Norways Karsten Warholm world-record 400-meter hurdles run at the Tokyo Olympics failed to suffice the track star.

Warholm took issue with the type of shoe United States runner Rai Benjamin was wearing during the Olympics. Benjamin was wearing the Nike Air Zoom Dragonflys. The sneaker comes with a thick slab of Pebax foam. According to the UK Independent, the shoes are thought to add about 1-3 seconds per mile to a runners mark.

Warholm slammed the shoes as "bullshit" and alleged they affect the runners credibility, The Guardian reported.

"I dont see why you should put anything beneath a sprinting shoe," he said Wednesday. "In middle distance I can understand it because of the cushioning. If you want cushioning, you can put a mattress there. But if you put a trampoline I think its bullst, and I think it takes credibility away from our sport."

He narrowly beat Benjamin to claim the gold medal and set the new mark. He crossed the line at 45.94. Brazils Alison dos Santos won the bronze medal. Warholm beat his old mark by 0.76 seconds. He had just set the record last month.

It was Warholms first Olympics medal. He had won gold medals in the World Championships, European Championships and European Indoor Championships before taking his talents to Tokyo.

He suggested its not just the track that is helping runners sprint faster. Benjamin disagreed and credited the track with his impressive time.

"Ive always said that the perfect race doesnt exist. But this is the closest I think Ive come to a perfect race," Benjamin said.

Warholm did craft his own personal shoe with Puma and the Mercedes Formula One team but that is totally different, he said.

"Yes, we have the carbon plate. But we have tried to make it as thin as possible. Because that is the way I would like to do it. Of course technology will always be there. But I also want to keep it down to a level where we can compare results because that is important."

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe was unsure whether the track shoes will really make a major difference. Like Benjamin, Coe credited the track with the quick time and not the shoe.

"I just think we are in a world of innovation. I dont want to strangle the innovation that shoe companies our manufacturers are bringing to the table," he said, via The Scotsman. "There is a balance of course there is a balance. Weve got a system that evaluates the shoes.

"The principle Ive always tried to maintain is a level playing field and I think were going to get to the point where there isnt a massive advantage in whatever brand you wear."

the article said she's the richest female musician, and second after Oprah as far as female entertainers go:

When Robyn Fenty, known to the world as Rihanna, launched Fenty Beauty in 2017, she sought to create a cosmetics company that made women everywhere (feel) included. A perhaps unintended consequence: The beauty line has helped her enter one of the worlds most exclusive ranks: Billionaire.
Rihanna is now worth $1.7 billion, Forbes estimatesmaking her the wealthiest female musician in the world and second only to Oprah Winfrey as the richest female entertainer. But its not her music thats made her so wealthy. The bulk of her fortune (an estimated $1.4 billion) comes from the value of Fenty Beauty, of which Forbes can now confirm she owns 50%. Much of the rest lies in her stakein her lingerie company, Savage x Fenty, worth an estimated $270 million, and her earnings from her career as a chart-topping musician and actress.
While Barbados-born Rihanna isnt the only celebrity to capitalize on her social media presenceshe has 101 million followers on Instagram and 102.5 million on Twitterto build a beauty brand, she is the most successful beauty entrepreneur to do so. Fenty Beauty, which is a 50-50 joint venture with French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (run by Bernard Arnault, the worlds second-richest person), launched in 2017 with the goal of inclusivity. Its products come in a diverse range of colorsfoundation is offered in 50 shades, including harder-to-find darker shades for women of colorand are modeled in its advertising by an equally diverse group of people.

Available online and at Sephora stores, which are also owned by LVMH, the products were an instant success. By 2018, its first full calendar year, the line was bringing in more than $550 million in annual revenues, according to LVMH, beating out other celebrity-founded brands like Kylie Jenners Kylie Cosmetics, Kim Kardashian Wests KKW Beauty and Jessica Albas Honest Co.

A lot of women felt there were no lines out there that catered to their skin tone. It was light, medium, medium dark, dark, says Shannon Coyne, cofounder of consumer products consultancy Bluestock Advisors. We all know thats not reality. She was one of the first brands that came out and said, I want to speak to all of those different people.

While cosmetics sales slowed during the pandemic, beauty companies are worth as much as ever. Stocks of larger beauty conglomerates like Este Lauder and LOral have bounced back, reaching all-time highs and trading at impressive 7.5 (or more) times annual revenues. Meanwhile, independent brands like Beautycounter and Charlotte Tilbury inked deals with investment firms earlier this year at billion-dollar valuations.

That is good news for Rihanna. Thanks to the impressive multiples at which beauty companies are trading, Fenty Beauty is worth a conservative $2.8 billion, Forbes estimates. And all signs point to the company continuing to grow. In its annual report for 2020, LVMH said Fenty Skin, which launched last year, was off to a very promising start and generated unprecedented buzz, and that Fenty Beauty maintained its appeal as a premier makeup brand.

Fenty Beauty isnt Rihannas only billion-dollar brand. In February her lingerie line Savage x Fenty raised $115 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation. The company, which launched in 2018 as a joint venture with TechStyle Fashion Group, counts blue-chip investors like Jay-Zs Marcy Venture Partners and private equity firm L. Catterton (in which Bernard Arnault is an investor) as shareholders. Rihanna maintains a 30% ownership stake, Forbes estimates. The latest round of funding will reportedly be used for customer acquisition and retail expansion.

Not that everything Rihanna touches turns to gold. In February, LVMH and Rihanna confirmed in a statement to Forbes that they had shut down their other venture, a high-end fashion and accessories house also called Fenty. Launched in 2019, Fenty sought to extend Rihannas brand of inclusivity and offer styles in a range of sizes. But like many luxury fashion brands, the high-priced line suffered during the pandemic, releasing its last collection in November 2020.

The only complaint some fans may have about her career as a fashion and beauty mogul? It keeps her busy. The singer, who used to release an album almost every year, hasnt released a new album since 2016s Anti.

From a financial perspective, that may be just fine: She is creating a brand outside of herself. Its not just about Rihanna, says consultant Coyne. Even if you dont like her music, shes created a real style in the fashion and beauty space.

iirc, it's a cultural thing, where in some communities, sports and/or entertainment are seen as being legitimate forms of success, so you see a lot of young people working towards that goal from a very young age.

like, there are successful black people in all types of positions, but if you're from a lower income area, it's not often you might come across a black lawyer, doctor, engineer, etc.
