Ah a good ol' fashioned bait and switch. A manager that won't go to bat for a good employee is a shitty manager.
Yup. She told me to trust her and that she will get me where I need to be eventually and to give her more time LOL

aka when I come back from mat leave

The only thing Im grateful for was that overall shes hands off and when I needed time for appointments or days I felt morning sickness, I could easily take time. I know I couldnt get that easily at a new company that didnt know me. So I dont regret coming back.

It's better than nothing, but not necessarily in every case. If you have a better alternative, the world would be glad to hear it.

And I legit mean that. I got turned down for a hire last year because I'm "too valuable as a contract asset." Which is bullshit, as I'd take a substantial pay cut and already have a 10+ year history with the company, but they know I have MS, and I'd drive up insurance costs.

Can I prove it? No. Have laws helped me? No. Are they pointless? Also no.
Yes youre right, pointless isnt the right word. Just ineffective. Im sorry you went through the same thing

Ding ding.

It definitely sounds like theyre avoiding promoting until youre off maternity leave. And theres very little one can do. It sucks.
It sucks so bad. I really gave it my all. I had a feeling it would go this way because she suddenly got quiet about it near the end of the year. I kept telling my husband that I just knew they werent going to do it. Why pay me more if Im taking a leave? Plus Im not going anywhere so Im at their mercy.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Yes Ive had 3 people reach out in recent weeks. 2 are former VPs who worked at my company and called me to say if I ever came back from mat leave and wasnt happy, to give them a call because theyd love me on their team. A third reached out to me last week because she heard about me from someone at her company and wanted to chat with me about opportunities on her team. Im talking to her next week. I dont know if she knows Im pregnant but figure its worth just a chat in case I need to line something up after.

All 3 companies are known to pay a lot more. Ive made a bit of a name for myself in my industry so Im not worried. But still hurt that Id be disregarded this way.

Didn't you come back (or was it stay) at this job partly because they were talking about a path upwards? Yikes.
Yes I came back and they specifically promised they would do better in upward mobility for me. Its why we had a plan outlined. We did merge with another company and now have new upper management. But other people have still gotten promotions. So I cant help but feel this would have been a different conversation if I wasnt pregnant. She didnt even seem like she wanted to try whatsoever.

Im being passed up for promotion this year. Im taking maternity leave right around March, right when we have promo cycles. All 2020 we worked out a plan (me and my manager) for me for promotion and I hit everything that was outlined. When I asked my boss about it today, I was told she wasnt putting me up because upper management will deny it. I asked if I missed anything and she said no, Ive been doing amazing. There is even a leveling guide where they outline what responsibilities are expected per level and Ive done everything for the next level. Theyre new management but people have still been promoted anyway. Instead she told me we can try for the August cycle instead (its for off-cycle/one off promos), which coincidentally is around the time I would get back from leave. I asked her how I would have a better shot in August at impressing upper management if Ill be gone the whole time. She said she couldnt answer that.

Of course I have no proof Im actually being discriminated against. None of this is in writing. Managers know to be careful. Laws are pointless because they only protect you if you have hard evidence.

I feel utterly deflated. I worked my ass off all year and took on more than any team member. Even while pregnant I was performing better than others. And now Im 6.5 months and half our team quit and Im doing 3 peoples jobs and working 12 hour days because my boss asked me to step in (because Im literally one of the top performers who can do it). At least now I know to just faceroll these next two months and phone it in as much as possible. It still sucks to know that theres just no justice really.

I cant drink so Im drowning myself in cookies...

Ya she had a growth scan on Monday because the placental cord insertion was a little off where it should have been (that's fine). Baby is in the 49th percentile at 4 lbs 10 oz. Everything is measuring right on or a day ahead or behind except for his head which is 2 weeks ahead! I joke about how he got it from me (I have a giant head), and my wife gets jokingly annoyed cause she's the one who has to push it out, lmao.

Ya she was having nosebleeds for a while until we got a humidifier for the bedroom. That stopped them pretty much right away.

Good luck with your growth scan!
Yeah my placenta is low too! They want to see that its moved up a bit. Initially it was over my cervix and its been slowly moving so theyre optimistic that it should be ok enough now. Lol thats funny about his head! Our girl seems to have a big head too and my husband jokes that she has his brain lol. She also kicks the crap out of me all day and we joke shes going to be active like him because I was a calm baby while he liked to run everywhere. Its like shes doing gymnastics in there sometimes.

Ugh Ive tried a humidifier for weeks to no avail. My doc on Monday said to try Vaseline in my nostrils before bed and Ive been doing that but still had an episode this morning out of nowhere. It looked like a murder scene.

Good to know about raisins!

Im taking note of all these suggestions and going to put a grocery order.

A big reason is I was too nauseous to eat much of anything up until a month ago. But by then Ive had such low energy plus back pains to cook myself anything decent. My husband tries and helps but hes clueless in the kitchen.

Im 28 + 4. I did the test Monday. Wow you guys are getting closer, how exciting! Did your wife have to do a growth scan? Thats next on the books for me at 30 weeks.

By any chance, has your wife experienced nose bleeds? Ive been getting terrible ones that doc says is normal. Wonder if its contributing to the anemia.

Even now lugging around a beach ball belly I feel like I still look good. All my pregnancy weight has gone to my belly and I havent ballooned up. Part of it is inflation not lining up with current wages. Its incredibly difficult to save for a down payment for a home. Im in SoCal and when we bought out home we were making a combined $200k and we still borrowed money from a family member to help us with a down payment. Without their help, we would have had a much difficult time saving the money while the market kept increasing beyond our ability to catch up.

There are definitely people who dont manage money well or spend frivolously. My sister has always made a decent income but spent her money on big luxurious trips and entertainment and now is getting hit with reality of how difficult buying a home is. I kept warning her that she should save more and she was adamant that she didnt care to buy a house. Now shes complaining all the time about how badly she wants a house and how expensive the market is.

Sounds right. When we were looking, any house we liked that we wanted to take a couple of days to think on was gone within a few days. I used to get annoyed with my husband because Id really like a house and he was on the fence and then it was gone. With this house, he saw it first and called me insisting I go see it that day. I went and then we made the offer immediately. It was what we wanted. The process was so stressful though. I cant even imagine buying right now. The prices are insane and competition is even higher.

Sounds about right. Im so glad we were able to buy our house 4 years ago. It was so hard to lock down though, houses get snatched up so quickly and there are so many all cash buyers.

We lucked out that our house was being sold by a third party moving vendor that would accept the first offer at asking price. We went to see it days before an open house and made the offer same day and got it.

Since then its gone up nearly $300k in value which is crazy. The market is insanity right now.
