It's a dumb, obnoxious commercial but it doesn't make me "angry," or atleast no angrier than any other shitty commercial does.

The thing that rubs people the wrong way about it, including myself, is that it definitely gives off "old boomer corporate people attempting to seem hip to younger audiences" vibes. This and the fact they pull it off quite poorly results in some strong cringe.

TC do you have a PSP? Because FFIV is on that as well and is probably best on that. The PSP version even comes with its sequel The After Years and adds some bonus story mode that takes place between FFIV and FFIV:TAY.

Most mainline FF games don't have sequels, and the ones that do their sequels aren't part of the numbered series ( ie FFX's sequel is named "FFX-2", not "FFXI").

If you do want to start out with the NES titles, then I'd recommend looking into either the GBA or PSP versions of 1 and 2, as the NES versions are pretty rough. FFIII the only way to play that officially is the DS version. Personally I'm not a fan of FFIII and would recommend just going for FFV (also ported to GBA) if you want a FF title with a job system.

honestly, I'm not against them adding a bunch of obscure games on the NES/SNES online (assuming they're actually good, which I don't know if these ones are), since some of the more popular, well known games are probably already available through other channels like the NES/SNES mini, past Virtual consoles, collections, etc.

that said it would be nice to see some heavy hitters a bit more frequently.

I play it in handheld mode most of the time.

If I do play it on my TV though I do have a pro controller.

It's definitely possible to accidentally kill even if you know about sparing. I remember my first run I got Toriel to around half health, she wasn't budging despite me continuing to spare, so I thought I had to knock her health until it was low enough to spare her...then after another strike her health bar just fucking disappeared due to the last attack doing WAY more damage because...reasons?
