ok so, GRAND FINALE is the kind of song that Really hits me emotionally. Possibly stronger than any other vgm!! I've kind of gone into this hearing that The Devil Game was ultimately cancelled and never finished, and regardless of if that's even the case or not, I feel like GRAND FINALE somehow feels extremely fitting as a song for "a grand finale for an event that will never happen." Just the beginning, with that intense, lone chord, followed by those careless messy drums... it really evokes some sense of emptiness, sadness, that work was put into this grand event but it didn't work and things are falling apart. but then the song starts anyway. The song itself has this happy / "fighting" mood to it, but those chords in the background keep this omnipresent feeling of "bittersweet" sadness that despite putting on an active, happy (purple) face, there's something wrong going on. And with all this in mind, jeez that SCREAM (guitar) at 2:22... it just really hits some part of me, hard. This song speaks to my depressive feelings so powerfully I feel like this write up can't do it justice. trying to be happy through hard times, having overly ambitious ideas ultimately fall apart into nothing, it even sort of speaks to my past in a way, maybe it manages to kinda hit some nostalgia points for me -- at :33 it seems like it uses a sound from my favorite song from Kirby 64, (Rock Star Quicksand, I don't think this song gets much attention, especially since I think it's randomly absent from some versions of the OST?) (this later feels like it also references the Kirby 64 Ruins song with those bells at :55, which I think is a bit more popular of a track but it's still alright). And there's probably still something to say about that guitar that comes in late halfway through with that...scream, and goes on to kind of do it's own thing in the 3rd loop that I like.
GRAND FINALE is definitely one of my favorite finds from this contest.

I feel like I ought to give a write up here, except I am a little busy today oops. But here we are, Bound Together. I very much dislike most vocal singing pieces, as well as traditional instrumentations. And yet, Bound Together is my own nomination (and the only one of mine still in the contest after my other lost it's R1 match). And to make matters even more silly, I've never played Pyre either! It just manages to work extremely well on it's own, and somehow manages to make my dislikes not actually block out my enjoyment for once. I kind of like this sort of story too, hearing little snippets of different characters each going through their own issues. And I really like the "we shall find our way home" bit at the end too (I kind of like the other variants that include that with the character parts more for that reason but this "main" one still works well enough too). I really love the whole bittersweet atmosphere this whole thing has too, something which also works extremely well for me in another song in division C (I may hate "sad" but I love "bittersweet"). The way the two voices work together singing the same but with different sounds is nice too. And to be honest, I've been kind of dreading this match because the Gokinjo Battle is probably my 2nd favorite song in this 16-pack. But relistening to the two here, I definitely enjoy Bound Together more.

Oh hey, I'm a bit late to the conversation, but vocals are a bit of a thing for me as well. In that I -really- do not like them. I'm someone that tends to sometimes mishear what's being said, so I've never really been all that good at processing lyrics in music. But sometimes I feel like, whenever vocals come up in music some part of me forcibly tries to process them anyway, at the cost of being able to enjoy the music. As if parts of me that would be enjoying the music are instead forced into being used more into trying to understand what's being said. Dunno if that's actually the case, but the existence of vocals definitely block out my enjoyment of songs >99% of the time, so I essentially just want to listen to instrumental pieces.

Though another part of the thing is, a huge part of what I personally love in music is like, letting the sounds kinda bring me into another world away from this reality. So I'll love weird unnatural, electronic synth sounds over traditional orchestral instrumentations, but that's yet another case against vocals because hearing a person talk would only bring me back to earth when I'd prefer to explore elsewhere. But I still won't like songs that use heavily edited/synthesized lyrics either, so there's more to it than just that.

So I was sort of surprised with how much I loved Seraph the Traitor here...Well most of it at least. So I'm not a big fan of the instrumentation soundscape it uses but that doesn't matter as I was really into the keys it was in & a lot of weird rhythm stuff it was doing! Except, 1:39 to 2:28 it kinda completely loses it's luster for me for some reason. It's sort of annoying because the rest of the song is so great!!!

Casio Hellburst is a type of song that I sort of like how excessively repetitive it is at times. There's something I really like with how "intensely bittersweet" things sort of sound around 1:16

Both real nice songs in match 3 but rhythm changer definitely gets my vote here

kitty ! I'm pretty sure at least one of those cat's meows is some stock sound used in an old PC game I would play a lot but I don't know which one off the top of my head. Kitty song is a very "Okay" song for me, doesn't do anything wrong but I feel very little towards it either. Face Shrine has this cool, unsettling, wooden, feel to it that I appreciate. Reminds me of Lighthouse.

yay opl3 !! Obstacle is a cool , calm-playful sort of song, I really like the section that goes at :33, especially how the bass sort of works in the opposite direction of the uh *scrolls up to video* Kalimba at :40ish. Ryoshima Coast is another okay track that pushes both ends -- I'm not really a fan of the majestic orchestra sound, but the song has a few cool moments like 1:21. Obstacle is by far my favorite song today but the rest of the songs are still alright

Oh No Vocals. Well these vocals aren't completely awful to me like some can be (though they still certainly don't help), so this match is actually pretty close for me! Still gonna go with Impossible Worlds though. I love the idea of Impossible Worlds when I listen to music I want them to take me to Impossible Worlds especially ones that are way more Impossible than the Worlds painted by Impossible Worlds' soundscape but it's still a kind of neat, simple little form of surreal here. There are occasional moods where I would want to listen to Impossible Worlds and listening to it more is putting me in one of those moods but I don't think I would have moods where I'd want to play Jungle Dragon Roar song so maybe this match isn't actually that close after all

oh boy one of my nominations day. Dear dragon is a really cool song that I discovered from a totally unrelated game. I love the chaotic energy in the mixture of the three differing elements with the digital beeps, the aggressive guitar, and the playful piano. Very Fun! On the other side I briefly marked down Out of Tartarus in my support considerations late into nominations but I feel like my feelings towards the song have weakened since then, not that it stood much of a chance at getting my vote against Dear Demoncrawl (Theme of Glass) today

Man, to be honest, for the first 30 seconds of Protecta, I thought "Wow, this actually isn't that bad, I might actually kinda like this??" but then the -real- singing started and my rating of the song absolutely nose-dived into what I was expecting. Track 7 is cool and it stays cool.

Untamed heart has got some real neat digital aesthetic bits but it is ultimately waay too peaceful for me. Foregone Destruction is a song I will always associate with something silly that used the first 11 seconds of it. I wonder how my opinion of the song would change if I did not have that locked into my brain. As it is it feels a bit plain & repetitive, but the main repeating loop does still have this neat otherworldly feel to it that I will take over peace.

The Rain Formerly In the Sky. The rain song is too mellow and twelfth chapter is too not mellow. Except I like that; 12th's weird tense chaos is so neat, reality keeps flashing away into the spirit realm, good luck

Match 2 is 2 great songs but right now I'm not all that into Planet Wisp's work with it's instrumentation, something about the focus on the piano with the backing strings just doesn't work for me. Wisp is still a real fun song though, but Labyrinth Six comes out on top regardless. I Love the way that sinister deep buzz cuts through the section at 1:23. Great Labyrinth Music.

Match 3, Heartless Being is impressing me more than it normally does right now. I feel like normally I'd have ranked Labyrinth 6 over it but relistening right now I have that ranking swapped. Song definitely does a bunch of cool stuff and has a ton to say in not a lot of time. And for the 3rd day in a row, the 6th song is the least "me" song of this set. It's a shame because it uses a cool synth I don't get to hear often enough in other songs and sets a pretty cool mood so I would probably rank this song much higher if it didn't have those vocals, but, it does, so, those push it way down for me....but honestly I still kinda liked it anyway, today was just a pretty solid day overall and it probably wouldn't have been last for me in a lot of other days

So, Nefertiti, to me, is just an "okay" song -- There's nothing I really hate about it, but nothing I really like about it either. Like it's kinda cool at 3:20 but otherwise, it's just, a song, and one I wouldn't really be compelled to listen to on my own. Meanwhile the first thing is...also a song I wouldn't really be compelled to listen to on my own, but it's also a very interesting experience that I can appreciate! And I do love those atmospheric synths and sounds going on in the background. Plus, I don't really -despise- hearing Mr Bones talkin at me the way he does like I would with a lot of other vocals like a certain other song up for vote today. I can kinda tune him out if I want and passively focus on & enjoy the aspects I love. Hm I am selling myself on this song more and more...

2nd match is pretty difficult for because these songs appeal to me in two very different ways that wind up almost balancing out! RTFM 14.5's got some real neat energy with plenty going on, though I'm not feeling this instrumentation. National Park hits a very strong emotional level for me, but feels kind of weak-ish in other ways in that it doesn't really do much else for me. But it doesn't always need to.

3rd match is very easy, fav vs. least fav of today's set.
