I see what you mean. I actually think the best horror games are the ones that don't have jumpscares and just focus on unsettling you. Those resonate the most for me. Anyway, new part!

I mean, for Pokemon, they seem to be saving major announcements for that franchise in another kind of presentation entirely.

But I agree...was kinda hoping to see some Metroid news. A new F-Zero announcement would've been incredible but I didn't see that happening.

Well, if you didn't like X for how open it is and how the main story and characters didn't seem to be as much of a focus, then 2 is more like 1. In ways, it's better than 1, but in other ways it's...kinda annoying.

- The gameplay is slow to start and takes too long to get "good", but I consider its "good" to be better than Xenoblade 1.
- While characters in 1 defy their tropes in favor of character growth, 2's characters are defined by their tropes but have multiple layers hidden beneath. I guess it depends on if you prefer character growth over character depth, but I personally feel like Xenoblade 2's characters are a bit more interesting and realized, and I was able to connect with them in a deeper sense than Xenoblade 1's. Some of them go through some growth as well but it's more subdued. Meaningful moments between characters are more frequent in 2 than in 1 and I appreciate that. Basically, look at the beginning of the Fallen Arm in 1 as an example of character interactions in the story that 2 expanded upon.
- Various QoL changes like more meaningful stories to sidequests, item collection being less annoying, and defeated unique monsters showing up as tombstones so you can freely re-fight them are well appreciated. But on the other hand, some sidequests and exploration being blocked off by field skill checks make those things a bit annoying to deal with, considering what field skills you have entirely depend on your luck on what Blades (glorified weapons) you've awakened. This is the "gacha" system that people talk about. Real money isn't used whatsoever, but you still have to rely on pure luck for these things. And even if you do have the field skills, they have to be in your active party to work, so it requires a bunch of switching around.
- Soundtrack is breathtaking. Many times it's better than Xenoblade 1, though I don't think anything hits quite as hard as some of the major event themes from Xenoblade 1, like Unfinished Battle, Tragic Decision, and Engage the Enemy. Comes close though.
- The world feels much more alive and fleshed out. There's so much more history to everything, which I love. Bionis/Mechonis felt like a more interesting and interconnected world which I will always appreciate, but Alrest has a richer history.
- Xenoblade 2 has far more side content and post-game stuff to go through. Whether you feel much of it is pointless artificial grinding is up to you, but I spent 400+ hours on it compared to 150+ with Xenoblade 1. And to be fair, the gameplay is quite addicting for me to be spending THAT much time on it.

I disagree.

It's worse in some aspects to 1, but better in others. I personally wouldn't consider it "far and away" the worst Xenoblade. Game was addicting enough to get me to play for over 400 hours.

I'm starting a short Let's Play of an indie horror game on Steam. It's fairly well-made, though it's heavily inspired off of multiple horror games. Lasted about a couple hours, so maybe wouldn't recommend it unless it's on a sale, but it was fun! So yes, I did record all of it. It'll all be uploaded by next Monday though.

Fun fact: This game used to be called House on the Hill, but it underwent a name change. The dev said Hasbro got pissy at him and threatened to sue because of the name (apparently they own "House on the Hill" even though it's not based off the board game at all), but I think I like this name anyway. That explains the naming discrepancy in the Let's Play...I recorded it before the name change, lol. So here's the first part!

Yeah I kinda disagree with the story thing. It's nice to have but not every fighting game needs it or has the budget to devote to something like that. I do think they should have all the other options (aside from the beat-em-up mode) though.

It'll come out, I'm sure. My hope is that it actually turns out good, though. Retro Studios has a good track record though...for the projects that actually manage to get past pre-production at least. (The time between DKC Tropical Freeze and when they got a hold of MP4 was a period of a lot of cancelled projects it seems.)
