Yikes. I had no idea how rampant the racism there was. Echo Park seems like first on my list then. How about Costa Mesa? There are tons of Japanese/Korean marts nearby if I can recall correctly and there's an international language school nearby. Did that change as well?
Irvine had a lot of international students living there as well. I remember going to the internet cafe near the bale after Uni on campus ave.

Everywhere I went I'd be surrounded by fobs from the motherland. I don't drive as well so I'll mostly be walking or catching Uber. My plan was to live there for a year, gain some inspiration from remembering fond memories there (maybe find a gf), then go back to Seattle for work.

In your opinion, where would be the best place to move to experience that "k-drama" soap opera life style? Students socializing at cafe's wearing their oversized hoodies while talking about their future admirations and goals. Going on a date getting pinkberry or spending weekends with your "hyungs" getting trashed talking about your ex-loves. It was a very innocent time in my life. I just want to re-live it again.
Thanks for your insight btw. Appreciate your help.

All I know about Costa Mesa is that it was the exit before mine in Newport Beach. IIRC OC Fairgrounds are there, which is nice.

Look into Torrance or Gardena in L.A. County. Very chill, large Asian communities (mostly Japanese) and no real racist vibes. Very mixed community. Torrance can be pricey though.

I don't mean to put down the OC entirely, but it's a different animal than the rest of SoCal racially. The further south you go, the more likely the racist stuff happens.

Sounds like you like the student, "bohemian" vibe though. Look into a college town in the OC like Irvine or Fullerton.

Good luck.

Echo Park is gentrifying heavily. Highland Park too. If you move there, be sure to ask about parking as your first or second question.

OC was - in my GenX lifetime- very racist. Everything south of Long Beach was "behind the Orange Curtain". Skinheads, Nazis were rampant.

It's gotten better. I lived in Newport Beach from 2002-2003. But it still has a "feel" to it.

When the Chargers moved from San Diego to L.A., many players looked to move to the OC, close to their training facility. Despite putting up several months to a years worth of rent money up front, black players were denied at the last minute when they showed up in person over bullshit reasons - "oh a dog?" "oh kids?". White players didn't have that problem.

College campuses are generally pretty liberal, so unless you work at UCI, don't go by that. By Midwestern or Southern standards, the OC is liberal but the shit that goes on sometimes shouldn't happen in California.

The beaches are nice though.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/one-in-half-a-million-girl-born-in-israel-with-twin-inside-her-stomach/

A baby girl was born in Israel with an embryo inside her stomach, in an extreme medical rarity that astounded doctors.

The girl was born earlier this month at Assuta Medical Center in Ashdod, the hospital said Tuesday.
Cases of fetus-in-fetu occur only about once in every 500,000 births.

Checks and ultrasounds in the late stages of the pregnancy had already identified that the girls stomach was enlarged, and following her natural birth doctors carefully examined her and confirmed that there was something inside the newborn.

She was immediately given a battery of further examinations including ultrasounds and an X-ray.

We were surprised to discover that it was an embryo, Omer Globus, director of neonatology at Assuta, said.
A team of the medical centers top experts carried out the operation, eventually removing two similar sacs from the girls stomach.

We think that there was more than one there, and we are still checking that, he said.

Globus stressed that the remains were not a fully formed embryo, but rather an embryo that only partially developed. Doctors were able to see some bones and a heart, he said.

But it did not look like an embryo as you imagine it, he said.

The operation was successful and the girl is expected to make a full recovery, Globus said. Both the girl and her mother, who has three other children, have already been sent home.

Globus said there are a number of theories as to how such cases occur, with one being that the pregnancy starts off as twins but then one of the embryos is absorbed by the other.

It happens as part of the fetal development process when there are cavities that close during development and one of the embryos enters such a space, he said. The fetus inside partially develops but does not live and remains there.

Don't get a K&N filter. They are two to three times the price of a regular filter and you have to take it out, clean it, then spray it with a 'special' spray you also have to buy. Its way cheaper and easier to change out a regular filter. Both the engine and cabin filter will take you ten minutes to change out
Over the life of the car, the K&N is cheaper.

I'm one of those people who is a mosquitoe-magnet and I wish I had the availability to erase every single one of them, environmental consequences be damned.
I went to grad school in New England and was a magnet. Couldn't figure it out.

One night, after a cookout of about 30 where I was constantly swatting mosquitos and went home with about 15 bites. No one else reported anything. I asked an entomologist grad school friend WTF is going on.

I was told that bugs are attracted to people by a combination of respiration and perspiration (breathing and sweating). Some people have more of the "it" factor than others. Plus, booze, citrusy fragrances (or drinks) are enhancers.

As a grad student, I drank a lot - especially Corona with lime - plus being from the West Coast, I sweat a lot in the humidity of the short month and a half New England summer.

I was a sitting duck. Even caught West Nile.
