FFXIII plays so much better if you set up good battle controls. As in paradigm decks, because paradigm shifting is the primary command point. Focusing on auto-battle spam is missing the point entirely.

opopopza posted...
I'm playing through FFVII right now, about half way through. People need to be honest with themselves, VII is more linear than XIII. They aren't technically hallways, but there is still a very very set path to take. And this is the most beloved game in the franchise.
As some of the others have touched on, the problem isn't actually the linearity. The problem is the relative lack of exploration and the near complete lack of non-combat gameplay. How much that matters to someone is going to depend a lot on how they get their primary enjoyment from JRPGs. For someone like me who primarily cares about combat and story it's barely a hindrance, whereas someone who primarily plays for exploration and side content is likely to be highly displeased by FFXIII.

What is Grandia about? The collection is on Switch.
Grandia 1 is about a teen going off to become an explorer, but his explorations keep getting in the way of the plans of a large empire. Shenanigans ensue.

Grandia 2 is about a mercenary getting pulled into accompanying a religious acolyte on her quest to stop an ancient, evil force that is progressively breaking out from various seals.

Lunar SSC has a fun story and characters, great music, decent dungeons with on-map enemy indicators, and a pretty unique battle system that's sort of a mix of classic turn based and tactical combat. There's only a few battle systems that I like more (Grandia being one of them).

Data says unemployment is generally low, and (as seen in this thread already) we have numerous anecdotes from places that have already ended the bonus where these jobs are still not being filled. So no, I don't think the $300 boost is why these jobs aren't being filled, and therefore I don't think ending it will get them filled.

Once you know what you're doing you'll pretty much always win but it's pure luck whether you win 9-0 or 3-2 or 1-0. That's why it's bulls***
Also, even if you know what you're doing you can lose if the rng hates you enough. Your defense/goaltending aren't good enough to stop the Goers if they play smart, and there are three random blitzoffs (start of each half, and when Tidus subs in). If the Goers get possession on all three of those, and score every time they have possession, the best you can do is tie by scoring when you get the ball after their goal--and if they score when you don't have enough time to answer, you lose.

More seriously: when you affect something you act on it, and you produce an effect. Thus the effect comes after the affecting action (just as e is after a alphabetically).

Those are the mnemonics I used to use to help keep them straight in their common uses (at this point the knowledge is basically ingrained).

Why does Kimahri suck?
Because the natural thing to do with him is make him a worse version of someone else. If you use him right* he'll be your best character from midgame to endgame. Postgame is a different story, but character power levels for postgame work on entirely different bases than character power levels for main storyline play.

*: there are multiple L2 locks near the beginning of grids that cut into the end portion of another character's grids. Kimahri can easily take advantage of one of these to skip to endgame stat boosts and skills as soon as you gain a L2 key sphere, and from there it's very easy to bounce him around to other endgame grid areas. Holding back the other characters to cut through these locks isn't as attractive as it might be since most grids connect into grids that favor entirely different stat lines, but Kimahri has the base stats to go with any of the powerful options. I favor Rikku -> Yuna because a second character with Steal and Use adds a lot of utility while you wait to amp Kimahri's magic power and give him Holy (and thanks to Lancet, Kimahri can easily sustain Holy spam). Wakku -> Lulu and early tier 3 spells or Tidus -> Auron for massive strength and maybe early Mental/Armor Break are also great options. You can also go Lulu -> Rikku but her endgame is easily the weakest so the other choices seem better. Yuna -> Tidus for early Quick Hit is of course also awesome, but that one costs two L2 key spheres whereas the others only need one (plus a L1 key sphere).

Not a conservative, but here's why:
  • Fear tends to increase authoritarian tendencies
  • The rapid pace of change in the modern world is a source of fear for most conservatives
  • On top of that, conservative news sources like Fox News have been pushing fear-inducing narratives for decades
  • Also, since the late '70's the Republicans have been deliberately courting the largest existing organized mass of people inclined towards authoritarianism in America (evangelical Christians)

If they don't agree with the reasoning, they are free to challenge the paper with their own interpretation of whatever facts and arguments formed the basis of the paper. kimari basically isnt worth using. You can make him work if you try hard enough but hes so mediocre during the early/mid game and is the worst character in the mid/late game. Theres one time period between him unlocking some skills and another party member joining your team where you can make him shine, but he is immediately outclassed once this new party member join and is never relevant again. His Mighty Guard overdrive is his best one but its never really needed when you can just cast the relevant spells or use a different party member to get the same effect
No, if you route him correctly he'll be fine early, fade a bit in the early midgame, dominate the mid-late midgame, and remain one of your most powerful characters into endgame. Only if you carry on to postgame (or do enough grinding that you could) will he eventually be eclipsed by the others.

No it doesn't. Backing in requires pulling past the spot, and carefully backing up between parked cars. Backing out into the comparatively open lane takes half as long and doesn't create confusion around you in the lot. Backing into parking spaces serves literally no purpose and takes longer.
Backing in only takes twice as long as backing out if you're not experienced at backing in. The times are comparable for me. And yes, it can create confusion which is why I sometimes choose not to do it, depending on traffic.

But it absolutely serves a purpose. When you back in, you always have clear sight lines on where you're going and on the cross traffic, both when parking and when leaving the parking spot. When you back out you do not have clear sight lines on cross traffic. Backing in--and pulling out forward--is demonstrably safer.

Derwood posted...
And now your trunk is inaccessible because its up against another car
Eh, in my area the parking spots are big enough that I can easily leave a foot in my parking space behind me. But yes, if I'm planning to be putting something large/bulky into my trunk that's another reason I might choose not to back in that time.

We need to decrease our carbon and methane output and increase the rate of carbon capture. We may need to look at methane capture also.

Decreasing carbon output mostly means shifting to renewable and/or nuclear energy production. A full switch away from coal/gas powered plants requires an alternative way to handle baseload. That means more nuclear, or better (for the purpose) batteries, or some sort of new idea for energy production. There's a lot of research happening right now in these areas.

Carbon sequester technologies can help stabilize the current temp and could potentially reduce some of the damage we've already done. It might also serve as a solution to the battery/energy storage issues--in principle we could use energy from wind/solar to create fuels with which we can run conventional power plants for baseload purposes.

We might also need to look at more radical ideas for reducing global temperatures, such as the sun shade idea already mentioned.

What you can do is support and/or participate in these initiatives. You can also support and advocate for policies and politicians that will take action on these initiatives.

It's not a coincidence that most of the highly capable Aes Sedai we meet are ones that have spent large amounts of time away from the tower.

S-E recently did an excellent remaster for SaGa Frontier. Besides updated graphics, changes include:
  • Improved UI showing a lot more information about abilities and equipment, most notably all of the different defense ratings for armor/accessories and the damage types associated with attack abilities
  • The ability to fast forward at 2x or 3x in battles, and on the overworld, with easy controls for switching between speeds
  • Many, many many more save slots
  • Unlimited room for character recruitment
  • Various bug fixes
  • Updated translations (mostly for the better although some of the changes are questionable)
  • Autosaves on top of the normal and quick saves that the original game had
  • New Game+ with highly customizable choices for what carries over
  • Restored content that was cut from the original release AND the ability to play without this content
I don't necessarily expect the last two, but if they include most of the other features in these pixel remasters then I can see them being worth $10-$15 each.
