You buy a game you got into the hype for but for whatever reason it just doesn't stick. Either it's too hard, too complicated, too much busywork, too slow etc. So you get bored and quit.

Months or even years later you pick it up again and you get absolutely hooked and it becomes your favourite game of the year?

I can think of two examples: Hollow Knight and Divinity Original Sin 2. So glad I gave both of these another shot.

My impression of that series was that it suffered from taking itself far too seriously despite the ludicrous plot and setting.

Like maybe thats why bayonetta and DMC do so well. They know what they are.

If you haven't played this game just imagine a tower defense game, and there is a unit that can do all of the following:

• disable 4 of your towers at once for 5 seconds with NO cooldown
• Go inside its shell and become completely invulnerable
• Heals completely every time it goes in its shell
• Come out in waves of 3 or 4 at a time

It's honestly a nightmare. There are bosses throughout the game that are easier than these dudes -_-

The culture here is under incredible societal pressure from work, familial expectations, body expectations, romantic expectations, and it's incredibly competitive here.

So seeing a person you really want to root for overcome all of those obstacles is kind of like a reflection of the viewer. Like "Hey, if they can do that, there is still hope" kinda thing.

What I mean is that in many of the korean movies I've seen, there isn't a happy aspirational ending - the good guys lose.

Maybe this is just selection bias and it's just that morose films make it to western popularity, but whatever the case is, whenever I'm watching a Korean movie I just prepare myself in advance for the worst possible outcome.

It's not even enough to think, "ok, this character is cool but he's probably going to die". No, that's not how Korea rolls. It's more like, "this guy is cool. For the next 60 minutes we are going to watch him go through bankruptcy, lose a couple limbs, descend into madness, have the villain steal his wife and children and ultimately watch him never achieve the revenge that was the entire purpose of the film."

When people get all excited about pancakes I don't get it. I have a limited amount of eating space and time here and I don't want to fill it with largely tasteless cakes that you need to drown in syrup in order to be edible. I've never woken up craving pancakes. I've only gone along with other people's pancake hype. I feel exactly the same way about pancakes as I do about cupcakes. I don't fucking understand why people lose their mind over these things.

Bacon is something of a meme food where people like to say things like "there is never enough bacon" and they wrap things in bacon and have bacon on bacon and bacon and there are entire youtube channels dedicated to this meme and honestly...there really is such a thing as too much bacon and it is reasonably often. Sometimes I think "you know, this salmon eggs hollandaise was fine without the side of bacon, and now I just feel unpleasantly full". The bacon problem is compounded in the UK because of a nationwide culinary tradition where people like their bacon half cooked and rubbery.
