i've made bulk wine that sells for $7 with low quality grapes, you really have to play god with bagged sugar, copper, and sulfur dioxide to make the wine palatable.

then the other end of the spectrum there's lovely handpicked grapes in a bumper year that basically makes itself into a world class drop with minimal intervention/additives.

there's a big difference between a $7 bottle and a $30 bottle. from many years experience, anything north of $80 for the sake of buying an expensive bottle isn't worth it.

I'm not sure most people realize what goes into their wine.

Cashier preferably.

I get a bit stroppy when the self checkout fucks out and there's no attendant to suss it, this is when in the past I've just taken whatever didn't scan.

Definitely some Lynchian weirdness throughout the first season which can be hard to dig.

Hello Husikam. How have you been? What are you up to these days?

Yo Mister Sunhawk.

Been alright - we quit our jobs and sold our house at the start of this year so my wife and I could have a year of travel before having children but only made it a few months before having to come home. Shit year to be job hunting/buying a house etc but we've made it through and things are looking good again.

How're things with you man?

the book is great, IMO, but the TV series is really weak in comparison, especially season two.

Sweet - that's what I'd gathered. It's a shame as the first season was genuinely stunning.

Depends how much you drink! My friend runs a 5 acre vineyard which sits between commercial growing and personal use. It also depends on the varietal and how much it yields.

Biggest advice I can give you for winemaking is 1) oxygen is your enemy, 2) sanitize and clean literally everything, 3) taste everything along the way, 4) sulfur dioxide is a godsend.

Do you have any vineyards/wine regions near you? I'd get in touch with one and see if they'll look after you. Some smaller wineries will let you pick for a few days in exchange for some grapes, a win win for both parties.

We have our own vineyard on site but also use contract growers, that way we can make 10+ different wines but only have to look after one vineyard. Obviously this is a commercial operation but I buy grapes for myself on the side from the growers too, there's always something cheap floating around.

Just don't use supermarket grapes (typically the seedless thompson grape). Wine grapes are smaller and choca with flavour, supermarket grapes are big, fat with water and sweet but nothing else.
