I always find it amazing that showing a racial bias or being full on racist isn't grounds auto ban you from running for a public office.

It is, or I guess it was. I still struggle with it, but it's a lot better after nearly 2 years in a public facing job where I deal with people a lot. I still can't handle crowds very well at all though, especially at work where they're all focusing on me.
