I love Sonic, so even as bad as this game is I can't really bring myself to hate it. I like how it tries to actually move Shadow's character arc forward instead of just giving him amnesia so he can repeat his SA2 arc like Heroes and Shadow did, and there's even a part of me that thinks Mephiles is cool in a dumb way. I miss when Sonic tried to have these kinds of massive Earth-shaking plotlines even though it was horrible at that because there was just something so funny about concepts like persecution and nihilism being explored by furry woodland creatures.

I like the part where James McCloud's spirit leads Fox out of the exploding Andross base, it's fun to interpret that as being entirely inside his head where he's holding onto the memory of his dad to comfort himself in a crisis situation.

Yeah, "uneven" is a good way to put it. Definitely has some strong arcs and character moments, but really suffers from things like Kai Leng, Shepard's poorly-written PTSD, and the ending.

I was also conflicted about which way to vote for this character because of the final movie. Kylo is my favorite character from the new Star Wars movies and really the only one that I ever felt had the potential to be an interesting character, but unfortunately not much of that potential was ultimately actualized and the final movie went for the most boring and predictable possible approach for his arc. I think seeing a confused and dispassionate Kylo trying to lead the First Order against Rey for the last movie would've been a much more interesting general direction for that film to have gone.
