OudeGeuze 07/04/21 6:31:38 PM #1	text is pretty much objectively better as you can create so much more lore and world building compared to VA VA you're massively limited by budget and file size with text you dont have to worry about VA budgets and significantly less file size you can create a richer, deeper world and dialogue options without the restriction of voice recording time

I watched it all live, but Im kinda foggy in the ending again, can you sum it up for me again so I can remember fully? And what was Darlene's line? Was it ~~"Hello Elliot?"~~ Yes. The finale was the Mastermind being revealed as another one of Elliot's many personalities and whose POV we saw the most in the series. The alternate world Elliot wakes up in in 412 was simply the fake world he had created for his real self to stay in while Mastermind and Mr. Robot were taking control. Mastermind attempts to usurp the real Elliot and forever isolate him there but is unable to. Cue Mastermind waking up in the hospital and him confessing he's been in control the entire time and apologizing to Darlene for it only for her to reveal the entire time she knew it was never the real Elliot. ~~it was heartbreaking how desperately she wanted to be with her brother, especially knowing full well the past year he was being hidden away from her.~~ It also brings a ton of context to the show as a whole. Mr Robot was never fighting for control of Elliot. He was simply fighting Mastermind and trying to keep him in check and protect Elliot from him.

It felt like a weird way for him to go out but I think by that point he had served his purpose as a character. I'm not really sure else he could have gone development wise. lost his wife and his son, was about to be a dead man walking (if he wasn't already) with being the new CEO of E Corp and at the mercy of Whiterose, and I think had he continued to live he would have simply gotten killed off the same time Price did as Whiterose would easily associate him with Elliot and Darlene dismantling the Deus Group given his past actions and saying he wasn't going to be loyal to the Dark Army anyways. Tyrell was destined to die regardless of it being in the woods or via Whiterose before the series ending.

There's been several hints scattered throughout the series ~~that the Mastermind isn't actually Elliot~~ so it was great to get confirmation on that. i personally think the Mastermind was born when Darlene first comes back and he explains the hack, putting on the mask. Angela's dialogue during his morphine withdrawal in his fake mental world seemingly confirms this "you were only born a month ago" Seeing Darlene's reaction to everything in the hospital and her final line was amazing acting and it's a shame that Carly Chaikin's performance has gone so under the radar. I'll admit the first season she had little to work with but S2 onward she only got better and better.

The show didn't miss a beat once and as far as overall episode consistency goes its nearly unmatched. This, Twin Peaks The Return, Mad Men, The Wire, and Six Feet Under are easy top 5 material for me. Also, Darlene must be protected at all costs. Her character was so heartbreaking I'm that last episode with her speech about missing Elliot and wanting the real Elliot back.
