Ok. So Yahoo just didn't say, "Such and such Youtuber has been here for 5-10 years, and his videos amassed a following of xxx?" That does sound like half-assing it a bit. Or they do that thing where they wait until the back half of the article to describe it...I've seen that happen.

what

I probably didn't describe it well.

I see the trend happen a lot if someone links a Youtube video about a subject. Could be a small scale Youtuber, someone with 1 million subs, whatever. They discuss something. Microtransactions, weird video game bullshit, etc. And then inevitably, a person goes, "Who the fuck is that?" Or "Oh, is that the guy who said that shit...whatever. He's just some hack Youtuber, who gives a fuck what he says."

I'm sure that happens with other things: wrestling podcasts, politics, sports. I just find people posting Youtube videos is the easiest offender to get that "Who?" reaction from people.

I just see that like 50% of the posts, rather than discussing the topic.

Reading some topics recently (Jake Paul Youtuber one because it just happened) revealed a trend that's been around...quite a while actually. Months or years maybe? A heavy amount of posts are one of three things:

  1. "Who?"
  2. "I don't know who that is?"
  3. Who is that/are they relevant/why should I care? (kind of a mix of everything)
When did they start becoming a thing posters would do? It happens often enough to be...distracting. It sounds like a dumb pet peeve I know, but I actually wonder about a few things.

First, if you don't know or don't care about something, why enter a topic or post at all? I would think the people who are interested in a topic would post or read about it. Second, is it a matter of people being genuinely curious about something or someone they don't know? If that's the case, is that the fault of the topic title or the creator not saying, "Such and such (YOUTUBER)" or "xxx (Professional Athlete) said this?" What I mean is, is the onus on the topic creator themselves to adequately describe a topic in detail or a person in general so most posters go, "Ok. Not someone I know, but I kinda get it." I find it does happen quite a bit with Youtuber or Twitch streamer discussions in places like this or Nonstop Gaming. In the grand scheme, Youtube and Twitch are NOT at all that big of things, but I wonder if it makes a person discussing the topic any less valid BECAUSE they are very niche.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm venting here. Call it a weird discussion point or something. Has anyone else noticed that trend, or even done it themselves? I bring it up mostly because it comes off as a form of trolling, intentional or not.

*also, pretty iffy grammar here. Need to stop that or edit it a bit*

Suspension of disbelief is the goal. The problem is most wrestlers want to be seen as half actors/half sport star. "Performance artists" is the term.

The issue is on both sides, being both too creative or too regimented, leads to a disconnect. There is just something missing in the "sport" context to be real, but too MUCH sport to be taken as a film or sketch comedy.

Sure, some wrestlers played the game so well they transcended it, but when the only person who feels "real" in any sense is Brock, it sure speaks to some core aspect of wrestling that just isn't the same.

Wrestling is...wrestling. But it isn't trying to be that. Or WWE forgot what it meant...if they knew it at all.

It's pretty amazing Bischoff has that level of insight, yet can't bother holding a non-podcast job for more than a month. I have to think he was half-assing it, because he knew better.

WWE is WCW staring back him like a Dorian Gray painting, and he's probably die inside if he stayed longer.

Be a part time "legend." WWE's booking for day to day talent is atrocious. At least part timers can go "At least I get main event billing for more money and less work. Fuck your stupid show. See you again in three months."

WWE has this tendency of "breaking people down." Either to a one dimensional "product," or never making them as big a threat as they should be. I forget when it started, but WWE as "the brand." has been the selling point for them. They don't want anyone to get over just to leave. But by extension, no one they have feels special either. If they DO go with a guy, say AJ, it is only after six months to a year after he already proved he was the most popular fuck WALKING IN THE FUCKING COMPANY. Drew took two years to get his moment after putzing around a lot of false starts.

John Cena left ANYWAY. Becky Lynch went to have a kid, and Roman stayed home. Good job with that.

I kinda wish we could take a blue pill and go back to a less "social media" era. I mean, it's impossible to go back to the "lol Jim Cornette fighty mcShooter Glory Days"

But you know, there's something off putting or exhausting about a 24/7 social media wrestling life somehow. Like it affects the product and consumption somehow. I enjoy all the weird trivia and stuff people dig up, but it comes at a cost.

For instance, the only way to be a heel is either

1) Be a shit wrestler or injure people
2) Be a dick to fans/WWE shill
3) Be "overpushed"

I would imagine being a face is even harder.

So, you're also telling me the biggest star of the past five years who got organically over doesn't immediately go into a slow burn world title program and a ready made Miz feud towards Mania, but instead feuds with a seven foot tall person who hates short people?

Or that two Japanese stars win the Rumble and both fail at Mania?

Still haven't watched a legit wrestling show all the way through since COVID hit. NWA still shelved, but they are trying to get back into things. I keep up with WWE's cinematic matches (or at least usually do). I haven't tried watching AEW since the Dark Order fiasco last year (even though Brodie Lee took over). I know some great talent is there, but the more I hear about what AEW is doing, I keep thinking it isn't what I want. NWA was though, which kinda makes me hopeful it gets back running regularly. Non-audience shows and cinematic matches just...don't feel right.

NXT seems like the best middle ground, but working 30-35 hours a week recently makes doing ANYTHING kinda hard.

Again, it is the phrasing.

The question, as written, forces two things.

1. "Who was" instead of "Is there" implies an air of,"Well...SOMEONE HAD TO TEACH YOU SOMETHING WHO WAS IT?"

2. "Name" either means marquee name or person TJP can think of who gave him an idea on how to improve.

The person asking could gave phrased that better. Instead of "Who helped you man up and be better," the post should have read, "Is there anyone who inspired you to improve?"

Both came off like dicks.

Yeah. Tag matches. But they aren't like Miz and Morrison, who separately at least have singles success. Kalisto did (in another lifetime). This just seems so out of left field. Not quite Jinder left field...but almost.

Gulak had chances, and Shorty G is named SHORTY G, but they at least feel like midcarders.

The same reason they don't do the Sasha feud and get it over with, I suppose.

My main thought is there should always be 6-8 high quality people on either brand who look like top tier, or can conceivably stay strong enough that they don't look like idiots when they get the "OMG ZIGGLER TITLE SHOT OUT OF NOWHERE WTF?!" treatment. WWE cannot seem to just settle on those people, or if they do, never fucking stop to the point it is ridiculous (Reigns/Charlotte/Brock for example). I just wish they knew which people they wanted to make that "Ok, he's not the champ because Drew is, but he's next. He HAS to be next. How do we get him there?" I'd respect them more if they just said, we won't push who you want us to, but we know who we want as top guys. It's more like they don't fucking know...

That seems to be missing on both sides, male and female.

It would be nice if top feuds didn't revolve around The Four Horsewomen so much. Getting Asuka in the mix is one thing, but Alexa, Ronda, and Nia (yeah I know, she sucks, but hear me out) helped cut down the overexposure problem a bit. It's as if WWE can only use Charlotte and maybe 1-2 other women as title feuds at any moment, and then everyone else just gets kinda...lost. Becky and Sasha sure were lost in there for a while. I'm just trying to wonder if it's a "the other girls suck complete balls," problem, or WWE doesn't know they exist problem.

Weren't Sonya and Mandy starting to get somewhere on Smackdown? I kept hearing Sonya had great promos during that little feud, and then just...vanished. Riott, Bianca, Shayna, AND Naomi all showed back up the last two weeks as if they were forgotten in a bin somewhere for like 3-6 months. I know WWE tends to do the, "Wait your turn, and we'll push you" sort of cycle, but it's like, "Here's a ball. Go play with it until we need you. Or post stupid shit on social media."
