Regardless, you're entitled to your personal opinion on TTG but why then do you think that the creators involved should feel worried about it or the characters represented in it when the show is very clearly popular and successful? It being successful is fine if they bothered to give the original series a proper canon ending (Trouble In Tokyo is, as far as I know, not canon.)
