I voted Threshold but I forgot about Shades of Gray. Hilariously I remember seeing the promo on TV years ago. It wasn't until years later that I knew about clip show episodes being a thing that I realized how bad it is.

I still might dislike Threshold more though.

Hilariously my nephew, who we are watching through Star Trek TNG with, with his girlfriend, first saw Star Trek through Threshold. It tainted his view for years.

some group will find something

It's morbid curiosity to find out what when it happens. It's not just Western gamers that can be triggered either. One review bomb I saw was due to DLC being delayed in China or something. I forgot which game it was, possibly Monster Hunter World (not the initial review bomb).

(Oh, it's being review bombed again for a bad joke.)

Sheesh

the game is for sure gonna get review bombed for one reason or another

seems like all games that have a bunch of attention on their release experience that now

Review bombs usually have one specific (sometimes trivial) cause that people rally around. As far as I know this game has some bugs but nothing on the level that triggers review bombs.

As far as the game itself goes, I'll take a few launch glitches if it means the freedom open world games have. I'll have to decide for myself later if it's acceptable the way this game launched, but I often defend Bethesda and I'd do the same for CDPR. That doesn't mean I think it should not affect the score, though.

He's still working on stuff.

And that hardly discredits him from being a game developer that knows far more about the inner workings of game development that random scrubs on the internet like us.

You can sit there all day and try denying his credentials but why dont you take twenty minutes out of your day and watch the video to get the perspective of someone who actually works on games?

Either way, if it was about that for a fraction of a second it was clearly swiftly hijacked as an indoctrination cult. All it means now is brown or female characters (or God forbid LGBT people) exist in the game in any significant manner, or any of those demographics reviewed a game (or created a game) and said anything noteworthy to bash. I've been seeing the bigoted (and unsubstantiated) "they were only hired for quotas" comment more often too now, with the creeps skimming credits to show any minority hires as evidence for why *insert developer* sucks now.

Do you guys think this review retroactively justifies gamergate or similar investigations?

No.

The Polygon review is ridiculous, and it's the kind of thing the bigots latch onto to justify their stance. The thing is, the bigots and Gamergaters then strawman EVERYONE based on the few particularly obnoxious examples like the Polygon review. It became clear very quickly that the manufactured "controversy" about Gamergate had nothing to do with supposed ethics and was all about spreading sympathy for bigots and misogynists.

A good example is the (completely unjustified) often misogynistic attacks on the GameSpot reviewer. She spent a small part of her review on the issues that typically trigger the bigots but people misrepresent her review acting as if that was the majority of it, or even the significant cause of her score. Her review is actually very detailed on her thoughts, and while many may disagree with those points, the "Gamergate" types latch onto small parts, make dozens of topics (literally) on the subject, and then establish echo chambers that often of course diverge into bashing transgender people and just overall bigotry.

I've seen people who never even read the review claiming "most of it" is about "cultural appropriation," when she never says that in the entirety of the review and some of her focus is on how the lore differs from the tabletop game.

Point blank: Gamergate was a far-right recruitment drive. Sadly, it was successful. Nutty extremists like the Polygon "reviewer" give fuel to it, but they do not justify it.

If the GBA port has a better translation, that's tragic.

I'm gonna guess a collection with OoT+MM+WW maybe also TP. Also it's very likely Skyward Sword is going to get a switch port.

Also next year is Pokemon's 25th. I'm gonna guess the big thing is going to be Diamond/Pearl remakes.

Better yet, OoT, WW, and TP. They won't mention Majora's Mask exists. That seems like Nintendo of today.

I can't believe the game passed Nintendo's censors, I'll say that much. It also has one of the most disgustingly cruelly disturbing scenes of any RPG I've played. That's not criticizing the game, but man did it make me uncomfortable.

It's been too long since I played it to remember what was broken, but I don't remember it being unplayable or anything.

How do we know bisexual women exist...

Thesis: Women are attractive, so naturally even women want to get with women.

Counter-thesis: Provide an attractive man that a "straight" man finds boneable.

It's possible to have a reaction without wanting to do anything.

I'm like 90% not into women, but the occasional characters or women stand out to me. Bayonetta, Fang from Final Fantasy XIII, Merlwyb in FFXIV. Those are all characters I'd consider attractive even if I don't swing that way. (They are also examples of characters designed to be cool that I think pull it off.)

But either way, it's a spectrum and a small spark of attraction doesn't mean a desire for anything physical. With the cover of anonymity I see plenty of straight guys post as such about male characters now and then, and I guess nowadays it's probably not a big deal even without anonymity.

Who is this "they?" "The gay community" is not a single monolithic collective consciousness. I suppose I'm just arguing semantics and you probably meant "within" and not "from" though.

And yeah, intolerance exists everywhere. I once saw a rant from a gay guy about gay guys who like ABBA or who are stereotypically masculine looking but act cutesy. He was convinced both were just acts to fit into stereotypes, which is insane.

Yep, but I'm pragmatic enough I wouldn't make such a vow. People blow through winnings very quickly sometimes trying to give to everyone. I'd help out to family/friends in need, but not to the level of giving it all away. (I wouldn't waste it on insane luxury or over the top things either. I'm already happy with what I have.) If I made such a promise I'd never back out though.

TopicBlack Girl accused of CULTURAL APPROPRIATION for doing IRISH DANCING! She Hot???

I consider myself left wing and I always say I don't think cultural "appropriation" is a "problem" at all. The notion that certain people "own" cultures due to their DNA is frankly quite discriminatory.

The fanatics' insistence that "appropriation" only affects certain cultures is a joke too. Tons of cultures are featured in pop culture or are used as inspiration for fictional characters, yet only certain ones have a vocal subset of lunatics who wail and scream over "appropriation."

Too. Bad.

I couldn't care less that Japanese media uses Christian imagery for style or a cool factor, just as Greek mythology is often used in the West. Scandinavian stuff such as the inaccurate horned Viking helmets and fictional cultures based off of old Norse stereotypes are all over the place. Yet somehow something inspired by Native Americans is "appropriation?"

I also had someone say "you" didn't have your culture "appropriated." Oh please, going by the discriminatory policy of linking style and tradition to genetics, I actually have. A whole dungeon in the Xenosaga games is based on Ukrainian/Slavic mythology.

Of all the things to worry about, this is a non-issue. It filled me with glee when The Orville mocked this nonsense.

These lunatics have poisoned the word "problematic" for me. They are going to prop up the far right, and more on the left need to actively distance themselves from them. These extremists do not represent most that oppose right-wing tyranny and disregard for personal freedoms.
