It would make passing on a last name to our kids a lot easier. Unless odd kids take one of our names and even kids the other's. And don't even bring up hyphenating. If hyphenating surnames was the norm people'd be walking around with dozens, or many, many more last names. At a certain point you have to pick, so why create the situation to begin with.

This. Their motives are irrelevant. All that matters is what they did. If I was the one black student at that school (only one, seriously?) I would hold the school culpable if I was forced to learn in an environment containing those kids. Not that a student would have to be black to feel that way. As far as I'm concerned they could rightfully be expelled from the entire school district.

Nice. This is on my short list of games to buy. All of which are 2D. Though I may get Risk of Rain 2 which is 3D. But shmups, run n guns, beat em ups, 2D action are my favorite genres. 2D is where the vast majority of skill based, gameplay focused games are.

It's the nature of comedy that nothing is too inappropriate that it can't be made funny. There wasn't anything clever about his opener, but the mere suggestion that a ridiculous way of thinking is correct is about as common a comedic tool that there is. He was obviously going for that. No. It was something where you would build the frame of a skyscraper. There were different pieces, mostly beams, and you could make buildings in different shapes. Then you could put a forklift under it, and the lift would slowly rise until the building collapsd.

I have seriously never heard of any of these bands, despite the fact that most of the music I listen to is rock/pop music from the second half of the 20th century.
The Residents and Captain Beefheart are basically the quintessential avantgarde rock bands. Everybody who's even a little bit interested in experimental music will be familiar with them. Sometimes the obvious choices really are the best. Art Bears are basically an avant-prog super group. The Pop Group are an amazing post-punk band. And Foetus are just a dope industrial, new wave band, with a nice swing.

"Bad endings have to be earned." "Bad endings have to serve a purpose."

What shit. There's no reason to single out bad endings in such regard because neither bad nor good endings are default. The idea that learning a lesson means she earned a good ending is nonsense. That isn't how things work in reality and movies that simply try to create ideals that attempt to fix reality just for the sake of doing so have a meaningless purpose. "Learned her lesson." How self centered. We can learn all the lessons we want. Doesn't change the tangible consequences of our decisions.

People are morons. A movie resolves when its purpose and meaning are fully stated. I'd refer to a movie whose purpose is to coddle viewers with nothing more than the suggestion that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people, and justice and fairness prevail as childish, but I'd be insulting the intelligence of children.

I'm somewhat tempted to rant about how unartistic and meaningless it is to use happy endings for the sake of happy endings as resolution. But I haven't seen the film in so long I wouldn't be able use it as an example. But the idea of the movie being a "parable" about "bulimia" is kind of interesting and makes me want to rewatch it.

I can't believe people are acting like I said something controversial. Let me just look at records I bought in just the last month, let alone my entire collection.

P16.D4 - Khe In 1/2 Trauer
Giancarlo Toniutti - La Mutazione
Swimming Behavior of the Human Infant - Swimming Behavior of the Human Infant
Henri Chopin - Posie Sonore
Asmus Tietchens - Aus Freude Am Eland
ke Hodell - 220 Volt Buddha
Diamanda Gals - Diamanda Galas
Yeast Culture - IYS

None of those appear to be available. (The omission of Diamanda Gals' self titled seems odd considering Spotify does have many of her well known albums.) But if so much of my favorite music is missing, why would I want such a streaming service to be my primary source of music?

i'd genuinely love an answer from the people who want to "own" their media
Why did you put own in quotes? People who buy and keep records/CDs own their media.

To answer your question, I care much, much more about listening to an entire album than a single song. Yes there are occasionally songs that I want to sometimes listen to out of context of their album, but my time spent doing that doesn't even begin to compare to the time I spend listening to whole albums. I also much rather pay money for high fidelity, properly mastered copies of my music than be stuck with whatever a streaming service offers. And I already mentioned how terribly limited the selection of at least Spotify is.
