We're the glass capital of Indiana.

At one time we had over a dozen glass factories , now there's just one left.

And that's about it.

My current town and the one I spent my teen years were gas boom towns , where almost every building in the downtown area was built in the 1890s .

And over the past 35 years about a third of them have been demolished and nothing put in its place ; with another third empty or in need of demolition.

I went to a DQ once that was out of bananas , which should be # 3 or 4 on the list of supplies needed after ice cream , cones , then toppings or fruit mixings.

Rude Waiters/Waitresses...

Esp at iHop...I hate when they always wanna seat me next to noisy crowds/groups

I always ask for a particular waitress when I go to IHOP since my wife and I usually go the same time every week.

Servers that ignore you tick me off easily, now it's understandable when the place is packed or it's a trainee, and they're usually apologetic about their absence in those situations.

But when you get seated and noone waits on you or you go to a fast food counter and noone takes the time to say " be with you in a minute " , it best to just leave and try again another day.

I work in a manufacturing facility with multiple production lines of varying sizes .

The fewer people on the line the less problems we have.

The larger departments have more personal conflict between the employees and more absentee issues.

Not entirely unrelated , the larger lines are predominately women , while the smaller lines are heavily staffed by men.
The larger lines usually involve handling smaller components placed into larger housings where small hands are advantageous, are air conditioned, and the employees rotate hourly.
While the smaller lines are the dirtier and more monotenous machining jobs.

I'm a fan of the theory that the best makeup is when you apply it in a way that it almost looks like you're not wearing makeup at all. Accentuate what you have and cover up what needs to be hidden without being super-blatant about it, and you're going to look way better than someone who's face has tons of lipstick, blush, or eye shadow.

My house , which was built in 1916 , didn't originally have a bathroom and I still have the well right out my back door.

Refrigerators used blocks of ice keep cool as widespread electric refrigeration is still 2 decades away.

I mean the lid on when you flush stops getting germs out if nothing more.

If the splashback germs can reach the seat , they reach the lid.
And then when you sit at the next time , the base of your back usually touches the lid, unless you leave your shirt tail close to your ass when you do your business.
You raise both the seat and lid when flushing, then close both.
The lid is to keep stuff out , not germs in.

I'd prefer to live within walking distance of my work , but the 14 mile commute isn't too long.

It is boring driving these two lane Indiana state highways , where every neighboring county has at least two perpendicular highway intersections with the same gas station design and locally owned restaurant structure that look the same as the others.

It's terrifying watching idiots lane hop 4 lanes to the right in Indy , while passing multiple semis in the center lanes without seeing the other idiots doing the same entering from the on-ramp and lane hopping left. And I never see any beaters crashed along the interstate in Indy , its always the high performance or muscle cars.

It just occurred to me that this is a somewhat bad question.

Because some early games didn't have a save system of any sort.

For example, Back to the Future (NES) (Why'd I ever play that?) and Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Master System), and other early games lacked any sort of save system.

BTTF was fun , up until that ridicuously hard final level, which I beat after several profanity laced tirades .

As other have said , many games of the NES/SNES era were less than two hours long.

I loved Spiderman: Maximum Carnage , which lasted just a little over an hour.

Keep all manuals and warranty info for household appliances for the life of the appliance.

Keep all documentation of any house repairs or remodeling for as long as you live there.

Keep tax returns and bill receipts for 5 years.

Healthcare info - until you're dead.

Old books , if they're not collectable and you're not going to look at them again - donate, sell, or just give them away if you don't have space for them.

I taped my report cards inside my yearbooks.

I've had two back surgeries, one at age 18 for an L5 disc which caused a constant pain in my leg that surgery was the only relief I could find .

Then at age 43 , I had a T 12 surgery to relieve numbness.

I have to do a daily routine of stretches to keep from feeling tightness and keep my leg strength up to help provide support to my back.

Along with stretching, there are several other types of low Impact exercises and light weightlifting that can keep your muscles strong enough to help reduce the effects of bone issues.

Good quality furniture should last decades, depending on use frequency. Upholstery, padding , pillows , and matresses need periodic replacement ; but the framing should withstand all normal use.

My mother's couch is 40 years old and still in excellent condition. It is rarely used as she spends most of her time in the den.

I had a hide-a- bed couch for 20 years and sold it because we rarely used it . I have several 50 year old pieces of furniture still in good, usable condition.

How many things that we used to need the postal service for , are now done electronically?

The various forms of the phone and the computer has made postal delivered written correspondence obsolete for over 80% of Americans.

We no longer need 6 day a week delivery.

Now ,I agree that we shouldn't be closing branches except in midsized and large cities with multiple facilities that are losing population.

State governments have closed many physical structures with the changes in technology , we can adapt to reductions in postal service.

My maternal grandfather left the family before I was born and I only met him once when my cousin came home from Iraq, and I only met him because my mother asked.

My maternal grandmother never worked and my mother, aunts , and uncles took care of her for 40 + years . My cousins and I spent alot of time with her , including taking her on the Beast_Kings Island) on her 65th birthday.

My paternal grandparents divorced also before I was born and I rarely saw them . Although I saw my grandmother enough to have a good relationship with her , until she moved away from my home county.

My kids have spent a lot more time with their grandparents , moreso with the wife's parents since they live less than a mile away, whereas my mother lives 30 miles away and spent a decade during the summer 100 miles away on a lakeside property.
