For poor people, they literally can't buy a house under any circumstances. It's not a choice for them, they don't qualify for the loans and they don't have the cash. So for someone in that situation, a service is not being provided, they're just paying to exist and have a roof over their heads. They're paying but not acquiring anything permanently, they're just giving over their money and potential savings to add to another party's potential savings.

Can people at least admit this or explain why it's wrong, for the poor?

If you guys want to preserve the rental market for the people who are renting for convenience, then here's the compromise: we can bring back renting when every man, woman, and child has adequate, safe, secure, and permanent housing. Until then, landlording is by necessity exploitation.

This about sums it up

For sure. I think the bases for it could make sense looking at it in relation to things we've found now like the relative age effect or links between personality traits and birth season. Maybe astrology was just the previous attempt to describe these?

It depends on the person, but I'd say in some cases certainly, especially if the thing in question has some fringe benefit (fun, stress relief, distraction etc.) or inherent value to you

In itself the act of trying to excel at something can also be fulfilling imo

And you also don't necessarily know what your ceiling is until you try the thing, and even then there might points of struggle that appear falsely to you as a plateau when really it's really just a normal part of the process. There are plenty of people who've only reached their peak at a thing later in life too

Magnolia Electric Co. by Songs: Ohia - Kinda reminds me of Neil Young, though the vocals are maybe a bit less "loose"? I'm not sure that's the right word for it. Leans in a bit too far into country western at certain points for my taste, but I thought it was relatively easy to listen to all the same.

Yeah - they were definitely big Neil Young fans. The lead singer/writer actually formed the band after he saw them playing in a bar doing a cover of Neil Young's Zuma album haha

Some companies in the U.S. have received "breakthrough therapy" designation to accelerate research and get them onto the market quicker, and this was a couple of years ago already so I'd imagine they're not far off now. I know in Canada we have some big companies working on this as well, and I'm sure there are also some big ones in Europe - maybe even the UK as Imperial College has been a big leader in researching this stuff

Yeah I totally should not have started a fantasy novel without reading more than like...three fantasy novels in my lifetime.

Aw I don't know. I feel like if you have an idea you feel good about and/or inspired by that's all you need really; something like a hero's journey has been told and retold countless times, but can still be really enjoyable even when it adheres closely to that structure

Not to say that reading a lot isn't valuable for other reasons, like inspiring new and novel ideas/pushing conventions, or understanding the market etc.

oh god I have my meeting with the financial advisor today and Im really nervous to tell her Im dropping my classes

Lots of second thoughts and doubts running through my head now. What if Im making the wrong choice? What if I dont find a job quickly enough? What if I actually can catch up but Im too lazy? What if I regret doing this? Maybe Im making it out to be a big deal when it isnt and I could actually do the work if I tried hard enough

Don't overthink it too much; look at what the experience has been like so far and think about whether or not that was sustainable

Taking some time to discover yourself and building a solid foundation is never something you'll regret

Also don't be so quick to label yourself; it's tempting to think that way when you can't see any other reasons and in many ways it's further reinforced in our culture but there are many things that can be going on unaddressed and affecting you in ways you might not be aware of at all. I used to think the same way before I actually started looking deeper into what ADHD and depression were and realized there were just different things that made me tick

And good on ya for making your well-being a priority
