... this is the perfect soapbox to be self righteous on... anonymity

On GameFAQs, I'm not sure if many people here know who each other are. Maybe I'm wrong. I've been on and off here for 21 years. There was this website where people posted their pics, but once that was shut down, I had no idea who anyone was or how they looked like. I still don't. I only know people by their username, and even then, I keep forgetting who is who.

But that's on GameFAQs. Social media has made everything more public. There are people on reddit whose identities have been well established. On twitter, there is no such thing as anonymity. Linkedin has also become more of a platform to tout self righteousness, with a touch of professional flair to it.

Point is, social media has made things less anonymous not more. On GameFAQs we may have a bit more privacy but not by much. Being the keyboard internet warrior carries risk now.

I actually remember a poster from 261 in 2008 that was known quite well to be a "good person." I put that in quotes because I'm very certain no one actually knew the person personally, and they had to go by what was posted online. I don't ever remember the poster being self righteous or braggy.

Funny thing was, the poster was a right leaning individual when the board was (and still is) largely very leaning. The poster conceded when they knew they were wrong. The poster credited certain posters when their mind was changed. The poster voted for McCain, but when Obama won and did good things, the poster would admit that their opinions of Obama was changing for the better. I use the term "they" because I forget if the person identified as a male or female. Then, one day, just like many posters on GameFAQs over the years, this poster disappeared.

I also remember a poster on LUE when LUE was public. This poster identified as a female, and I think at the time 16 or 17 years old. She loved to discuss philosophy but would concede if she was wrong, or if her logic was wrong. Once she made an insult regarding the media, and someone called her out on it. She immediately said she was wrong. It wasn't a "I'm wrong because I don't want to fight anymore." The admission that she was wrong felt genuine. I remember distinctly how people would say she was a very well respected poster. Never once did I feel she was self righteous. Then again. I didn't follow her all over the place. I just liked LUE.

Then one day, she closed her account and disappeared.

TopicAnyone watch Millie Weaver's "Shadowgate"? What are your opinions?

My friend is a huge conspiracy theorists. I'm not really big into politics other than what's the big deal on the local, regional, national and world news. So I'm not familiar with a lot of things.

My friend watched ShadowGate on YouTube and highly recommended it to me. It was taken down because it incited "hate speech" and he needed to give me an alternate site. I watched it, and I didn't feel there was anything wrong with it per se, but it sure felt like a Donald Trump puff piece. I'm the layperson. If the people the documentary interviewed are from people who have had high security clearances and know things that a normal person wouldn't know, then how would I know if any of this is the truth? I can't look up some of the stuff that's being assertive.

Millie Weaver was arrested right before the documentary was released. YouTube banning Shadowgate, and Millie Weaver being arrested has really fueled the conspiracy theorists including my friend. I told him that if the deep state exists in the capacity that Shadowgate describes, they wouldn't be so sloppy to arrest her at a time where it would draw the maximum amount of suspicion. Also, they wouldn't have taken it down only on YouTube when people can easily google an alternate site in mere seconds.

I could use additional opinions on this. Anyone watch it?

Its engine and creativity is as yet unmatched but its just boring and repetitive.

Imagine if there was mission variety or anything populating the open world.

Yes. Agreed. And I think they could have gotten a great game if they had more time.
