Octopath Traveler was also a working title.

There's a chance this sticks.

I want to be part of the crowd who says 'lol Triangle Strategy is so bad I love it,' but...well, I don't want to flat-out say that one of the reasons I haven't bothered to play the spiritual successor to my personal GOAT video game is because the name 'Octopath Traveler' makes me cringe every single time I hear / read it, but... ...I guess I don't have a follow-up to that.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I 'like' Penelo, but I simply do not understand the hatred. Vaan is admittedly awful and actively drags down nearly every scene his in, but Penelo is benign at worst, and it's hard for me to see it as much more than hatred-by-association.

Zell's a good choice, too. Come to think of it, I ended up liking the whole main party of FF 8, which might explain why I was more forgiving of the plot's missteps.

On an unrelated note, I just found out the other day that the Beatles apparently have a standing contractual clause that only their cartoon likenesses are allowed to have merchandise in the form of toys. You can't buy realistic Beatles action figures, but you can buy toys based off of the Yellow Submarine animated movie.

Well that explains why I could never find a Ringo figurine complete with red paint stains and non-detachable ring :(

Still my favorite band after all these years, I have to admit. They never really mastered any particular sound, but the breadth of their experimentation really captured my imagination at a young age and never left me feeling bored. Their influence arguably spread beyond music, too - there's a lot of proto Monty Python-style humor on display in 'Help' and 'Yellow Submarine,' and I don't think it's any coincidence that Paul and George were big fans of MP when they were just starting out.

While I perfectly understand that they're not everyone's cup of tea and wouldn't rag on someone for disliking or simply not caring about them, saying the Beatles 'suck' or are 'overrated' pretty much marks you as musically ignorant, and there's a very high chance that whichever musicians you do worship will tell you the exact same thing.

I kinda regret not having the chance to watch it in theaters. It came out during the couple years I was taking care of my grandfather 24/7, and the only movie I was able to sneak out one night and go see during that time was Guardians of the Galaxy. I do remember buying Fury Road on blu-ray during that time though, and it really helped brighten my mood.

I played a lot of the original Turok in the N64 days, but I also had access to all the cheat codes and abused the hell out of them. I don't think I ever beat Stage 3 legitimately; given the narrow repetitive landing pads you had to jump across paired with our hero's blood-curdling screams as he plummeted into the void, Turok was the poster child for how poorly traditional 2D platforming translated into 3D gameplay.

skyrim was pretty well-rushed but it seems like they're learning from their mistakes with es6. ten years and still little news so it seems to me like they're taking all the time they need for the next one.

I mean, I want to be optimistic, but contemporary Bethesda isn't even competent enough to get Creation Club releases out in the timely manner (to elaborate, they've been sitting on content that someone else created for them for over a year and still can't be arsed to put together an update to release it.) I can't bring myself to believe that ES 6's development hell is due to them really tightening down the screws to deliver a robust, well-developed and masterfully-written experience.

masterpug53
02/12/21 10:03:05 AM

Shadows of the Empire was the game that actually made me appreciate the OT's soundtrack. I'd get the tracks they used for certain stages drilled into my head, and then go rewatch ANH and ESB and think 'oh yeah, that's the track from when the Rebel fleet is approaching the Death Star,' or 'that's the track from when Boba Fett is leaving Bespin with Han.'

Great game in its own right too, really ahead of its time in a lot of ways. Tangling up AT-ATs with a cable was an amazing feeling, and if I'm remembering Jedi mode correctly, it made damage realistic for both you and the enemies (everyone could only take a couple hits before dying), something I really wish more games would implement.

And those sewer levels with those fucking dianogas did more to trigger my thalassophobia than the infamous TMNT dam level ever could.
