really take out of Luke, unless Aang would literally, like, bend midi-chlorians out of his body.

Hades is one god.

Three is more than one.

... but in all seriousness, should be a really fun fight. I do lean toward Aku since Regular Pit could traverse through Hades' insides and do some strong damage, and Aku can basically shrink copies of himself inside to do similar. Copies that, if they die, won't fuel Hades at all since they don't have souls for him to convert into minions.

I will gladly go to bat for most Jojo characters, and Giorno offers fascinating possibilities. I can say with near certainty that this is not a fight that he can realistically win. His deficit here is just in raw power; even in getting in close, Gold Experience is decidedly a far weaker stand than Star Platinum or Crazy Diamond. As I recall, the only fight Giorno actually wins through punching rather than trickery/giving someone else the finishing blow is against Green Day, and he has seven full pages of punches to accomplish what Jotaro and Josuke could accomplish in one. I just don't see anything he could do for actual, lasting damage other than reflect Terraria Guy's attacks back at him, and realistically, he'd have to get hurt once (Giorno is VERY bad at completely avoiding damage, he will get hit at least once in most fights, and it will usually leave him close to death), and Terraria guy has so many varied ways of harming him that I can't see Giorno outlasting him.

Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk/Jack be nimble fame) beat Death canonically in Fables by tricking him into being sucked into a sack. Death was cool with it since it gave him a day off and let Jack sleep with this girl he was supposed to kill for, like, a year in return.

DEATH's pretty good at making sure killed things are dead, but this is the most "go to the bar" kind of match possible. And if a loser like Jack can figure out something that constitutes a win, I see no reason that Bigby couldn't also.

Shadow does obviously have the big "survived orbital re-entry" feat under his belt for durability. Sure, that took him out of commission for a while, but it was after he'd used up all of his chaos energy with Sonic to stop ARK, so Super Shadow can be taken out of the equation. He does also have no-selling four GUN soldiers shooting at him from less than 10 meters with assault rifles simultaneously to release a Chaos Blast, which is also base form Shadow.

How does Spinel deal with teleporting? Even base Shadow has short-range teleport spam on the table, as well as healing his molecules with chaos energy and tearing a hole in space with Chaos Rift. I'm more just trying to see how Spinel gets more than one hit on Shadow at a time, something that he can pretty easily reciprocate whilst building up chaos power. Or just releasing his inhibitor rings, which let him go even with an infinitely spawning army of Mephileses (Mephilii?) for a while.

Even assuming the weakest reasonable base form of Mario (Super Mario RPG, no power-ups or items), you have Ultra Fire at minimum and surviving being tossed miles from Bowser's Castle by Exor. Not to mention the sheer athletics advantage Mario has in any environment other than 'plain field', since the times that you see Guile move are... limited at best. Bare minimum strength feet of 'able to toss 64 Bowser' also impresses me far more than Guile's showings of 'lost to Juri' or scaling him up to a little underneath Chun Li.

This is, of course, assuming Mario doesn't have any power-ups (which... I mean if Cloud gets any materia at all, Mario should get power-ups), or that this isn't a Popeye situation where Mario can just find his power-ups. In which case this is a rather bad stomp.

I do not see any way that Bugs gets out of the canon of his last match, overcoming someone greater than the Lord, without every single other God coming to hilariously beat him up in his next match.

I give Bugs a lot less credit against guys willing to play along; I find him inversely powerful to how serious his competition is being, hence losing to the Monstars in basketball and Cecil in a footrace because there's less material to work with. And that he's probably the only character in Broken who'd have meta-continuity strapped to him, considering the self-referential nature of Looney Tunes shorts past the initial run.

Gambit just got the luckiest bracket draw possible. Do you know how long he's gonna have to think of funny ways to win while Bugs does an hours-long "is this your card" schtick?

"Gun" is a simplified version of Persona 3's "Pierce". Originally it was split into three physical elements - Strike, Slash, and Pierce. So basically think "pointy thing ripping through you" as pierce versus "big explosion" being strike due to being more force-based.

I'm gonna go the other way and vote Samus. Whilst Joker has incredible flexibility, unfortunately, he is at a terrain disadvantage no matter what situation he's in. In a straight-up fight, Samus wins pretty easy. In a place with multiple ambush points - which I would assume would be Joker's preference - Samus has such a myriad of visors to find him with. Thermal, echo, dark - any form of concealment Joker has, Samus can counter it. Adding in the spazer for her to shoot through walls, I don't see any point where Joker could get an ambush. Even if Samus is unlucky and hits with one of Joker's resistances, the Annihilator Beam is as close to almighty damage as anything could get. Bad luck for Joker - put him against Doomguy or Chief and I take him pretty easily as being able to outwit and outpace them for a stretch.

I'd also argue Joker as a 4/week, but I'd also argue that Joker Vs Yu in a straight up fight is slightly in Yu's favor (actual showings against Labrys, Minazuki, and Culprit prop him up for me compared to Joker basically always being in team fights). Joker's better in a larger variety of terrains, though.

I am just impressed by Kramer's consistency. He is asked to hit an absolutely impossible tone to reliably capture for hours on end and he somehow nails it from the word go. His performance honestly helps carry the game on his back.

Bristow's performance is what made me interested in voice acting in the first place as a kid. Audio mixing butchers it at times, but his tonality is absolutely spot-on.

As much as I'd love to keep He-Man in mid tier (I do believe he's entirely mortal - just not morally), if you really want to extrapolate the potential lengths of Him to near-toon levels, yeah he's had multiple cross-overs where he's fought Superman.

Frankly, it's Him's MO to play with his food. Him is the epitome of a saturday morning cartoon villain. Fighting THE Saturday Morning Cartoon hero.

And there's enough lore around the Power Sword that it'd likely find its true shape even with manipulation - communication with the Sorceress through it as a conduit, the spirit of King Greyskull within it, the way it triggers based off of a righteous spirit.

If Him plays absolutely optimally, he'll win, sure. Take away the sword, don't do anything that would trigger Adam to reclaim it, basically perfectly read his opponent and counter them optimally, sure. But if he screws around in the wrong way, I have no doubt he's dead. And considering Him's track record against kindergarteners in terms of emotional manipulation and penchant for theatrics, I have a lot of confidence in He-Man winning far, far more potential encounters than he loses, most of them Him-orchestrated.

If there's one long-suffering man on Planet Eternia... well, it's Skeletor. But moreover, he's He-Man.

I don't feel as if it's really that hard to sell He-Man's ability to win a 1v1 fair fight; he's He-Man. Man pushes small planets and generates tornadoes, and can throw things faster than the PPG can fly without accidentally time travelling. But moreover... He-Man's PRETTY constantly mentally tortured. That's kind of his thing; most foes can't beat him straight up, so they'll try something else. The most obvious would be He-Man's encounters with King Hsss, master of the Snakemen. Hsss is the reincarnation of Serpos, an ever-reincarnating Snake Deity who tore his way through the fabric of the prison dimension to punk Skeletor and become a big bad villain. Hsss does a WONDERFUL job of, when not poisoning He-Man's friends or threatening him personally to strike at his vulnerabilities, brainwashing He-Man's friends and turning them into his loyal snakemen slaves. This weighs incredibly heavy on He-Man, especially as once Hsss has turned someone once, his mere presence can turn them a second time, with no effort or magic involved. Any time Hsss returns, Prince Adam is at risk of having to fight and kill all of his friends in order to protect an Eternia that Hsss continues to ravage. And this isn't a schemer who's significantly weaker than He-Man, either; Hsss has explicitly fought King Greyskull in the past, who He-Man draws his incredible strength from, and actively calls He-Man weaker, going toe to toe with the superhuman.

HIM's general tricks are just lesser, more isolated versions of what He-Man's already gone through. And then you're left with a tanky heat ray man versus the guy who pushes planets and tosses castles.

As much as a lot of the actors today give great performances, a lot has to be said about the uniqueness of the voices given. Special mention has to go to J.K. Simmons, who's able to disguise madness and desperation in with his comedy incredibly well, and then there's that DLC where it's just like 30 more minutes of his dialogue and it's wonderful, as well as Christopher Judge, who's able to channel everything that Kratos was and turn it into almost fragile exhaustion and mourning. That transition makes for a supremely haunting contrast.

As much as I love Troy, Templeman could read the phone book in his Kain voice and I'd buy the audiobook on different devices.

Second match is rather mean, would be swayed if I I didn't love watching the exact kind of smarmy ass Tommy Vercetti is. Hale shows her amazing range really well with the differences between Paragon and Renegade, somehow keeping a cohesive character for each in spite of how naturally fragmented the writing would be, and not in Meer's way of seeming vaguely impressed or annoyed by everything he sees and hears. But man is Tommy the only GTA protag I care about, and that's entirely based on vocal delivery.

Third is just great all around, both deserve accolades for what they managed to do. Burch just impresses me due to how she changes her performance during certain parts to reflect character differences, whilst Duncan is just solid throughout giving a consistently enjoyable performance with strong accent work.

I like when Vaas screams "MCLOVIN'" more than my ship sailing in the morning.
