I never really had a gaming slump for the first 25 years of my life. That was basically my only hobby.

Then around 2014, I got much higher standards for what I wanted to play, and that's when I really started a major trend of only playing the first hour or so of a game before quitting on it out of boredom.

But then 2017 happened, and I got to play Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Horizon Zero Dawn back-to-back-to-back and I was like "yeah ok, turns out they can still make some really fuckin' good games."

Except now I'm back in a big gaming slump again. The only game I've bought from this year has been Mario Golf and that was...... vastly disappointing, to say the least.

Presto 2011 is my favorite AA track overall, so easy vote today.

That said, I completely forgot how fucking good Mass Allegro is. The part starting at 0:30 is incredible.

I'd probably put AAI1 over DD in a vacuum, but DD's immediately makes me think of Marlon Rimes dancing and I smile every time.

This is easily my favorite batch of tracks we're going to have. We might have 7 of my top 10 in all of AA in here. It's absurd.

The Battle Cats - a single player fighting game with "cats" as team members, all of which have different abilities. Some gacha, but I've been playing for around a year without spending a cent and still have plenty of the best cats. Japanese game translated to English, you will know from screenshots if it appeals.

@Ringworm I watched the trailer for this and immediately thought to myself "I must try this."

Fast-forward a day and a half and I've already conquered the moon. Through the freebie Rare Cat Tickets, I got Sushi Cat and Figure-Skating Cats. I was trying to look those up, and apparently both of them are both pretty good? I looked up a video to see what the best Super Rares were and was greeted with this:


So I said alright, you know what, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this already, so let's just go all-in, and I bought both Platinum Ticket packages available to new players. I got Dark Aegis Garu, which I read is pretty underwhelming, and then Mighty Lord Gao, which is supposedly one of the best units in the entire game? So I'm pretty pumped to see what else this game has to offer.

This topic has introduced me to Powdered Toast Man, which sent me down a big ol' rabbit hole. I honestly never cared for Ren & Stimpy, but PTM is very, very stupid and funny.

Everything but the last two are good to great. Couldn't decide between Athena and Kazuma 1 for second place, because they're both great, but not very comparable.

As someone who has this game in their top 60 of all-time, I will say that Kyle Hyde is 100% the reason for that. One of the best protags ever. The cast around him is also really good, but the overarching story isn't all that outstanding, mainly for the reasons Leon said.

Then make some shots better, but make their stats worse. They did that with Luigi and Mario. I haven't unlocked their superstar clubs, so I can't attest to the point that they stay imbalanced later, but Luigi has a much better special shot than Mario, and their only stat difference in the beginning is that Mario can hit the ball 9 yards further.

This is a really weird case to me, where I really don't care if they add anyone to the game, because they didn't give any of the characters any, well....... character at all. 10 out of 17 characters currently in the game all have one of the two exact same special shots. Those 10 characters include Donkey Kong, Mario, and Bowser. How the fuck can you not think up a unique shot for those three icons?! It's unreal how much wasted potential this game has.

I've had glasses since first grade, and my eyes have become super sensitive to wind or any kind of air movement in front of my face. I tried contacts for a few months back in high school, and just walking forward gave me problems keeping my eyes open. I'm sure if I got LASIK, I would eventually adjust, and if it was free, I'd do it, but I'm not gonna spend thousands to find out, only to realize I don't like it.

The ending is also such a non-ending while also leaving several unanswered questions in a game that's supposed to be about finding answers to questions.

Sorry to turn this topic into a bunch of black bars, but I have to respond to this one, because there's a big misunderstanding here.

@pyresword The entire moral of the story is that there aren't magical answers to everything. The game centered entirely around death. It's supposed to teach you that the end is ultimately inevitable and all you can do is your best with the time you are given and make the universe a better place for others who are able to see the results.

You can get Virtue's Last Reward on any system you want. There are no significant changes for VLR or Zero Time Dilemma across platforms like there were for 999.

In the paths where Akane dies, he remembers her dying. No lies there. In the true path, Akane has explained the plan to him, so he pretends to have amnesia. So he does go back and forth like that.

........ huh. I'm amazed that it's been years removed from even thinking about this game and yet I'm still learning new things about it. I always thought it was ambiguous, but this makes a ton of sense.

Had to save this one for its own post, because it's probably 999's greatest claim to fame. Everything on the top screen is what Junpei sees, says, and is thinking. Everything on the bottom screen is what Akane sees, is thinking, and other narrations she is projecting onto Junpei's story.

Exactly. The only time she has a fever in the correct ending is before you choose the first door.

who actually killed everyone in the other endings? It could be June and Santa resetting the timeline, but I'd think they would just use that gas and not be nearly as brutal about it. So was it Ace (like when Ace goes off with Lotus in Clover's ending)?

Pretty much every death outside of the Axe ending can be attributed to Ace, yeah. For example, in the sub ending, where everyone dies, Junpei checks a few of their pulses, but not specifically his.
