He had feelings for Rinoa since the first time he danced with her, but never expressed them until later in the game. Regardless of him expressing his feelings, Rinoa became a friend and part of their team. At the time she needed to be rescued during Disc 1, Squall went to save a friend, not a lover. Granted it was Irvine who peer'd Squall into doing it. But I really think if Squall didn't care, he wouldn't have even tried to save Rinoa. Not only that, Squall console'd Irvine after the missed shot attempt. I dunno, I feel that's really reading between the lines. FF8 is unironically my second favorite FF, behind 7, and I've played through it a good number of times. The romance always felt forced. |

Except that did happen, in the very first movie. The humans are about to win against the machines when skynet does the time travel as a last ditch move. They win, but then figure out how the time travel machine works in order to counter skynet's time travel. I guess that means it's not really time travel but dimension travel, as the skynet time travel would've immediately erased that future. Every movie after that is just continued splintering of different dimensions with different timelines...whatever, it's all fucked. |

She kind of teases him and some characters try to push them together, but he consistently doesn't give a shit. Then when Last time I played the game I paid close attention to all the dialogue, and the romance just comes out of nowhere. |

Rinoa's invincible moon or using a holy war (which you essentially have unlimited of if you've done the card quest) makes your party untouchable. Protect and shell are nothing compared to literally taking 0 damage from everything. Still, most of the game it's not needed. Keeping your party low hp to spam limit breaks works for the majority of the game, and it's not till end game bosses that you need to use auras and invincible, and even then it's really just ultima and omega weapons that need everything. |
